Worst Gym App Ever

Doesn’t always hold my preferred site no matter how many times I tick the yes box.
Painfully slow loading. Ridiculous number of irrelevant choices for how you’d like to view your bookings in the classes booked section. The three choices of types of activities to book mean nothing. I tap all them and very often only sports load. ie netball etc. I have to un tap and tap all of them again then scroll through everything to find classes. When I have a list of my bookings, only the date is shown not the day. When the list is long, showing the day would be really helpful. My old gyms app showed everything in diary form - so much better. I’d like to give it no stars; awful.

Need development

To be able to activate QR code system sent me code via email 15 times and after 15 attempts still does not accepting the code sent by them via email

Update needed!

It’s ok. It still seems to log me out for no reason, and the variations on how you can view your bookings are still a mystery to me. But what the developers could do to make life simpler is create a way of merging with a calendar app. That would be amazing. If I do it through my gmail app I have to manually input the data. If I do it through my apple mail app I can click on the date and create an event but I am up there a lot so will take me forever to do, so I just want a way of merging the two! It seems so outdated for what is an excellent and current facility.

Terrible, redundant app

This app is terrible and redundant. You’re giving a different company access to your data for no real reason. The app just displays your membership and booking as a Safari webpage, so just use that and add the bookmark to your Home Screen. If you do it this way I guarantee you won’t have to keep logging in when you open it! The health tracking portion of the app fetches data from Health so it is again pointless. You already have access to everything this app offers when you take an iPhone out of its box. If you’re unable to book after buying a membership, logout, clear your cookies and history, then log back in and it will fix it.

Issues with logging into the app

I used to be able to log into the app with no issues but for the last few months it keeps saying I have entered my details incorrectly. I have removed the app and re-installed it several times, and have also reset my password though the web version to make sure I am entering the correct one. However I still get an error message. When I press reset password on the app itself, I never get an email, not even to my junk folders. I have tried this over 20 times and no email ever comes through. I raised this issue via email to customer services and got a response saying it was being looked into. That was over a month ago and I haven’t heard anything since. Not a good experience at all!

Awful

Truly, one of the most awful app experiences. Firstly it’s slow, like the website I mean SLOW. Secondly navigation is confused, app users have specific goals and want to get to the labels and buttons to achieve those goals quickly. This app makes that too hard, you wade through all sorts of brochureware to eventually get to poorly labelled controls. E.g. what is a ‘late-early swim session? Thirdly, card payments? Forget it. They are tortuously slow and frequently cause the app to croak. My app account (and bank a
account) indicate a payment made for a swim session, but I am now prevented from further bookings because the app has recorded this as an unpaid session - just call the centre and ditch the app.

Unreliable, slow and cumbersome

2021 update. This app is still hopeless two years on. Painfully slow to load, it randomly logs me out for no discernible reason and a couple of weeks ago introduced yet another step that slows down booking still further as it forces you to scroll down before you can confirm. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve seen the logon screen messages and selected don’t show me again and still I see the messages every. Single. Time. It’s absolutely dire and not fit for purpose.
This app is the bane of my life. It’s unreliable, frequently down and even when it does function, it’s long winded and cumbersome to use. Unfortunately, booking two weeks in advance is the only way of getting into classes that are always massively over subscribed so every day I have to waste time refreshing the app, logging in and out again and waiting for the page to load. It’s supposed to be a useful tool not a hurdle to get over each day. Sort it out.

I’m getting fatter, that’s how useless this app is

I’ve been a pretty conscientious gym member for around 5 years and I relished the thought that I could book classes in advance on my phone at the tap of a thumb. Turns out that’s the only exercise I’m getting as the app never works, every class is fully booked or there is nothing available on any day I choose, whether this week, next week, next month, whatever. I thought it was just teething problems or that everyone else was just faster than me at booking classes but I have since discovered that is not the case.

The instructors get paid depending on the number of people attending their classes so they are also suffering and they are paid a pittance anyway.

I have had an epiphany and found a novel solution; using the telephone and/or talking to a human being on reception actually pays dividends. There usually is availability when you want it, the classes are rarely fully booked after all.

After 18 months of intermittent closures and openings of the gym I can’t believe this ridiculous app is actually conspiring to keep my lockdown pounds on my hips and underpay its staff. It’s extremely annoying that nobody at Places Leisure seems to be addressing this issue and the poor staff on reception in leisure centres around the country bear the brunt of the frustration a lot of people must be feeling.

Difficult with useless booking system

This app is stuck in the Stone Age. The booking system is absolutely hopeless. The filter system to filter what you’re looking for never works so you end up scrolling through pages of info just to find something. Managing bookings is even more useless. There’s no way to filter out bookings properly so you’re left scrolling through pages of info again. Just to cancel I booking I have to sort by date and scroll through every booking I’ve ever made to find what I’m looking for. Absolutely hopeless. Places charges double what gyms and centres like pure gym do but yet there app is years behind. Employ a proper team and get it done right please. Extremely painful - especially in Covid times where I have to book every single day just to go into the gym.

Utterly Pointless

Exactly what is the point of this app? Just joined my local leisure centre online - super easy - was then redirected to download this app to manage membership and bookings etc - it doesn’t work. No idea how it managed to pass QA before it launched, but in the twenty odd minutes of my life that I’ve just lost twiddling around with it, it was so slooow, crashed at least three times and links either don’t work or just don’t ever load. Trying to force the reload of a page just prompts it to ask me to login again. Every other gym I’ve ever been a member of has had an app that works. It’s 2021. There are thousands of app designers and coders out there who could fix this - find them, employ them and sort it out. If it proves to be a hindrance in booking classes going forwards then I’ll be taking my business elsewhere. Really, really poor.
