New update was disappointing
I loved this app. I sang its praises for years. The new update is really annoying. I sort my playlist. By priority or chronologically, all new episodes just randomly insert itself at the top. When it's a lot you have to re-sort the playlist again. And sometimes do it the playlist will go back to whatever it did before and start again. Could be worse but then it's that what a playlist for? Please fix so that new episodes go to the bottom of the list not above the old ones?
Sometimes after listening to an episode, it goes to the next one and somehow tells me that the previous episode still has time left played.
Minor niggly things that make the app more frustrating. I'm so used to the app that I've loved for years that I still wonder if I should give it anothet try….

The Best Podcast App
I have been a longtime user of Overcast, and the app continues to be one of my favorite iOS applications. It does exactly what it is supposed to do, in exactly the ways I want to be able to do it. Marco diligently works to surprise and delight. The app provides ample opportunities for customization for every podcast, and enables the user to make changes to those settings and customizations from all of the places you might be thinking about them: both the main app settings and within the individual podcast screens.
Overcast provides a fabulous listening experience, between smart speed, voice boost, extremely granular playback speed controls, and smart resume (plus the new and extremely excellent ability to "go back" when you have scrubbed to a different spot in the playback - something that endlessly frustrates me with other apps given the way playback works on iOS). Managing podcasts and subscriptions is also incredibly simple, even when those subscriptions are private/premium subscriptions.
Frankly, Overcast may be the perfect iOS app, and with the recent app re-write is positioned to continue to refine and improve itself and maintain that position on my personal list of apps indefinitely.

Still the podcast app all others should be judged by
I initially took a break from using this app when the big redesign was released a few months ago because some essential-to-me features were missing, and it was fairly buggy in my experience. Checking back in and nearly all of my outstanding issues have been resolved. Being able to disable the audio scrubber on the Lock Screen is such a great idea. Same with the new ‘go back’ feature when you change the part of an episode that is playing. Now that chapters and show notes are a single screen I find myself accidentally changing the current chapter when I was only trying to scroll past them to get to notes so the ‘go back’ button is getting used fairly often in my case. Would really love to see the developer bring back the feature where the day/time release schedules for podcasts was displaying on the podcast details screen. Would also like to see theme options be a color wheel rather than a handful of specific colors. Overall still a fantastic app and in terms of the number of hours spent listening to podcasts it provides the greatest value of any paid app on my iPhone.
