Very usable work in progress with great potential

After almost a year using Shapr3D I’m impressed. It is faster than anything else by several orders of magnitude despite its short comings. The core is very solid and they are starting to add more advanced functions. For example an array command is on the way. But you can accomplish the same thing in a manual way. So not having array wont stop you. Also, you can import models from McMaster-Carr for fasteners and other stuff which can speed your creation. It is a modeling program for designers and engineers. It will also export to standard format for use with AutoCad and Solidworks. And if you are a student or work in education it is free. I gave it 4 stars because it is not yet a mature program, but it will get there. I’m excited about the progress that will be made over this next year.

Great program, best for iPad Pro. BUT

This is an awesome program but alas for the hobbyist it is a waste of time or money. It is a delight to use but the free version is pointless for the hobbyist as the quality you can print at is not good enough. Circles become polygons, try printing a drum! How about a stand-alone version for hobbyists. We would pay good coin for the program but renting is simply not an option. There is a market out there thirsty for a good app.

We are sorry to hear that you had issues with the app. We are always happy to help you, and we would love to learn more about your experience with Shapr3D. Please get in touch with us in email support@shapr3d.com or on our forum: discourse.shapr3d.com

Great 3D app

As a pro cad user on Mac and pc this is a very clever and intuitive app, thumbs up to the developers who built this. I’m only a few days in and keen to learn more but interested to see if I could build this into my workflow. Cad tends to require many hours say in front of a large screen, iPads tend to be on the go, short burst and bad posture. The pricing still sits at £30pcm which does feel pricey. I understand development of apps like these are very costly but monthly payments for apps is starting to annoy me and eventually just ends up being expensive.

This would would make a superb desktop app and with workflow between them you’d kill the market! If it stays iPad only I wouldn’t give up my day tools just yet.

Well done though guys. Amazing job.

It’s great

Love the tutorial that comes with it. Super easy to use, great software!❤️❤️

Should be called ‘limited trial version’

This is a really well-thought out 3D app for iPad. It makes intelligent use of the Apple Pencil. It’s easy to use, and has a relatively flat learning curve, with a robust help system.

Having said that, the Free version is nothing more than a come-on to get you to subscribe to a very expensive paid version. How expensive? Currently, I pay in the vicinity of $50/month for everything that Adobe makes: Photoshop, Illustrator, AfterEffects, Premiere Pro, et all. These guys want $30/month (or $20/month, paid yearly, in advance) for ONE APP. Explain the value proposition to me on that. Preferably without holding a gun to my head.

It’s a pity. I don’t need 3D often, but when I do need it, I NEED it. If these guys would offer, say, a metered version that would let you use all the essential features for X# of models per month, I might bite. Or even a purchase price, saving you from the nickel-and-diming you to death of a subscription model. But at $30/month, I’ll have to take my 3D projects elsewhere and bite the bullet to use a product that isn’t quite as easy - but far easier on the pocketbook.

Amazing

I can’t even say how easy and intuitive this app is to use. There’s a... maybe 3 minute tutorial and you’re off. Some things you have to experiment with to figure out, and, after 1 hour, I’ve not mastered everything, but it’s amazingly easy to use. And free!

By far the easiest mechanical design CAD to learn and use for non-experts.

At 10% of cost of the next lowest professional CAD I found this tool to be most intuitive and easiest to learn and use. Their on-demand tutorials is next to none.
I don’t use design CAD tools often enough and forget how to use certain functions. This is where this tool shines where an animated demonstration magically shows how that function works and in 30 seconds I am up and running again. I like to call this “lean learning”. No videos of some expert telling a long story. All other CAD tools require digging in through hrs of video and google search listening to experts hoping they eventually answer your questions and taking so long you may decide it is too hard and time consuming. My hats off to the designer.

It’s a very badly designed app

Hi I’m having a problem with this app!
Why can you only use on iPad Pro!?

Response from developer

Hi - We have designed Shapr3D specifically around the precise pencil, touch interaction. Without this, it would loose the reason it stands out. And now that the new iPad is out that supports Apple Pencil you don't need an iPad Pro, just an iPad that supports Apple Pencil.

Still learning

Massive jump in functionality with this version. So much better to use. Still learning how to use it but latest changes add more logical selection options (to me anyway). Would like to see a better pricing model than currently. Just too expensive to upgrade for occasional use. But some sort of Advanced/intermediate pricing model with the ability to import/export .stl files would be attractive. Not a fan of annual fees, but the ability to purchase certain functionality may also work as long as we as the customer get to pick and choose our options. Love the ability to do this on the IPad which is now my primary computer.

Thanks for the feedback. We plan to create more tutorials in the future too. You can find the current ones in the app and on the website as well: https://shapr3d.com/design-school/ Regarding the prices: Our pricing might be high to some, but still more affordable than most CAD tools. A little insight into the industry: While other desktop solutions can cost up to thousands of dollars a year, we offer our CAD software for $149 / year. We think that's very competitive. We have created the app for professional in the first place who'd use the app for their daily work. But we know that there are others as well who might be interested. So to help students and educators, we have created an educational program, where they can get the PRO version of the app for free as long as they are enrolled in any educational institution. If someone is only a (3D printing) hobbyist, they can use Shapr3D without paying for a PRO plan as there is an STL exporting possibility for 3D printing. We think that is a fair exchange. We provide the full PRO version to students and educators for free and 3D printing possibilities without paying for the app. It's good and free for 3D printing, concept design. And we ask for a competitive price (third what Fusion is) from those who use the app for professional, daily work. We believe this is a fair value proposition on our end. Hope more and more people will agree with us in the long run. :)
