  • Absolute garbage

I was hoping to take some nice photos using my iPhone with this extra grip.
    How wrong I was.
It occasionally worked but when pressing the shutter it did nothing.
    On occasion it completely froze.
Having to reboot again to get it back on.
I lost my temper with the grip and ended up throwing it into the river. Splash!
If you want to take proper photos. Dump the phone and buy a proper camera.

  • Reasonable hardware let down by subpar software

Pictar is in the business of selling phone grips. The grips are quite sturdy and seem well made. They use a proprietary method to communicate with the phone, not Bluetooth. This means the grips are only compatible with their software. They get 2 stars for the software functioning. But it doesn’t function well. It still doesn’t support all 3 lenses on the newer model iPhones. It is slow. And the fact that the grip isn’t even Bluetooth means you can’t use the shutter button with another app.

  • Pictar app

Has greatly improved my photographs. I wish the settings would stay locked when The camera is removed from the pictar body. No other problems.
  • Why?

I have the original Pictar since 2018 with my iPhone 8. I am using my old iPhone 8 now and i found that i can’t use my old Pictar because of a ¿bar code scan? Please fix that problem.
  • Just a grip

Software doesn’t work. Read all reviews to troubleshoot problems, with no luck. Just won’t get past the attempt to scan the bar code. And what does that flashing blue light mean anyway. Luckily you can still this thing as a grip.
  • iPhone SE 2020

    not able !
  • Does not work out of the box

When I purchase a product I want it work immediately. This doesn’t. The instructions are not accurate. The device doesn’t come charges. The instructions don’t explain why the blue light blinks. The manufacturer assumes the user will think it is a Bluetooth, but they don’t instruct the user to connect to a Bluetooth device in settings. In settings there is no name of a device like Pictar.
It is a cute idea but not ready for mainstream. I would recommend people wait until device is user friendly and when the features like the buttons actually work.
For now it is an attachment to the phone that is not necessary.

  • Interference

This could easily be a four-star app, and with a tweak or two a five star.

Pictar needs to emphasize that the Pictar app communicates with the Pictar Pro device using ultrasonic sound. That means that anything that communicates with your smart phone using the microphone will very likely cause the Pictar Pro device to malfunction...or not function at all.

In my case I discovered that my Bluetooth hearing aids rendered the Pictar Pro device inoperable. When I turned my hearing aids off, the Pictar Pro device worked beautifully.

  • Crashes or freezes.

Version 2.0.2 is not very usable om my up-to-date Iphone XS. Have to restart the app way too often and this makes me reach for the standard camera app again when making pictures on the go. That makes my pictar obsolete or just an expensive iPhone holder. Please fix the stability issues asap.
  • Zero functionality with new iPhone!

App does not work with new iPhones. Shutter button is not recognized. Developer updates non existent! Great job, glad I spent extra money of the Pictar Pro! SCAM
