    The app is not the best and it is difficult to see exactly what the levels of insurance cover when booking. In order to see what is covered you have to search the whole site. Along with all other car hire companies Goldcar will attempt to identify and claim for damage after the car is dropped off leaving you with little redress and it is important to ensure you take the full insurance. I tried ‘key and go’ on one occasion but the app didn’t work on my phone. Collection could be quicker if details of returning customers who have already provided information were available. However, with the exception of being charged for not taking the car back with a full tank of fuel when it had been filled up 7km from the airport I have found Goldcar to be ok and certainly on a par with other car hire companies.

  • Read it in full and you’ll be ok.

    I have used Goldcar for absolute years, 8+ and I continue to use them based on my average experience. Read the small print and research what you are actually getting and you’ll be ok. If you are a novice overseas car hirer, google and be prepared. There are hidden extra’s (such as a ‘tax’ for a diesel car, even if you didn’t order a diesel car!) but the deal is still a very good one, and if you’re smart and take out car hire insurance in your home country for the year, you’ll save even more money and still be covered for everything. Always choose full/full for that little extra in cost, you’ll avoid a ‘filling’ charge and inflated fuel costs when picking up the car (deposit required - on a Card, but refunded or not even taken sometimes) The Cars are in good shape, staff are usually very nice and if you have any trouble - Twitter and FB is the best way to get their attention. Don’t be bullied, and if you are unsure about anything ask and ask again, make sure you read the contract before leaving window to see if anything has been added without your knowledge and ‘hidden’ in the ‘deposit!’
    Thankfully the App is much improved and works smoother now.

  • Easy to use.

    I’ve used Goldcar a lot over the last two years as we visit the Costa del Sol regularly.
    I’d recommend them and the app.
    Tips;
    Always pay the €9.99 extra for unlimited kms as it’s a pain having to watch your kms so that you don’t go over.
    Always pay the flex fuel because on the day you’re heading home, the last thing you’ll want to do is find a petrol station near the drop off point to fill up the car.
    As with all these companies check your credit card statement after a rental, we’ve fallen foul of paying twice by accident and they (like all of them) will leave it up to you to question this.
    Also, be really picky about damage when you collect your car as a missed scratch will be charged to you even if you didn’t do it. Though this is hardly unique to Goldcar.
    All in all a fuss free, cheap rental in mainly very good cars.

  • Deceiving design

    The design is simple and good to navigate.
    Design semiotics are wrong or purposefully used to deceive the consumers into hiding costs - use grey crosses to highlight items not in contract that people have to pay for.
    The purchase process should be the other way around (like Easy Jet) as you add items to pay as you go, if you want to; not the other way around: as they preselect the Flex Fuel per default and this means you need to pay an average of €25/30 not to bring the deposit full. There's no pop window explaining this when buying. Hidden costs and purchase procesz built to deceive consumer.
    Shame because the design is simple and actually pleasant to navigate.

  • Read the contract, before you book,, it’s all there in black and white

    Please use another company if your a complete moron who can’t read a contract, That will mean I don’t have to stand behind a load of clowns arguing about a deposit. Dont use a debit card and they won’t take the money.

    I have now tried key and go, no more waiting.

    This app kinda works. I am glad I took photos of my contract number online as I could not find within the app.

    There were some questions. I booked a d grade manual, When I got my confirmation it said I ordered a c grade auto. They probably work out at the same cost but not really happy with the car I got,(fiat 500xl) which was a manual. So don’t really know what to say.

    Key and go very good.

    No birthday points this year, Why not?

    And I still can’t use my welcome bonus!

  • Bad UX

    This app is full of bugs and to me it represents probably the worst rental experience you could get on a mobile app.

    It’s sad to see that companies cannot manage to build a simple app that is intuitive and easy to use.
