  • A work of pure art

I hardly ever write reviews for any app. But this game is worthy of every accolade and praise it has received and will receive. I played the full game in one sitting (which I recommend if you have the time), and it was a well thought out, beautifully designed masterpiece. The story, the twists, the puzzles and narrative of existence and life, and what’s it means to feel....it’s not just a game you can enjoy for entertainment alone. This is something that can leave everyone who plays it with a refreshed sense of awe at its beauty and deeper meaning. Please play this game. I promise, you will enjoy every second of it.

  • Definitely adding this to my favorites

This game was absolutely astonishing. I was scouting the App Store looking for a new app and stumbled upon Able Black. I thought I’d try it out, it was free after all so no harm in that. After sinking some odd hours into this I have to say I’m definitely impressed. For such a simple game my mind had been blown. I’m not a huge fan of the text adventure genre as a whole, but this game might have changed my mind. The story is one of a kind and send many you on a journey where it’s time you turn a corner there is another surprise waiting for you. At this point my only complaint would be that there isn’t enough. I want more. It’s just so good. And I love the addition of the Easter eggs! The puzzles were very challenging at times and it felt like I needed to wrap my brain around them. So thank you Skot for an amazing journey into this astonishing world of Mother.

  • Absolutely outstanding

I throughly enjoyed the experience as it feels so surreal and touching. However, one thing I really hope the developers consider adding to the game is that there should be some sort of buttons or arrows that allow players to run forward or backward in a word/number puzzle. Take the poem puzzle for instance, if I accidentally clicked past my chosen letter, I have to cycle through the alphabet again by clicking the letter 25 times, which is kind of time-consuming. Other than that, this is a masterpiece and I hope we will get to see more of this in the future. A deep appreciation to the developers of the game.

  • Great game but it needs more.

It only took me maybe an hour to beat the entire game which is sorta sad. It was a great game and it could really kick off and have more to it but it just abruptly ended and that kinda sucked. The test, the writing, everything about it was amazing, don't get me wrong. But it was so short and the ended was just awful. It needs to be longer, it needs to have an actual story. It's just a big cliffhanger of "well now what?" If you're looking for something to occupy you for an hour or two then this is it but until then it's just okay. Add more to it and you'll definitely have a better app/game.

  • Great story and challenging puzzles

I throughly enjoyed this game. The storyline was reminiscent of Portal, with an all-seeing AI who puts you through tests but is constantly unclear if it’s there to help you or hurt you. Unlike Portal, the storyline takes a lot of stress on your moral compass, and I have a feeling I will be reminded of the questions and trials here for a long time to come. The puzzles were challenging, and there were a couple that even with all of the hints, I still had to look up the answers to, because I was so close to the answer, but just out of reach of it. I highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys a good story and a few fun puzzles along the way.

  • I Stayed Up for Hours Playing This Because I Couldn’t Stop

I can not describe how much I love this game. I went into it expecting it to be a normal puzzle-solving scenario, but I was met with in-depth thinking, deep storyline, and secrets to be discovered. Not only that, but it really made me ponder what it actually means to be human. Certain parts of this game nearly made me cry. Furthermore, the little secrets you can explore after finishing the initial game are really intriguing. This game tops so many others, and I would be very excited to see more like this in the future, created by you, Skot. I can’t fathom how you were ever able to do this all on your own. You’re extremely talented, and I applaud you!

  • Fun, short, story based puzzle game

As the title says, this is a fun little puzzle with an associated story. Pretty classic style puzzles, and the atmosphere (art style, music, ambiance) is enjoyable. I wish it were a little longer, or that there were a second, however it is certainly fun for what it is. Don’t expect too much more after the “thank you” page (ie, there aren’t more levels like in the main storyline) but there is some more stuff you can unlock.

Sometimes if you’re not getting a puzzle and are impatient enough to take a hint, the hints aren’t helpful. I had three hints in a row for a portion of the puzzle I had figured out, but didn’t get how to translate what I figured out into the answer.

I’d be interested in the storyline, or something about the dialogue, changing a bit based on your answers in the non-puzzle parts of the test, but I don’t mind it for what it is.

Definitely want to see more from this dev!

  • Fresh

I get so tired of the same old thing...games that are just a slightly different version of their predecessors; tap-tap crap, pixel this, pixel that...you get the picture. I mean, those games are fun, but at some point they get boring. Do we really need another Temple run, or Clumsy Ninja, or Candy Crush? Slogging thru the unending clones is a drag. But once in awhile, you stumble upon a real gem such as this! There are many unique and truly wonderful games hiding amongst the rabble if you can find them. They always seem a bit short, but the relief of playing something that stands above all the rest is the payoff. This game will satisfy your craving for something new. Get it. Savor it. It’ll be worth it.

  • I LOVED it!!!

This is a great game. I liked the aesthetic, the interface, the story, and the puzzles, which were difficult. Too many puzzle games feature easy puzzles or puzzles that require you to tap all over the screen until you get something to move. These puzzles were challenging and required creative thinking and imagination. I was determined to solve all of them without using any hints, and I did, but because of that it took me several days to finish it (not straight through; if I got stuck on a puzzle, I put the game down and picked it up later in the day or evening to give it a look again). This is exactly the kind of game that I love, so I hope that there will be more from this game designer! But very, very well done on this one!

  • Great game

But I cannot get past this one puzzle, even though I tried an answer, then the hints all pointed to that answer, yet it still doesn't work. I'll update to 5 stars if I find out that the hints were actually pointing to a different, but similar, answer, or if this bug gets fixed.

(it's the spider puzzle with the key rhyme)

Also, part of the -1 is due to lack of app support.* I don't use twitter, and there is no other option available to me besides an app store review.

    --Edit--
    * -1 revoked, app support has arrived!

I got past that puzzle (and finished the game), and it was as I suspected. The "correct" answer wasn't being accepted, but waiting a little while for it to change somehow fixed it. Maybe I had overlooked something, but either way, I got past it with a bit of patience.

All in all, a great game. It's sort of strange, a bit of a psychological experiment, and is more of a story than a game, but it was a very nice experience. Thanks for that, Skot.
