  • really liking it so far

I’ve only been using it for a few days but so far I really like the amount of detail you can add about your symptoms and other factors beyond food. One small thing that would be a huge improvement for me would be having a wider range of hours available in the “how much sleep did you get” section, since I suffer from fatigue related to my symptoms I regularly sleep 10+ hours a night and the sleep tracker only goes up to 8+, which make it hard to see if sleeping only 8 or 9 hours has an effect on my symptoms vs 10 or 11 hours. The sleep tracker also has pretty wide chunks of 2 whole hours, which I would think also makes this harder to track. That’s my only comment, otherwise great app!

edit 2023: can’t really complain about a free app and in general cara care is amazing, but I wanted to report a small bug/UI issue that is very frustrating, which is that swiping down cancels a report before you’ve saved it. I’m not sure why this feature exists, since there is a very obvious cancel button, and the amount of times that I’ve wanted to delete an entire report I’ve written before saving it is far surpassed by the number of times I’ve accidentally slightly swiped down while trying to press the Save All button, thus deleting my carefully registered meal, symptoms, etc. and having to start over from zero due to a careless motion. Please please please if you can eliminate this gesture it would be a time saver!!!

  • Fantastic

Ok, I’ve only been using it for around a week, but I genuinely think it’s wonderful. I’m currently trying to figure out many different food sensitivities and a generally wacky digestive system and I think this app is going to make a difference for me. The app has a way to log your: food, discomfort/bloating, exercise, water, stool, period, medications, sleep, stress, emotions, skin plus just an option to put notes. (If that’s overwhelming don’t worry none of it’s mandatory to log the rest) Then it graphs out your information in each of the categories. There’s also a feature where it shows some of the food on your best and worst days but like I said I’ve only been using it for about a week so that’s not really helpful yet. Anyways to sum up, I think it’s a well organized app with a way to track pretty much anything you could want. It’s free (obviously) and I haven’t even seen any ads. THANK YOU to the creators for putting this up for free

  • Excellent health tracker

I’m trying to figure out what foods are my triggers and so far I’m really enjoying Cara, though I do have two suggestions:

I’m someone that has to get up really early for work (3:30) so sometimes my first entry of the day gets tracked under the previous day, which is going to throw off my data. The day’s entries should start new at midnight.

The other thing I wish was different was the ability to add different custom trackers, like an appetite scale, so that when I don’t track breakfast because I skipped it, I can know that it was because I didn’t have an appetite and that I didn’t just forget to track my breakfast.

  • Really great app except...

I’ve been dealing with food intolerances and this app has helped a ton to figure out which foods they are. BUT there’s two things I can pick out that if we’re fixed would make this app a 5 out of 5. #1 Coffee and Medications/Supplements aren’t included in the best/worst foods tables. A work around is creating a unique item but this really should be fixed. All items that can be ingested should display. #2 You can either track the intolerances for current day or next day, but not both. Depending on what I’m eating sometimes I get a reaction the day of and other times the following morning. To me, having an option for both would be more ideal.

    Update:
I stopped using Cura for a while but always come back because it’s the only quality food intolerance tracking app. I have a third issue. #3 I wish there was a centralized location to manage custom “Favorite Dishes”. Overall, this is still a great app in comparison to other similar apps available.

  • You may lose all your tracking data

I liked the app overall until the best/worst foods feature stopped working. I reached out to Cara Care’s support, but they take several days to respond to each message. I have an account connected to my email, so I thought my information was being backed up. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app. While that fixed the best/worst foods feature, I found that a significant chunk of my tracked data was gone. Support from the app is very slow to respond, and ultimately had no solution. They said sorry and that my “tracked data must be somewhere.” I will no longer use this app, just because my tracking data disappearing renders the app until useless. If being able to retrieve your data is important to you, realize you may lose your tracked data with this app with no option to restore it even if you’ve got an account with a confirmed email. And support will tell you they have no idea how long it will take to help you.

Hello, we are really sorry that you had such a bad experience using our app. We were working a lot on these tools and released some updates since then. We would love if you give us a second chance and try it out again. Let us know if we can help you further :)
  • Easy to Use, Effective App

I’ve just started using this app. I downloaded two other highly-rated apps before CaraCare. It was difficult to figure out how to use, understand, and personalize those apps. One of them had a very annoying ad for their premium program on every page and with every click. I couldn’t locate the tutorials, and they weren’t nearly as comprehensive or as easy to use as CaraCare. CaraCare is intuitive and easy to understand, easy to use, easy to personalize, and surprisingly comprehensive and thorough. I used a migraine tracking app for many years that made a huge difference for me in understanding why I get migraines. It led me to a diet that has cut migraine days 15 days a month to less than 1 per month. I’m excited to find CaraCare and hope that by thoroughly tracking my IBS symptoms within CaraCare, I will be able to also make this chronic and life-limiting problem a thing of the past.

  • Super great app and responsive team

I don’t have IBS (but going to read all the included articles) but a disrupted GI since a food poisoning incident five years ago, made worse last year by an antibiotic Xifaxan. I previously started using this app in prep for fodmap diet. Dietician said I didn’t need that and NP gave me this antibiotic instead. Whoops. Big mistake. So glad I had info from pre-antibiotic on this app to compare..... well everything and anything. It’s so easy to use and modify. If u need to track gut issues or food related questions go for this app. My questions have always been answered promptly. I hope they make good use of our collected data Thanks Cara!

  • Decent App but Major Annoyances

I don’t usually write reviews but I’ve found this app to be extremely frustrating.

    A) If I want to record food/symptoms from the past, I have to manually put the date in each time. There’s no option to go to the date and add everything (this option only exists if you have nothing else on that day but once you record something, the option goes away). This makes adding information from the past extremely time-consuming and almost impossible. It’s best to record the day of, but it’s too late for me. Recommendation: Please add an option to track additional food/symptoms on the daily overview.

    B) For some reason, you can’t record the severity of nausea/vomiting without calling it “bloating”. I don’t have bloating but in order to record nausea/vomiting and how bad they were so that they show up as severe symptoms on the tracker, I have to say that I have bloating. Recommendation: Create a separate scale for nausea/vomiting.

    C) This is minor, but if you need help or advice on the weekend, you’re out of luck.

This app is honestly well-designed and probably very useful, but these issues are making it difficult for me to get the GI information I need.

  • Ok but lots of room for improvement

It’s generally an ok tracker but there are a LOT of opportunities for improvement:
    1) doesn’t allow you to track AMOUNT of food that you have, which is.... pretty annoying. You can add ingredients to a meal (which is tedious for bigger/more complex meals) but it can imply that each ingredient is of equal proportion, which may not be helpful for actually figuring out what’s bothering you
    2) the food database is pretty limited, and you can’t scan barcodes to add anything
    3) can’t track calories and nutrients, I need to track protein intake and have to use a different app
    4) UI isn’t very intuitive, it wasn’t apparent how to add tags
    5) Takes a full day for someone to respond to the chat bot
    6) can’t track your energy levels
    7) app crashed and now I can’t open it on my Home Screen

I haven’t found an app that does everything which is incredibly surprising. I’ve been using this for about 5 days and it takes 6 days for it to come up with likely symptom triggers, so we’ll see if it’s still worth it in a day.
