  • About the best Wiktionary app there is

With multilingual support (only shows the section of that language) and offline dictionary, this is a lifesaver for me as I live in China and can't access Wiktionary without a VPN.

    Feature requests:

    1) for Russian and Ukrainian, showing the verbal aspect would be great (whether the verb is perfective/imperfective, and even better if the counterpart is also shown). This is important because the aspect determines the meaning of the verb, e.g. whether it's "I'm doing" or "I'll do".

    2) for Russian, Ukrainian, Latin, and maybe some other synthetic languages, it would be nice to show the inflection table (conjugation/declension). This might not be needed for agglutinative languages like Korean or Turkish, where the inflections are almost all regular. But in synthetic languages words often have irregular forms. Alternatively, it would suffice to show the basic grammatical forms/notes listed on Wiktionary next to the entry form (such as for Lat. "habeo", habere, habui, habutum, 2nd conjugation, or for Lat. "corpus", corporis, 3rd declension) -- a good substitution if tables would be unwieldy to display/implement.

  • Incredible app

As a linguist, I love Wiktionary and use it daily. Having this offline, simple, version with only the languages I use is amazing. I never write reviews, but I really adore this app.

If I could suggest two things, I would love for Hebrew to be added, as well as the conjugation/decision for verbs and nouns to be shown. I’m not sure if this would be possible, but it would also be nice to provide the Wiktionary audio recordings that are sometimes available instead of the text to speech that is provided in the app. Besides that, it’s a great app. With those additions, I’d never visit the web version of Wiktionary again. Thank you for creating this!

  • etymologies!

A dictionary with etymologies is always something to cherish and be thankful for. A multilingual dictionary with etymologies is truly a gift for which I’m thankful. Are there any plans to add Japanese? It would be great if it would be added at some point, along with Chinese, given the overlap in chinese derived vocabulary shared with already incorporated Korean and Vietnamese.

  • cool app

very nice app with beautifully designed UI, would love to see more languages such as Chinese, Japanese, Arabic
  • Crippling bug

I'd be willing to give it 5 stars but I've encountered a crippling bug where I can't download a dictionary unless I have far more free space than the dictionary's file size. Couldn't even download Euskara without 1 gigabyte free, and I can't download English with 1.4 gigs.

    Developer Response

Thanks for your comment, I’ll look into it. This seems to affect devices with a very large storage capacity.
  • Best suomi dictionary !

    Very useful!
I hope there will be more languages soon

    Developer Response

Thanks for the review. Please let me know which languages you'd like to see next.
  • Best dictionary for Esperanto

The fact that Esperanto is in here is amazing. It is honestly the best dictionary on the App Store for it!

It does a great job of matching words with Esperanto specific characters without needing to switch to an Esperanto keyboard which I love.

The one annoyance I have is that I wish I could specify what language I want to search in when I’m searching a word that is valid (in whole or in part) in both English and Esperanto (for example, “bar” brings up so many results that it’s impossible to find what I’m looking for). So being able to toggle something would be nice, but it doesn’t get in the way that often.

Dankon pro la recenzo! I'll see if I can find a good solution to fix the language search without complicating the UI.
  • Nice project idea! Hope to see more languages in the future.

One dictionary I would be interested in having on here would be Lithuanian.

    Developer Response

    Ok, noted!
  • Your project is amazing

Your project is amazing don’t be unmotivated because of the success of the other futile apps and games .
Thank you very much for your wonderful efforts, adding the Russian transliteration is just absolutely great, very few people would have thought about doing you’ve accomplished, the app is very neat, and the offline use is indispensable, I would really appreciate if you can add Persian, as it’s much less researched and less resourced than the other languages, that’s besides me being already engaged in Iranian languages research as it can offer a great deal of benefit to the Indo-European languages in general.
    Again, Thank you very much!

Thanks for the review, I'll have a look at adding Persian. I like the idea of supporting less resourced languages in general.
  • Good app but needs gender

It’s a good app, but why not provide the gender of nouns (Russian)?

    Coming soon!
