Description of Satori Reader

Ready to take your Japanese reading and listening comprehension to the next level? Welcome to Satori Reader. COMPELLING STORIES Read from a growing library of engrossing stories written by native speakers for intermediate students, across genres such as fantasy, slice-of-life, thrillers, documentaries, news, and more. AUDIO Tap any sentence to hear it read aloud by native voice actors (no robots!). ADAPTIVE KANJI USAGE Crack the chicken-and-egg problem of reading kanji with our unique presentation engine, which adjusts the Japanese text to accommodate your actual knowledge. This allows you to challenge yourself for the kanji you should know without being overwhelmed by what you don't. SMART DEFINITIONS Tap any word for a definition. This is more than just an automated lookup. Satori Reader shows the actual sense of each word as it's being used in the sentence. For example, the particle の has many uses: it can indicate possession; it can turn the preceding verb or phrase into a noun; it can stand in for another word; and more. We show you exactly what is happening in every instance of every word. FRIENDLY ANNOTATIONS Gray underlines indicate longer annotations that break down tricky expressions, provide cultural background, or help you to read between the lines. Our editors work hard to anticipate what might be confusing and proactively help you to make sense of things. Good-bye, confusion. Hello, clarity! SPACED REPETITION SYSTEM (SRS) The built-in spaced repetition review system helps you to build your vocabulary. Create review cards instantly as you read. Each card you create takes along a snapshot of the sentence in which you encountered the word, further helping to cement it in your memory. You can even play back the audio of that sentence while reviewing the word! HUMAN FEEDBACK Still confused about something? Just ask in the comment section below each article. Knowledgeable staff are ready to help. Satori Reader is built by a team that cares. Our goal is to bring satori (enlightenment) into your Japanese reading life. Reviews of Satori Reader

Great content, not so great app

Amazing content for learning Japanese, however, navigating this app is slightly confusing. It doesn't seem to use the iOS app logic, loading is long and it doesn’t provide intuitive audio controls through skip x seconds or dragging the timeline…

Really Love Satori Reader!! Especially the full website

I wish I'd found Satori Reader years ago! This is soooo helpful and well-designed. My intermediate Japanese level reading stalled out for years because it's so hard to master all 2000 Kanji without a full-time training course and lots of free time :((( But this strategy that they've created really works well for me -- I'm learning a lot of kanji & vocab fast using the website on my laptop & tablet. And the audio & voices are so professional! Very fun. Very reasonable monthly price too. Love it! 5 Stars!

Great app!

I am learning so much from these stories. I use it daily. This has helped my Japanese more than any other app.

I have one suggestion. I have almost learned 3000 new cards. Before that I had a little over 2000 and decided to erase my progress and start over. I wish there were a way to restart a word that has aleady been learned which no longer appears in the rotation. Sometimes, I encounter a word that I learned a year ago, but now I have forgotten it. I would like to re-start a word with the new context. If I just add the new context, that does not make it reappear in the rotation if the word has already been learned.
