  • Never written an App review but this is necessary.

First, let me say that Breaker is my preferred podcast app. It does a lot of things really well that other apps do not HOWEVER, the issue with the app losing my place when I pause the podcast is extremely frustrating. Every time I see that there has been an update I expect this issue to be fixed and it still has not (in the year + that I've been using it). I'm deleting the app (AGAIN) because that bug is so frustrating and inconvenient (who has time to drag the time bar to find their place while driving?!) but I REALLY hope the developers fix this and soon.

  • The Best Podcast App?

Bugs and random crashes aside, this is by far my favorite podcast app yet, and for ONE main reason: It’s search capabilities! For example, if you love Howard Stern and want to listen to podcast episodes where he’s been a guest/interviewed, you just search “Howard Stern” and it will show you podcast episode titles with his name in them – even if you aren't subscribed to them! For podcast freaks like me, this is indispensable.

  • Amazing UX but with some glitches

This year I was all into Podcasts. I switched from Apple Podcasts to Overcast, and lately to Breaker. Huge change! Love the user interface and social experience and overall shows/episodes management. However, have found more than usual glitches re corrupt audio, podcast switching back several minutes while listening and trouble downloading old episodes (not while streaming) - never experienced these on aforementioned apps.

Overall, love Breaker - hope they keep improving.

  • Still some bugs occurring

I downloaded this app to move away from other podcast apps. I love the layout and UI. I would rate this app higher, but my issue is that the pause and play button is not working on any other screen (home screen, pull down, car buttons, or Apple Watch now playing screen). When I do go back to app to get the podcast going again the last time I listened before pausing is not the same for when it starts up again. It is actually very behind depending on when the error occurred it could be that I am almost done with the podcast but in the podcast it shows that I am less than half of the way through.

I apologize if I am not explaining this correctly, but it is an issue that I am continuously running into.

  • Great app, but..

i absolutely adore the idea of this app. the issue that made me give a low rating is that the support with airpods is quite bad... pausing from them only works about a quarter of the time. the podcast gets stuck in the player but keeps playing through the airpods... causing it to jump WAY back when i manually pause and play it again from the app. not sure if i’m explaining this correctly, but it’s a huge issue.

  • Worse over time

Breaker used to be my favorite podcast app. Search and subscription organization is still the best I've found and while not often used, I enjoyed the social features. But lately the bugs have been piling up to the point where I need to look somewhere else.

    - The app constantly crashes while listening.
    - I explicitly turn off WiFi when pulling up the app to avoid a massive slow-down while it attempts to download I un-listened episodes.
    - Feeds are not updated consistently. I often find podcast episodes released yesterday in my notifications.
    - The semi-recent recommendation system does not have a way to upvote downvote items leading me to be spammed with sketchy pods that I can't leave feedback on

Please, I don't need any more random features like integration with patreon. Just focus on app performance. I think all podcast apps are bad in their own particular ways, but breaker only fails on the features that matter

  • Keeps redownloading

It keeps re-downloading podcasts even though I delete them off the app. Pretty annoying. Gets slow after you subscribe to >15 shows.
  • Looks good, works poorly

Really wanted to love this app and recommended to many friends early on. Unfortunately lots of issues:
    - slow interface esp with a bigger library
    - slower podcast download speeds than other apps
    - streaming of podcast effectively doesn't work
    - recently downloaded 20 gigs of podcasts while on data (instead of WiFi) internationally even though the profile setting has this turned off (costing me $40+ and super slow speeds on google fi thereafter)
    - Bluetooth controls work inconsistently or not at all
    - app locks up on average every 20 minutes of listening
    - search doesn't work well (try searching for "b&n" for Barnes and noble podcast)
    - lock screen shows playing even when paused or vice versa
    - location is podcast is often lost forcing you to listen from an earlier point or starting over
    .... and more

  • Too buggy

    Pros:
Playback speed and smart skip functions work well.

    Cons:
Every time I try to download episodes ahead of time when I know I won't have internet access, the app will lose the episode somehow despite having finished the download already. Listening to episodes frequently crashes the app. The progress bar for the episode always freezes, so I don't know how far into the episode I am after pausing it. Social aspect is okay, minus the fact that nobody is really using it.

  • Great but has some frustrating bugs.

Great app all around. Two things that could use some more work are the search function and more bug removal. The search itself isn’t the worst but sometimes it takes almost until the last letter of a podcast title for it to find the correct one, not very intuitive. The bugs can be a bit frustrating, some of the worst ones I get are toward the end of episodes that have been in a playlist for a while, they often will loop at random intervals. Three minutes will go by then that same 3 minutes will play once more. The absolute worst however is that your progress on an episode will often get deleted. This isn’t normally a huge issue, but with shows like Hardcore History that sometimes have nearly 3 hour episodes having to routinely scrub through to find my position is aggravating.
