  • Just got it

I really like this app so far! Really did a good job of making it work like a real darkroom! I’m so excited to use this!
  • Incredible pro camera app!

Awesome app with plenty of control over your image. Small learning curve if you don’t understand the darkroom process but it has tutorials that are simple to follow. Master the Darkr app and you will create some jaw-dropping photography.
  • Good but buggy

The viewfinder lags, and it crashes often while editing, leading to lots of frustration and lost time. Until that’s fixed there’s pretty much to reason to use this not even knowing if my progress is going to be saved. I just bought the full version too 🤷🏽‍♂️
  • Like a good old fashion dark room

I am so happy I paid for this app. The developer(s) should be proud of him/her/themselves to pulling off such a fluid app with such an extraordinary user experience. Well done
  • my new favorite iphone photo editor!!!!

This app is seriously the best iPhone photo editing app I have come across so far. I shoot medium format film and this really is a great fun tool for the iPhone and my iPhonography. I can't speak highly enough about this app. Favorite so far for iPhone work!!!
  • LOVE THIS APP

I absolutely love being able to “play in the darkroom”. The flexibility and creativity it allows is a great reminder to my start with photography. Both great BW photo app and nostalgia :)
  • Great App but ....

Love this app. Slows down shooting and developing the image which in today’s point and shoot everything is simply brilliant. My only criticism is the pocket camera. View finder too small and it’s just not worthy of this app. I would love to see a modern 6x7 or 645 format camera with auto / manual modes and a normal viewfinder image. In the meantime stick with the 6x6 camera and have fun. If you have done traditional wet chemistry B&W then the app is very intuitive, if not then the tutorials are a good place to start and just experiment. I don’t normally review apps but this one is unique, fun and creates great images. 5 out of 5 from me.

  • Some functionality not working on iPhone se

Cant find the button to apply dodging.

    Developer Response

You haven't selected any strip before you start drawing the mask. In a normal darkroom, you always need to know how much time you want to dodge or burn. That will change the amount of effect the dodge and burn will have. So, in Darkr you have to find the strip that will suite the image. So, unless you haven't selected any strip prior to drawing the mask, Darkr doesn't know how much you want to dodge and burn and hence the done-button isn't visible
  • Slow Down and Have Fun

If you're looking for an app with excessive filters and "cutesy" overlays, this isn't it.

However, if you'd like to get a hint of how it felt to shoot analogue and develop in a darkroom, this app is a fun exercise.

Like film and darkroom processing, Darkr forces you to slow down and consider your photographic choices and actions. It's not a go-to, grab-a-shot-on-the-fly camera app. But it IS a way to expand your photographic thinking.

And I love the medium and large format options--and Darkr's execution of them!
