  • Consistently incorrect - never wants to let an import happen

UPDATED REVIEW: Since the Developer assumed that I was referring to Aquarium Fish and not ANGLED FISH CAUGHT IN TROPICAL WATERS and decided to snap back about it - lowering this down to a 1 star review.

Feedback: Your app did not ID a fish caught in salt water, in the lower USA/tropical clime. Your app ID’ed that salt water fish as a mid-western lake fish.
If your app can’t cover fish identification outside of fresh water river or lake fish MAKE IT CLEAR.

Additional feedback: Listen to your potential subscribers instead of getting defensive and making assumptions instead of opening a dialog with them where you could have potentially gleaned important information that would have helped you improve your app and your customer support.
Poor showing on the developers part.
I’m not alone in my low opinion of this app.

    —————

It’s clunky, it’s absolutely way off the mark identifying a salt water tropical as a freshwater lake fish. It doesn’t let you import a photo you’ve taken of your catch it wants to take a photo with the app, buttons are unresponsive. I gave it 10 minutes, and I am highly tech literate, and the frustration and clunkiness made me so angry I cancelled my trial and I’m about to delete the app.

    Developer Response

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We strive to ensure every user has a 5-star experience, as many others have enjoyed. Regarding your specific scans, it's important to clarify a few points: 1 Image Quality: Your scan involved importing an image of more than a dozen fish stacked in a tray of ice on top of each other. FishVerify (FV) is optimized for identifying individual, live catches, which helps ensure accurate identification. 2 Coverage: FishVerify is designed primarily for serious recreational anglers in specific regions. Currently, FV does not offer coverage for the state of Washington. If your location settings show as ‘unknown region’, it may indicate that species in your region are not included in our database. 3 Scan Review: Upon reviewing your scans, we can provide specific insights into the issues you experienced. The initial response addressed common reasons for identification challenges, but your particular case involved factors like image quality and regional coverage limitations. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to reach out.

Sorry to hear you did not get an excellent experience. FishVerify was developed to support 'Recreational' anglers and is not built for tropical or aquarium users. Quality of the image can be impacted during auto recognition settings and by surroundings and contrast of the species being scanned. FV is built to provide regulations, species identification and edibility of fresh and saltwater fish that recreational angler catch. Fish images taken while still underwater or aquarium fish are not recognized by the app.
  • Thank you, great app

I have been fishing most of my life but not everyday, I have spent more time with my so. On the water now, and we are catching species I never got to catch so being able to identify them for my son is amazing. And to have the ability to have someone else that is a part of the team to help identify afterwards is amazing a great community I’m happy to be a part of. Keep up the great work!

  • Wouldn’t pay for this

I’ve tried to identify two fish. Neither even recognised.

    What’s this intended for?
  • Horrible Support

The reason I’m giving this application a one star is because of bad support. I have paid the premium service and waited a few days to see if it has changed, but unfortunately nothing has changed. I can take a picture to see what species I caught but nothing in the regulations which was the reason I paid the premium service. Very disappointing, I have sent various emails to the developers and haven’t heard back from them. After a few days I paid and verified PayPal with them sending a receipt still can’t get the species regulations. I have verified my location automatically and manually and still nothing. I still get this message “Species may be regulated your area. Please verify your location for correct regulations.” It has cool features but the developers need to fix those bugs and reply to paid customers.

We are disappointed with a 1-star rating for service and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you've experienced and appreciate your feedback. Our records show our team has been responding and has been engaged in working through the issues, including providing you a waiver of all costs associated with your purchase. We understand that the regulatory environment in California, coupled with varying fishing and boundary related regulations, can pose challenges that are not found in other states Our team is working diligently to streamline the process on the challenges you have shared. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and we look forward to the opportunity to make things right.
  • Perfect companion while fishing

Have used this for at least two years. Use this constantly while out. Not only identifies but also keeps be up to date on limits and sizes. One of the most useful apps I have. Recommend it to anyone who is fishing.

    Developer Response

Thank you for taking time to share your experience and for the 5 star rating and experience in using FV, our users feedback means a lot to us. Our team built FishVerify to fill in the void for our fellow recreational anglers that no other app on the market is built to provide.

  • Thanks for nothing 1 star, save your time don’t try this app

Downloaded it and created an account and everything just to be hit with subscriptions and fees. Horrible app. They don’t tell you until AFTER you have set everything up and give your info. Edit no thanks I will just use google image search. Worked just great. And no this does not cost less than my favorite fishing lure. I can use a lure over and over until I lose it from a branch. After a year this would be like throwing away $3 a month for 12 months what’s that $36 just for a fish identifier, when I can just do a quick google image search of my fish picture. Joke and a money hungry pit. I’m good

We appreciate user feedback. Not sure of the disconnect, all new users have a 3-day free trial access period to experience all the premium features that FV has to offer. Scanning/image recognition is a premium feature and will require an upgrade to a subscription to continue to use the state-of-the-art image recognition at the end of the 3-day trial for less than what your favorite drink or fishing lure costs.
  • Amazing and Accurate

Ignore those negative reviews, they must be written by jealous competitors. As a Novice angler and new to the area my local tackle store suggested I download FishVerify since it was the only app that let me know what I caught and the rules on how big and how many fish we could legally keep. Every fish (16 different species) we scanned came back perfect. Kudos to the FishVerify team as they made the app so easy to use that anyone with basic fishing skills can look like a seasoned angler.

Thank you for sharing your experience and we are as puzzled as you on the less than 5 star reviews. We are a team of fellow anglers who built FishVerify to help anglers practice sustainable fishing practices and to enjoy their time on the water. Reviews like yours are very much appreciated as it motivates our team to continue to bring to new features, expand and open new regions and add new species.
  • Snorkeling in Mexico

Could not identify any of the fish I spotted except for one

    Developer Response

Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding skin diving in Mexico and FishVerify, We need to clarify your disappointment is based using the app for something it was not built to provide when you encountered difficulties with the app's image recognition capabilities, specifically when trying to identify fish through underwater images. It's important to note that capturing clear and well-lit images underwater can be challenging due to various factors such as contrast, lighting conditions, and image clarity. These factors can indeed impact the accuracy of the app's identification results. To ensure the highest accuracy, the app performs best when identifying species that have been removed from the water and for those species listed and in regions supported and contained within our extensive database. This allows for better recognition and more reliable results.
