  • So far so good

I decided to use this app because of the incredible amount of reviews that the app had, 4K at the time of this review, and it’s high rating. Thinking this must be a good indication of its quality. Interestingly this number is most likely attributed to the app requiring you to rate it after completing the first lesson in the course, otherwise you must pay for the app. It’s a very clever way of getting reviews for your product and I commend the marketing teams use of strategy. So it seems that the 4K in reviews is mostly to do with the people like me who just want free stuff! 😊 Never the less the app is straightforward and intuitive and I like the user friendly environment that is used to help teach you swift. Maybe I’ll come back and write an update to this once I’ve completed all the lessons to make sure all these reviews don’t just consist of people who have completed just the first lesson.

  • Pretty Good!

I don't do coding and I'm curious about basics so I found this app and heard it was good. Gives you 20 lessons for free about the very basics of consonants & variables and how to type everything in! I think it's pretty great since they also allow you to type everything in and even provide a video if you're stuck on how to proceed with the coding! Keep in mind the other lessons you gotta pay for either individually or you can pay for them as a whole. Regardless, this is a pretty good app.

  • Hands-on exercises, unlike Mimo

Great app! The in-app purchase is absolutely worth it. The lessons are hands on. You actually get to type in your answers character by character, which greatly improves retention of information, unlike Mimo where you forget everything.

Two suggestions for the developer. 1) The “Stuck? Press here to get help” shows up waaay too fast. I don’t even have time to finish reading the prompt most of the time. 2) every now and then add a much more open-ended exercise for us to synthesize what we’ve learned. You don’t have to figure out a fancy checking mechanism to check our work. Maybe just have it check the final output. But please add this, as it will dramatically improve our retention of the material.

  • Only One Course!😡

I downloaded this app because I was very interested in learning this language! On the pictures in the App Store, I saw many, many courses to complete! I blew through the first course and was ready to learn the next part only to find that you either had to rate the app, or pay $1.99 to unlock course two. I hope to continue coding after writing this review, but I don’t think I will be able to do the next one since I have already rated the app. It is a great app and it really helps you learn quickly! If you are alright with paying for more lessons, the. This is an amazing app.

  • Great app with hands on coding!

I’ve been using a few different apps to learn coding, and I’ve had this downloaded for a while. I just barely started learning and I really like this one out of all of them so far. The color coding does help a lot and it actually being extremely hands on to stumble my way through. The hints are nice too! Thank you for this app!

  • Super Easy and Fun Way to Learn

This app makes it incredibly easy to learn coding by breaking everything down step by step and having you write in the coding for yourself. If you miss or capitalize or mess any little thing up it will let you know immediately so you know exactly what to fix to make the correct coding. If everything was taught this way learning would be much easier and effective.

  • Good so far

Apple needs to program the write a review pop ups until people have been able to thoroughly get an understanding of apps. Core loops of most apps allow for people to gain a ton of content therefore almost forcing people to give great reviews before actually learning more about the software. 4 stars for now, until I’m able to get further into how well the app actually is OR I come across some content gate.

  • 1 Major Flaw

I’m using this on an iPad Pro and on the very first exercise hit a wall. When typing a double-quote it is entered as “curly” quotes rather than the straight “inch mark” quotes, and the app doesn’t recognize them as correct. I could not find a way to enter straight quotes, so had to copy one from a website, then paste it *every time* quotes are needed (frequently). This is frustrating and *very* unnecessary. The app should automatically convert them.

If not for that bug this would be a 5 star app. The content starts at a very basic level, but it’s a good way to review after having not used Swift for quite some time. I plan to purchase the remaining chapters. $5 is on the high end for the amount of content, but seems fair enough.

One other annoyance is that the “Run” and “Next” buttons appear underneath the type-ahead bar that displays automatically when a Bluetooth keyboard is used, which requires an extra tap after every text entry.

    Developer Response

Thanks for your feedback. Please be sure to check out our latest update. - We fixed the bugs with the "quotes" - We keep adding new content on a monthly basis If you need anything else, please send us an email at support@happymooseapps.com. Thanks, Mike PS: We still need to fix the bug with the bluetooth keyboard. As a workaround, you can already press on the green checkmark which is visible (instead of the run button).
  • Progress held hostage by compulsory rating

The lessons on the app itself are easy to understand and useful for an foundational understanding of coding in SWIFT. However, the developers have seen to it to hold the content of this app hostage by requiring that users submit their review of this app after only one section - hardly enough time or engagement to develop an appreciation for the functionality of this app with any measurable depth. Without having the chance to interact with this app beyond the first section, I can only give it a neutral 3-stars (average user experience at best).

  • Forcedvto review, I think.

So far this app Is good. I need more time to make an honest review. So I just thought one day that I don’t want to die without knowing what in the world is going on with coding and computer science. I am a history teacher and an art person so computer science isn’t really my thing but I really want to learn about it. I have NO knowledge on this, but I do learn things pretty quick. The tutorials don’t let you fail or get totally stuck so that’s nice.
