Many anomalies on charts

Lake of the Woods ON Canada the charts for the lake have many odd contours often in a narrow channel where detail is important. Very frustrating to work with. Have to rely on paper charts for accuracy.

Good app for the water

I enjoy this app a lot. I was dissapointed to not be able to load the charts onto my Garmin striker 4, but found that having my iPad in a mount worked out great. I have had zero issues with the app. I wish it were a little more intuitive to mark a waypoint. I wish it were a little more intuitive to remove clutter from the charts. Also wish it were able to auto zoom depending on speed. Even switch to fishing mode if you slowed below 5 knots. Also would be great if it uploaded your tracks and you could view them on other devices. But all in all really happy with this app.

So difficult!

Garmin really hold the crown when it comes to impenetrable updates and software. I use Homeport for planning, Echomap 70dv for the boat and have just invested another £130 just for updated charting…. Any chance of it all working together…..nope! My life is too short, apparently I need Garmin express, Garmin Active captain and newer smartphone….can’t even register my new charts so we can use them on my wifes i-pad. Frankly, life is too short!

Poor app

Zero stars doesn’t really do anything. You can about plot a route, it is not clear how to get your own maps and contours from head unit to active captain, doesn’t seam to recognize water bodies. Even as a free app it’s not worth the waste of your own time ! If I could give it less than one star I would.

Gamin active captain

After many years as a loyal Lowrance user, I recently made the switch to Garmin and found it to be a significant upgrade in both functionality and user experience. Garmin’s sounder, combined with their ActiveCaptain app, has proven to be incredibly intuitive, with charts and navigation tools that are straightforward and reliable.

One of the standout features of Garmin is the ease of use, making even advanced settings accessible to both seasoned and novice users. The system comes with well-designed tutorials that greatly simplify the learning curve, something I found lacking in Lowrance. Marking locations, navigating routes, and interpreting sonar data are all seamless tasks, thanks to the clear interface and logical layout. The performance of the sounder, in particular, is outstanding, providing highly accurate readings with minimal setup time.

In retrospect, I wish I had switched to Garmin sooner, as the entire experience—from setup to daily operation—has been smoother than I anticipated. If you’re looking for a reliable, easy-to-use marine navigation system, Garmin stands out as a top choice. The combination of features like ActiveCaptain and the clear charting tools makes it an excellent option for anyone needing a dependable and user-friendly solution.

Not intuitive to use.

It’s great for info but not as easy to use as Navionics. To chart trips is difficult, not user friendly at all IMHO. Plus I can only use on my phone app, logging into it on laptop is pointless.

Great tool to have on hand when I go on the big water

Cannot switch app off

I cannot switch the app off. It eats my battery by running in the background. Only eay is to switch my phone off after each time I use the app. Very very poor for Garmin.

Echomap UHD72Sv
