Price Hike for a service that barely works?!

maybe they can spend the extra $1 from everyone to make a platform that operates the way it should… when i try to choose a program i have to go back and forth *hoping* it will land on what i want as one click of the remote arrow = one to five spaces moved. the app regularly kicks me out MID-EPISODE and signs me out as well so i have to go over the whole process of signing in again - sometimes several times in an evening. want to FF or REV a few seconds? good luck there too, the control is so laggy and jumpy i wind up going 10 minutes back instead then forward past where i was to begin with. really guys, it’s not worth the $7.99 you are currently charging because of the bother of actually getting around (or being allowed!) to watching anything on this horrid app. that’s my iphone AND my roku tv. and before you blame it all on my devices, as is the custom these days, know that that excuse holds no water as it is on you to keep your product functional with the current times.

Response from developer

We appreciate the feedback, BritBoxer. We strive for continuous improvement to better entertain you and all our fans! So, we’ve passed on your feedback to our leadership team. We will retain your comments for use in future decisions about the service.

A bit glitchy and basic.

Use it a lot and love the variety of shows. Quite regularly though if I have to exit mid show to another app, it crashes with an unknown error and even when I close down the app and retry many times it won’t let me continue playing. Also would love it to switch off screen automatically when inactive…if I get called away mid show, come back to a flat battery from the screen being left on.

Changed my mind

I’ve been watching a great show “Silent Witness” (absolutely amazing really) on here but I think I’m going to cancel Britbox and pay for just this show that’s how annoying I find not having PIP. This is literally the only streaming service that doesn’t have Picture in Picture and it makes zero sense. And I’ve seen comments from older reviews where they respond and say it’s “coming soon” from a while ago and still nothing. Safe to say that I think they were lying because there still is no PIP in app and I really don’t wanna wait a month or even a week really of using this app without that feature. Absolute shame because I wanted to gift this to another friend who’s into British procedurals but I think Acorn would be the better bet.

Great App, Lacking Feature Parity with Other Streaming Apps

I really enjoy BritBox and they have a great selection of material— I really enjoy their catalogue of cozy mystery shows and panel comedy series. I find it very frustrating, though, that Picture in Picture (PiP) doesn’t exist with the app. My other complaint is that pickup can be glitchy when you navigate away from the app and then return - sometimes it will buffer a bit and then pick up where you were, sometimes it will start from the beginning. Together the lack of PiP and the pickup timing are very aggravating. A less important gripe: sensitivity for playing an episode is very high, and I’ve started episodes easily by just scrolling past them, which can mess up “continue watching” for a given series.

Great Service, OK app

The content available through the Britbox service is great - we’ve identified a huge number of shows we want to watch (too many actually) and have enjoyed the content I have watched.

The app is mostly ok, it works and never gives me any serious issues (occasionally slow to render the screen when you tap into a show to see the description and episode list). My only major gripe is the lack of picture-in-picture. On a 12” iPad I have lots of screen area and generally like to do other things while watching - but I can’t with Britbox.

Thank you for your feedback - Happy that you are enjoying BritBox!

The app has a lot of usability issues

The content is good of course, but the app has many usability issues. To mention a few: * No Picture in Picture (PIP) support on iPad * Only supports one size in Stage Manager on iPad. It needs to support multiple sizes * The app itself and many of the shows take a looooong time to load * The watchlist button should be on the bottom row along side the home button (at least on iPad) * Often when I try to touch the screen and scroll, whatever show I touch the screen over launches when I am merely trying to scroll * There should be a way to filter by parental content rating (i.e. tv-14, tv-pg) * there should be an option to hide shows that have a particular rating (i.e. tv-MA)

One [long term] inconvenience

Works perfectly well except for a very flakey touch screen, which means it’s way too easy unintentionally to start an episode. This is particularly frustrating because the app quite slow, meaning you have to wait while it whirrs its way back to the Home Screen.
Two ⭐️ because this fault has been pointed several times over the last few years. Surely such an unnecessary inconvenience can’t be that hard to fix ??

AppleTV app Download Options Confusing

When trying to “get” this app on AppleTV, it would not recognize my active paid Subscription to your streaming service obtained within the AppleTV app on my AppleTV for the same AppleID. It appeared that I would have to “subscribe” again, plus pay for the app and be subject to “InAppPurchases”. Had to explain this three times to AppleCare Agents as they got confused with their own overlapping product names. When “getting” the Britbox app after previously Subscribing to BritBox on the AppleTV app on AppleTV device, it should first ask if the account holder has a paid-up Subscription to the streaming service on AppleTV APP, or better yet, recognize the fact and then state that the account holder will “get” the App Free and without “InApp Purchases”.

QOL features needed

The app is functional and stable. It’s easy to navigate and works well for the simple task of watching content. Chromecast support is extremely appreciated.
There are some features missing though, which detract from the overall experience somewhat:

- PIP support is essential for me, and is a tremendous omission. This adversely affects the experience every single time I use the app; I always want to search various things when watching… Please add PIP in the future.

- There is no way to select or restrict video quality; this is the other major omission. There needs to be a setting to prefer high resolution streams (to minimise blocky streaming on unrestricted and/or fast connections) and the inverse, an option to restrict stream quality for mobile connections. Preferably this would be settable for each WiFi & Cellular.

- Closed Captions appearance cannot be changed beyond size. The default font is somewhat too thin for comfort, and the text outline is also somewhat too minimal. Text shadow or full background colour fill are sometimes desirable as well.

Otherwise, the app can be very slow to load content pages.
