  • I want to like this app

I really want to like this app but it’s more frustrating than fulfilling. I like the concept of taking a picture at random times of whatever is right in front of you, but the 4 minute cut off is too short. Even if you pay for the app you only have 8 minutes from the time your notification goes off (I even missed it when I still had 1 minute left) but I am not a person who is glued to my phone so I have more “missed” moments than captured, which really just means I’m more living in the moment than waiting to capture it. I would like it more if there wasn’t a time limit and it just took the photo when you opened the app after notification. But it’s so frustrating when I “miss” a moment because I am cooking , or feeding my pets or spending time away from my phone. There is no way I am paying for this app because of this. Great concept but poor execution. I am not sure if I am going to keep going with the app because it’s honestly so frustrating to “miss a moment” so often. I guess this is better if you are constantly connected to you phone. I am not

Hey, thanks for the feedback. We definitely understand that missing moments can be really frustrating, especially at the beginning. But it’s worth remembering that minutiae is a 1440-day journey—it’s a long time. The goal of the project is to allow you to capture different minutes of your day - not necessarily to capture all of them.
  • Cool, insightful, charming and therapeutic.

I wrote a review on Reddit so I’m going to copy and paste it.

I love this app. I find myself anticipating when the alert might go off every day. I feel proud of the moments l've captured despite the moments l've missed. And I know it somewhat defeats the purpose, but I find myself leaving the house more now and hoping I'll get the notification while I'm at the beach or doing something fun, or even while l'm driving past a stunning view. I think I might even appreciate the natural look of everyday life more. It's been motivating and therapeutic, in a sense. I like the idea of people seeing my mundane photos like I see theirs, and I like seeing the odd moments they've captured that are inadvertently photogenic, like a picture of their cat or a view from their porch, and I wonder if they think the same of mine. I realize how much you can learn about someone based on a few minute images, like that someone collects figurines or enjoys painting or that they often play video games for fun or they take walks in the evening a lot, all inferred by a few pictures. (Similar feelings I got as when I played the game Unpacking for the first time.)

  • Match me

Update- Wrong info in reply from Dev..
I’ve ALWAYS been inside 1min of the notification, matched only once…
OK I’m 76 moments in with a fair few missed but- ONLY ONCE have I been able to see the live image of another user…?! It was sooo cool but how come only that once..?!? So I’ve just fronted for premium… let’s see if that helps…? I’m keen to try and even support this financially but it’d be cool to share someone else’s random moment with my own…?

Hello, You’re only matched with another participant if you capture your moment within the first minute of receiving the notification. If you’re a subscriber, you have four extra minutes to capture your moment; however, you don’t get matched with another participant if you capture your moment during the four-minute window. To see their moments, tap the black box underneath the moments you just captured while browsing your timeline.
  • In Love

This app is absolutely phenomenal. For about five years I have kept my phone on silent. About one month into using this app, I decided it’s worth keeping my sound on so I can easier be notified 😂 I love every part of this app. I love the slow nature of it. I love the rhythm of it. I love the realness of it. I love the intimacy of it. It seriously feels so special to be able to see some random person’s extraordinary ‘mundane’ life and that someone can see mine. The magic that the entire world is ‘lit up’ in the exact same moment with people taking a quick snapshot of their life. The joy of seeing what sort of repetition is in my life. The excitement when it goes off and I’m doing something unique. Man oh man. It’s really hard to even put into words how much I love the entire essence of this app/project. Thank you for creating this. Thank you for letting me be a part of your magical art project.

  • Spread out the moments?

Only had a week but so far all moments have been in the evening or at night. Itching to have some moments in the day, thinking this app is perhaps not for people in my part of the world( uk) but will hang on a while longer to see. It’s a lovely concept

Hello, absolutely understand that missing moments can be really frustrating, especially at the beginning. But it’s worth remembering that minutiae is a 1440-day journey, it’s a loooong time. Throughout the 1440-day cycle, you will have been able to capture every single minute in a day.
  • Too many bugs - Australia

Another one for “if you’re in Australia don’t bother”.
I have a schedule during part of the week which keeps me somewhat in synch with the Northern Hemisphere due to very early work days, but the app has a strike rate of about 20% for me due to it just not opening when the alarm goes off, or it allows me to take a picture, but then it won’t me the picture of my alternate, or just no alarm because my hours didn’t match up with the time it wants to contact me.
    Cool concept, poor execution.

However, throughout the 1440-day cycle, all participants will be able to capture the exact same number of moments regardless of where in the world you live. Note that if the moment occurs during the window of your “Do Not Disturb” mode, the moment will still happen, you just won’t receive the notification. If you wish to receive all notifications, just disable the “Do Not Disturb” in the app.
  • One of my priority apps

I’ve had Minutiae a little over a year now, and I absolutely adore it. It was one of the first apps I downloaded when I upgraded my phone, one of the only ones I’ll drop everything for (within reason!), and one of the only one allowed to give me notifications (when I’m awake).

Every time I capture a basic moment, I know it’s likely to bring back memories of a certain time in my life. And every time it goes off during something momentous — dinner with friends, a concert, sight-seeing on vacation — I’m thrilled because I know flipping through my photos will bring back that memory. Plus, there’s just something special about sharing moments of my life with others, and seeing theirs, too. It feels a little like eaves-dropping on the people at the booth behind mine in a restaurant, or people-watching at the mall, only with permission.

At first I was worried about what I would encounter during other people’s unfiltered moments, but drugs, nudity, etc. have been no problem so far. I don’t know how they do it, but this place stays clean and respectful, which I think shows both the caliber of the app and the people who use it.

  • Great Concept

It has bugs but what doesn't - introduce me to an app or other software which doesn't have bugs and I will eat the sky. Hint: neither will happen. I do have... A LOT of missed moments eg the month of June I captured a whooping 11 moments. I barely pay attention to when I actually get and when I don't get the notices but sometimes I do wish for redo's of missed moments. Albeit it wouldn't be in the constraints of the project design.

    **edited to add bug info**

Well, it is the notifications - sometimes there are none at all for days and days. Other times, like two/three days ago I received two notifications maybe four hours apart max six hours apart. Regardless they were in the same 24 hr period no matter how it's sliced. And just today I missed one a few hours ago and when I tapped the notification it brought me to a subscription screen - asking that I support the app that I have been supporting for over a year now. And just a minute ago I received another notification which prompted me to get this bug edit done.

Thanks for the review and for participating. Please let us know what bugs you have discovered. There shouldn't be any as far as we know
  • Great concept - very impractical 😔

I absolutely love the idea - but unless you have your phone actually on you 24/7 you don’t hear it (or feel it!) So I only have my phone near me when I go to work, and even then I have missed it! Be great if you got a 5 minute warning - but then you are missing the whole point 😀

  • Misleading Product. Not a social app.

The ads and description suggest this is a social art experiment app where once a day people all over the world connect by sharing a photo of what they’re looking at or doing. However, this app doesn’t seem to have any social features at all. It’s actually a product. The idea is you get a notification to take a “mundane” photo once a day at a random time you’re likely to miss while living live. The photos are then combined into a book with an unclear price that seems to be around a hundred dollars. The product focus of the app is only made clear after you sign up and take your first photo. It’s a niche idea but for me it wasn’t worth the ten minute set up time to learn it’s actually a product not a social art project.

Hello, Thanks for the feedback, you're correct that it doesn't have any social features such as likes, comments or profiles. I want to make it clear that we're an art project that also allows participants to order a book with all their moments at the end of each year. I don't see how that's misleading in anyway as we're making this very clear up front.
