  • Best App Ever

We are coming off of the 2024 eclipse where Astrospheric was instrumental in helping us find a clear location to catch totality. Someone the morning of the eclipse added a feature that linked to live satellite views of cloud cover - absolutely brilliant. Thank you so much for making such a robust, easy to use, well coded app. You made our eclipse experience amazing! Also also, using this app for general weather or more importantly, stargazing is the best app you can possibly use. I want to shout you out on social media but I can’t find anything, so to the app reviews I go!

  • Not Accurate for Forecasts or Current Conditions

I like the user interface of this app, and of course it provides a lot of information that could be useful to astronomers. But I’m surprised that it gets such good ratings from astronomers. On most occasions, the forecast has simply been wrong. It seems to also be wrong in real time — for example, it’ll be 100% cloudy outside but this app will show a blue box and report 0% cloud cover at that time. My GPS location is correct, but it just keeps reporting conditions that are not correct. As a result, I don’t find it useful for predicting stargazing conditions. The app itself is laid out nicely though, so if they could improve their weather source I think this would actually be a great app.

  • Zero prediction reliability - don’t waste time

Been trying to use this for years but it has a perfect zero reliability in Predicting cloud cover in the northeast. If I could give it a zero I would. I’ve put in Reports of the issue but what does the app developer do, nothing but think you should now pay for the worst forecasting imaginable!! Do t waste your time or money.

  • Three forecast models combined!

I love this app! It is my go-to for checking the astronomy forecast.
The free version provides a highly detailed forecast based on the Canadian weather model.

The forecast is updated every 6 hours. The detailed forecast covers roughly the next three days. (The extended forecast goes out much farther but with fewer details and that is understandable because it is much more difficult to predict.)

The 'Pro' tier (in-app purchase) combines two additional models to produce an "ensemble" forecast based on Canadian, North American, and European models (color coded so you know which model is forecasting clouds). I can't count the times I'd check a forecast, get the all-clear, and show up to a cloudy sky.
Thanks to the ensemble forecast, if all forecasts agree that it will be clear ... you are probably in the clear. (The Pro tier is also ad-free)

The ensemble forecast feature is also available to astronomy clubs and star parties at no cost if you qualify (that tier still has ads but you do get the ensemble forecasts). It is nice that the author extends this to clubs and star parties that do public outreach to share their passion for the night sky.

  • Powerful and easy to use!

Interface has an amazing amount of data at a glance. An irreplaceable resource to help me figure out where and when I can shoot with my telescope.
  • Astropheric

I love this app, but the cloud motion aspect is terrible sometimes even with a good cell signal. For example, I can watch a Netflix movie on my cell phone right this moment, but the animation part of Astrospheric won't work. This is unacceptable for those of is that take our astrophotography to remote dark sights. This aspect really needs to improve.

  • Very useful, but getting ads

I really like the usefulness of this app. I don’t waste time putting up equipment and can plan my astrophotography sessions with a good deal of confidence. My only complaint is I have a pro subscription but continue to see ads. What’s up with that? Would have given 5 stars otherwise.
  • Excellent app

I really like Astrospheric: it gives consistently reliable weather and seeing forecast. I use it all the time for my solar imaging and never lets me down.
  • Avid Amateur Astronomer

Have used this app as my go to for my viewing since I was made aware of it and it has has always been as accurate as possible, since weather prognostication is not an exact science. Thanks.
  • A must have for astrophotography

I use this app every single time I plan an imaging session. I’d say it’s probably 90% accurate even with my state’s unpredictable weather patterns.
