  • App freezes

The website on mobile is incredibly slow and keeps asking you if you want to view the website or get the app so I caved and got the app as the site would freeze up whenever the pop up loaded. The app also freezes- every single time I click on a job posting. It’s a bit of a bummer because on desktop, I find the job listings of the site pretty good and usually contain jobs that are actually related to my career.

  • “Something went wrong, please try again.”

I keep getting this message pop up everytime I’m in the app and it can’t find my school in search anymore. I deleted the app and re-downloaded it again and the issue persists stil.
The app was working FINE all this time and then this issue idk what’s wrong with it.

  • Fix messages and notifications!

Messages in the app are archaic - you can’t delete them, can’t flag those you want to follow up with... rendering this area useless and making it an overwhelming mess. Also, the red flag for notifications on your iPhone will go haywire- reporting unread messages with obnoxious numbers even though they’re read. The purpose of that feature in apps is to alert you to business that needs attention - very annoying that it stays there once reviewed!

  • Fantastic for Initial Searching

While handshake may not land you a job directly, the application is genuinely incredible at bringing companies and roles to your attention, and providing initial contact information for you to have the best shot at getting the position!
  • Good but missing needed features

My school uses handshake to connect students with jobs so I got the app because I’m a senior and am actively looking for jobs. The app is good but you can’t delete messages and there is no setting that allows you to only allow a certain type of messages. I keep getting messages from irrelevant jobs that have nothing to do with my major and barely require a degree. The app just needs better functionality. Otherwise, it’s a decent tool for job searching.

  • Easy for me

I can apply on my phone only because I submitted my application and resume from my computer, so al I can do is add it to their requirements and I have submitted the documents they want. All I have to do is wait for them to respond back 👌🏾
  • Internship Prefs & App Crashes

The app is okay in the idea, but the execution is not there. I dislike the fact that internships won’t specify what year in school they are looking for on the details page of the job. I have applied and then gotten turned down because I didn’t fit the graduation date requirements (as many were never openly listed). My app also keeps crashing when I try to change the job preferences. If I try to deselect the roles, the Handshake app will crash and close up. I have logged out, deleted the app, and restarted my phone a few times and it’s still doing this. Very frustrating overall and will be a bit useless if I can’t actually get it to stop crashing.

    Developer Response

Hi there! We've recently updated our mobile app that should address the issues you're having. Can you update your app with this new version and submit a ticket here: https://support.joinhandshake.com/hc/en-us/requests/new if you're still having issues? Thank you!
  • Update has broken handshake

With the recent large update to handshake it has broken the iOS release. The app looks much cleaner but there are serious issues. The web version works fine however and exhibits none of these problems. The iOS app removed the student section information I put in, but on true web version it is still there. Jobs are not refreshing on the iOS version. I see new jobs posted to web version but these do not show up on iOS version.

  • Really Good Could Be Better

I find the app helpful, and it connects me through my current college too. I would really like to see some changes though. Such as giving the option to sort by location where it’s decreasing in how far away from your current location (or where you say you live at).
  • Not very useful as the desktop

Unfortunately the app lacks a lot of stuff the desktop website includes. For example, a lot of the profile sections (such as work experience and GPA) are gone and are blank. You can’t add documents or at least view them. The mobile browser is way better than the app. I only use the app when I’m not home and try to get some applications in while I’m not busy. But unless the application only requires a resume, it’s not worth it.
