Excellent supplement for memorizing the kana
Prior to finding this app I spent a few weeks learning Hiragana using the YouTube video by "JapanesePod101". I could recall the characters okay but really needed to improve the speed to help with forming words and reading.
This app worked very well for me and was money well spent. After a couple more weeks of intermittent use I can easily recall all of the Hiragana monograms, diacritics and digraphs. The app is fun to use, like playing a game. Thanks for this excellent learning tool!Show lessネイトです
Cute but not good for beginners
You have to pay extra to slow the flash cards down. I’m a beginner trying to learn and it flips through the cards too fast for me to learn anything before marking me “wrong” for not choosing quickly enoughusachan77
Great Interface, great for beginners!!
I’ve had a fun time practicing hiragana and katakana with this app! I don’t really understand the revise the kana section. What is its purpose?? Besides that though, this has been a beautiful way to reinforce my memory of the characters. So grateful for aesthetically pleasing apps like this one!Yondariah
Useful app for beginners
I definitely recommend this app for beginners who are trying to learn the first steps of the Japanese language, especially for those who are looking for free apps to practice with. App is simple and easy to understand. I love that I can control my quizzes. In the settings menu, I can select the line of new characters I’d like to practice on or practice just with the characters I have most difficulty remembering. App also provides a chart of Hiragana and Katakana characters as a reference. The only down fall most people would probably dislike is the 60sec time limit with each character during the quizzes. Sometimes I wish there was an option for a longer time limit but that’s where purchasing upgrades of this app traps you. In a way, the limited time limit is helpful because it challenges your memory. In that case, I give it 5 stars. Overall, it’s a great app. Moving forward, I might just purchase the full version in the future.Show lessZCKO26!
I really want to use it
This is a beautiful app. It focuses on learning hiragana and katakana. It avoids fluff and is well designed. I would use this exclusively and have no problem paying to unlock the rest of the features if it weren’t for one thing. Each character is only displayed for two to three seconds. Once that time is up, the character is gone. You can’t study where you went wrong, which is a problem for many similar characters. Consider these three characters: われね. You have no hope of learning them when they just flash for a couple seconds. If this app gave the ability to extend the time that each character is shown it would make all the difference. For beginners it would be nice to disable it entirely, only moving on once you’ve made a choice. Unfortunately with the app how it is, I can only see this being helpful for people who know these characters fairly well. I’m also discouraged to see other reviews mentioning the same problem and yet the app hasn’t been updated in 7 months. I hope the developer takes note and fixes this. Fantastic app!
This app is good looking, fun, and customizable. I was compelled to buy the full version after just a couple of rounds! This is worth every penny! It transforms the learning experience into a fun game! You can choose between matching the kana to the sound or sound to the kana. If I could give more than 5 stars I would!Show lesscjroits

the colors of this app are really cute! i also think it's super helpful for reviewing, although i've only gotten about halfway through the hiragana so far. the only suggestion i have is to add the diacritics and their sounds to the "revise the kana" page.👽👽sofia👽👽

I was so happy with the app that I even paid for the extra feature. But I didn't get the features even though it took my $4.99.mcfuneral

Finally found what I was looking for in this app after trying a few others. Just pure kana drilling with a brutally short timer and audio cues. A bit expensive for what it is, but the free version is sufficient to get a good base if you know the rules already. My only request would be to please add audio only cues. Thatd be interesting. Also it'd be cool if there was a drawing mode but I understand thats a hard engineering problem to solveShow lessBiz__
