Airbnb for vans

The first time I tried using fluid truck the van was nowhere to be found and I couldn’t contact the seller. Fluid truck also had no idea what to do about the situation. At least I did get a refund but it was a waste of time.
The second time was completely different, straightforward easy the van was in an obvious spot, and in good condition.
So this is a bit like Airbnb – it’s driven by whether or not the owner is smart and conscientious.
If I had read the reviews on the first one, I would’ve seen a review, or someone else had a similar experience - so read the reviews for a location before renting!

Lack of flexibility in reservation extension

Beware: Fluid Truck will absolutely charge you more than the daily rate if you choose to extend your rental. I originally booked for a couple of hours, then extended an hour because I was worried about being late on the return. I was charged for 3 hours. No problem, right? Well, it turned out I needed to keep the truck overnight, so I extended again to return it in the morning, and instead of just charging me the rest of the balance needed to get to the daily rate, they charged me a full days rate on top of what I’d already paid, even though it was the same reservation. So for a 12 hour reservation and insurance, I paid over $180. The same reservation at U-Haul would have been less than $50 even with mileage, and they have similar self service after hours rentals now. I won’t be renting from Fluid Truck again.

Highly recommended

Fluid Truck has been a very important part of our business. It’s an excellent way to get your customers and employees served with a great dependable vehicle. Although all things need maintenance and repairs. Fluids technicians are always there to help assist with any issues that arise. I’ve had my situations with timely repairs and billing issues both my fault and theirs but customer service has never left me hanging. I’m pleased overall.

Fluid double charged me and won’t refund

I rented a truck in Lacey, Washington for a week to move furniture into a new home. I had to turn it in several days early because a check engine light came on and Fluid told me it was unsafe to drive. They told me to swap it for a new truck at no additional charge. They also promised to refund the fee for the first truck because of the inconvenience. I picked up the new truck and completed my move. However, Fluid charged me for a entire week for the first truck they required me to turn in, and also charged me for the second truck that was supposed to replace their first truck. In essence they double charged me. They did not live up to their word even after multiple contacts via phone and chat. They said it could take out to 10 days for the refund. It has now been 17 days.

Great concept. HORRIBLE APP.

First of all it’s first come first serve on the vehicles that are selected through the app. So if you find one you like: 1. It only shows you can rent it for an hour- so it’s confusing and 2. If someone checks out before you- you get to start over.

Today was my first and last time to use fluid. My reservation was cancelled 2 hours before pick up. So I had to spend another $270 to rent a truck ($150 refundable) just to be able to move. Mind you they have to refund the original $310 I had already given them.

The check in app is horrible. I understand taking photos of your vehicle but even after you’ve submitted them and you think you’re done the app doesn’t realize it. So I drove off. Moved. And brought the vehicle back and it wanted me to submit pick up photos… AGAIN!

So who’s knows what scheme they’re running and over charging people. Stick with uhaul or hire a professional.

Very useful app, and very useful service

This app is great. It allows you to rent a truck or a van or I believe the car as well. Anytime you need 124 hours a day seven days a week 365 days a year. It’s all done through the app so you don’t need any face to face time with anyone. Do set up your account and submit your drivers license before you actually need to use the app though because otherwise, there is a approval process where they need to run your license and approve you to drive which only took about 15 minutes for me, but may take longer for others I don’t know.

Best truck rental service in NYC

Honestly I’ve tried them all and this is the best, option there is. Honestly it’s sooo seamless. I don’t know any other company that would let you rent their trucks for this price or per hour. This is the only company out there that doesn’t have a high deposit and is extremely inexpensive. Everything is done via the app all you do is enter your drivers license, and credit card info and you’re approved! THATS IT, there’s no hidden fees, and they are very transparent about everything. Plus you can contact them at any time and reserve at anytime. They are very communicative and can always talk to a live person. 10/10 recommended!! $89 for a full day rental? 100 miles included? Where else but Fluid?

Way Too Intrusive

App mostly works okay. But needing to send pictures of myself and my license multiple times because the app can’t take an accurate pictures was cumbersome. The requirement for a picture of my credit card, my billing statements, proof of utilities for my address, alternate phone numbers…too much. Not being able to update credit card expiration dates is poor design. I guess it’s good they asked for so much info but it’s so much more than what’s needed and having to continuously do it every time you rent from them is a poorly set up system. Had a 5 star renter rating and this was my 5th time getting a truck. It is disingenuous to say they have a rigorous vetting process when they’ve let me do this so many times before without needing the blood type of my future unborn children. Got the same thing at Uhaul for 77% less where you can rent other things you might need to use during a local move, they are random vehicles left in sketchy parts of town, you can talk to a human if something is wrong, better quality control of the product, and Uhaul also lets you have additional drivers.

Brilliant Concept/Poor Execution

I love the concept of being able to rent my work truck when I’m not using it (which is fairly often). However, Fluid Truck’s app and website / overall platform feel like a beta experience. Thee are missing very basic features that make posting and managing your listing way more difficult and manual than it needs to be (e.g., collecting tolls, listing validation and management, etc.). Worse still is that the FAQs aren't helpful, and support is awful. They also only allow vehicles ten years old or newer with less than 100,000 miles. Commercial vehicles, if well-maintained, have a useful life well past that.
