Doesn’t work with Apple Watch 7

Been using this app for months on new Apple Watch 7 but every time I paddle it measures as a wave ridden. I’ve been working with developers for months but still no fix

It’s really good but not great

The premise of the app is great, but it really wants you to do is upgrade to the soul surfer plan which is really annoying. Doesn’t really feel like there are enough features for the free and paid version but rather they are just expecting that you will upgrade.
I will also add that when tracking the app consumes a lot of power - which is a bit disappointing - but perhaps this is a hardware issue related to my personal device? For context; I have a 41mm series 7 cell and went for a surf this morning. I jumped in the water with 68% power which actively tracked me for 1hr and 25 min before the device died. I stayed out for about 2hrs.
My review is a bit critical, so I will add that it’s cool that you can add different surfboards to sessions and it integrates with health, fitness rings and surfline very seamlessly which I enjoy. Overall the app does what it says it does and yes it’s worth getting. I just feel that it has the potential to be a little more refined.

Cool idea and nice looking app. Doesn’t work in practice.

Ambitious idea and a really smart looking app. I was wondering how it can accurately count waves and sadly the answer is it cannot. I just tried it out down at my local break - sloppy 3ft winter waves into a shore break. I caught 7 waves in my hour surf, the app thought I caught 31 waves and 15-20 seconds ride each, in reality no single wave I caught was more than a about a 5-8 second ride. I would hope that some of those 31 recorded waves include the actual 7 but I’ve no idea which they may be (and they’re all too long) so sadly all the data is garbage. Shame because it looks nice and would be a good way of tracking surfs but I’ll go back to the proprietary Apple activity app I think.

Thanks for your feedback. We are aware of some cases with decreased accuracy. We’re working hard to resolve this. Would you want to help us providing more info and beta testing? Faulty with privacy issues

I got this app and paid for a subscription primarily to add the tide and other weather complications to my watch face. Those were great but my watch now constantly starts a surf workout inadvertently and writes the data to Apple Health / Fitness. It did this even after turning write permissions for this app off in privacy.

The fake workouts (eg a 15-hour surf, partly in your sleep) blow out your fitness rings and awards etc. Its impossible to fully back out the health data and incorrect awards, which means you will have inaccurate long term trends and parts of the Apple fitness rewards scheme are now impractical to meet.

Hi, sorry to hear that. When you opt out for health data the app should indeed not record anything in Apple Health or Fitness. Could you please reach out to our Support team? We would love to investigate this and fix this. Also, we're working on avoiding the app to start dummy sessions as well. We'll be releasing an update soon which should improve that.

Counts wave ride’s that don’t exist

Counts wave that I don’t ride

Beautiful Watch App…

But I hate it how it automatically tracks surf sessions just by touching the screen and turning the crown. Somehow I must be doing this without even trying, because every time I use the watch face, I see it’s tracking a surf session. And there’s no way to delete sessions! I don’t even use it for surfing. I just like to know the tide for swimming. I wish there was a cheaper version with a one time purchase that’s just tides, no sync or surf tracking. And I wish the developer would make it so it’s not so easy to start a surf session accidentally.

Great app for some reason a lot of my surfs seem to be doubled up ! So I have to go through each month and delete half of them ! But apart from that it works well !

Hi, sorry to hear that! Hope with our latest updates this issue should be resolved. Please reach out to our support team if this continues to happen though! Happy surfing

Don’t trust

In the last APP updateThey lost all my data from almost 2 years. When I contacted them they were unprofessional about it -they gave me horrible instructions as to how to retrieve. Was not possible- and then they just went silent never got back to me again. Don’t kid yourself guys this app is not free they’re collecting data on us and selling it. I paid for a SOUL surfer subscription that I can’t even use bcz it won’t attach to the new version I had to reinstall .

Missing Strava

Overall the app is great. It’s well designed and works without issue. The only reason I didn’t give it a 5 is the lack of Strava integration and the price. The subscription is steep (like double what I expected) for what you get!

Bring the tide back please

Isn't it ironic that as a paying Soul Surfer, you can access information about what the tide *was* during your sesh, but Dawn Patrol have recently removed that information from the screen when you're actually surfing!? Knowing the tide at a given moment and when it will next turn is, in some spots, a huge determinant re: whether one should stay in the water. Am I in the middle of a very long lull, or has the tide risen and swamped out the spot? The tide number would provide important clues. It's often a major safety consideration too--at some spots I surf, rocks and reef become dangerously close to the surface or start to emerge at certain tides. It's very important for me to know not just where we are in the tide cycle, but the actual number. 2 feet. 5 feet. -1.5 feet. Both for the in-session screen and the watch complications, it has become increasingly difficult to understand what the tide is now and when it'll turn. The charts that currently load look cool but are practically far less useful than the previous setup. because the actual numbers have been left out.

Suggestion: I don't care about my total wave time, nor seeing the tide graph complication with unmarked axes showing what it’ll be at 2am. Can you please remove those and give me the tide numbers within the session interface again so I can make important go/no-go decisions in the water and surf more safely? Thank you!
