Comet for reddit User Reviews

Flawed.

After Reddit destroyed third party app support with spez’s idiotic stupidity causing Apollo to shut down, I’ve been looking for an alternative to the blindingly frustratingly UN-user-friendly official app. I thought maybe that it’s this one. It’s not.

None, I mean NONE of Reddit’s settings, like blocked users and subreddits, transfer over to Comet. Meaning, theoretically, you’ll need to reset those settings within this app manually.

This includes NSFW concern being hidden “by default.” This might not be a deal breaker for some, and by NSFW stuff it’s not all that important actually, but I’ve tried and TRIED to set this to show NSFW and NOTHING WORKS! It’s still all hidden. I’ve had this setting on since I first was on Reddit almost 5 years ago. It’s set to show unblurred NSFW stuff in the terrible official app, in the website itself, all to no avail.

Normally this wouldn’t be a deal breaker as I don’t care much about that side of Reddit, but if this app doesn’t allow showing NSFW stuff, telling you have to turn these settings on in the app or Reddit website before you can view this stuff, only to STILL not show it even after all these settings are turned on, what else isn’t it doing??

Inferior app for a now inferior site.

Great but more customization would be nice

Only 2 small (very small) nitpicks, for the home page instead of it being r/all or popular, would it be possible to make it start with all the subreddits we’ve subbed to?

And for the second one, for nsfw posts, instead of the “ !” Can we make it so its blurred instead, or just not blurred at all?

Crashes a lot

Switched after Apollo closed down. Not reliable, crashes a lot. Used on an iPhone 14 Pro.

Dead

Not the apps fault, but Reddit is charging for API access now.

Excellent

good for those who want a more minimalistic reddit app. Sadly no longer works due to reddits API changes killing off all third party apps.

Looks promising but…

I’ve installed this app twice and it’s still super buggy for me. It’s literally unreadable, the text is all layered over each other, also can’t sign into Reddit. Nothing happens, just get stuck on the authorization page. Hope this gets addressed soon

Decent Alternative after Apollo Shutdown

Not perfect and the UI could use some work to reduce the number of clicks needed to reach certain menus but much better than the stock Reddit app. Shame that Apollo and other third party apps were closed due to API changes but this one gets the job done

Needlessly difficult to log out

Why make it so many clicks to get to the log out button?
Edit: now it doesn’t even log out!

had to log out and back into

was not loading anything — it used to work, not sure when it stopped working logging out and back in fixed it, but would be good if any authentication issues were surfaced to the user

also it’s trying to paste from my clipboard **every time** I switch to it

Buggy still missing audio from some videos and gifs

This app is only good for text and images. Sounds is missing from videos and gifs sometimes.
