Best Japanese Learnjng App EVER!
I can’t say enough good things about this app. It constantly amazes me. The team that put this app together has done a tremendous amount of work and continues to do so every day just for you. It might not be approachable if you are an outright beginner. But if you are a lower intermediate and above, then you can really make great use of the news articles.
You can turn on and off the furigana to test yourself when reading kanji. All of the words can be looked up almost instantly. What is even better, is that you can add these words to your flashcard favourites and learn them in your own time. Not only that, but you can listen to the article after you’ve read it so that you can evaluate your listening comprehension. $50 for a lifetime membership is a steal!! My previous review wasn’t showing up after I updated it so I’m resubmitting it Judging by the rude response from the developer ("Hello, ITS THE NORMAL LOGIC, EMAIL IS UNIQUE, try another email then, and why you need delete then create the new one with same account?"), I will not be paying for this app or use it anymore. I deleted my account because you have no way to reset your progress in ANY of your apps. Maybe implement that? Don’t support creators who choose to be rude instead of communicating properly and improve their apps! Deeply disappointed. this is app is perfect, the combo ation of being able to define the words/translate and to be able to hear it greatly speeds up learning. I usually do a slow pass on each article, translating and listening as needed and highlighting words based on their tone. I also favorite sentences of they have grammar that didn't click in my mind to come back to. Then, I listen to it a few times and by the end of it i can pretty much follow every article. Words seems to stick so much better when its part of a story rather than one off sentences in duolingo or bunpo or something. there are so many features ive been wanted for years in other studying tools.
I rated five stars, but im actually having some trouble with the app. the source button for the difficult section has been broken for days, so I only have access to NHK. And the ui generally breaks pretty intermittently. Also the “watch an add to read another article” hasnt worked once since i started using this app. all that being said, there is nothing else like this on the app store and even woth its flaws it is extremely helpful to me, especially considering its free.Show lessbobsnobbibsnob
Really good for reading practice
I try and use this app once a day to practice my reading, the dictionary and the translation make it super easy. The only problem for me is I sometimes can not navigate around the site easily and possibly to use it to its full potential.Tansan1224

The app has a persistent problem with launching from a notification - the app launches but fails to show the story, and it can’t be found. The app also has some UI problems when this happens. I have to force quit the app to recover, which works but finding the story I was notified about is virtually impossible. Developer has been notified but despite frequent bug fix updates, the problem remains insolvable. Otherwise the app is good though I wish the dictionary was faster to launch within the app when a word is tapped. Looking forward to eventual fixes.Show lessマイケルですが

I really like this app, has so many fantastic features and invaluable for learning Japanese through immersion and reading. Would it be possible to add an option so that I can save my favourite songs/videos and come back to them later? I know you can do this for news articles which is very useful.
I also wish to ask, is there a setting to enable pitch accent notation on words in the dictionary?

This app covers just about everything you could want except for the actual learning the hiragana, katakana and kanji. And the kanji isn’t even really needed with the furigana option on. So you got reading material, video material, dictionary, it can read back news articles, quizzes.

I often see the furigana for the dates are wrong. Also, the reading voice is so robotic it sounds… well, like robot. It’s so unnatural. I paid £11 or something for annual (although I can’t remember exactly how much or for how long. Might have been for two years??) subscription. However, no matter how cheap, it was a waste of money becauseI I can’t use it for my students due to the aforementioned faults of this app.Show lessPrivate tutor M

This is app is absolutely amazing. Not only can you read articles based on your level and look up words immediately without the disruption of having to switch to a dictionary, you can also practice the words you’ve just seen with flash cards that have images for better memorisation. There are also further tests and jlpt prep which seems great. I am very impressed with this app and would recommend to anyone who wants to learn or simply keep their Japanese alive.
