disappointing

i just received a new 770g pump and GL3 sensor after months of struggle with insurance and was super excited until i tried to set up the system and connect it to my phone, which it will not do because it does not support the current ios updates apparently. super ridiculous of medtronic to promote and recommend this product when it doesn’t even function correctly 🙄

Lazy programming staff

The new iPhone has been out for almost 3 weeks: my work forces me to upgrade every time a new one comes out, and their mundane staff did not think it would be a good idea to be proactive to update their software to support to the most popular device inthr world. I had Dexcom for years and was forced into this joke of a cgm because of insurance limitations. Medtronic is a bargain basement device at best. Shame on your incompetent programming staff.

We understand that this can be frustrating, but please know we are working as quickly and safely as possible. Like other software companies, we begin testing with a Beta version of a new OS but can only complete the development process once the final version of the software is released. Since our apps are an accessory to a medical device, they must go through a rigorous process of testing and verification, so that we can assure that the apps work as intended with your mobile device.

Constant glucose monitor

Real time data great. No 7,14,30 or 90 day average glucose data? No approximate a1c data. Have to calibrate way too often. Sometimes in the middle of the night. No real help.

The notifications mute calls

It mostly happens with Google Meet, but it has happened to some other calling apps as well, but every time I get a notification from Guardian Connect my call gets completely muted unless I call the person again or rejoin the meeting (in Google Meet's case) and it's really annoying and inconvenient to keep doing that all the time.

If I turn off Critical Notifications on the Notifications Settings, it stops the problem but then the app gets a huge splash screen that blocks half of the screen, making it pretty much unusable.

Aside from that issue, everything else's been working as it is supposed to.

I'm sorry to hear this. I'll share this with our team for review. Thanks for letting us know.

does not update fast enough with apple updates and new phones

truly I don’t have too many problems with the app itself. My sensor works great for and it has its days where the app doesn’t work perfectly, but that’s okay. What is frustrating to me is that Medtronic does not update its app quick enough with Apple releases. I got the new phone 12 pro and the app won’t work in my phone. I have been going sensor less for two weeks because of it. it’s frustrating that this app is only compatible with certain phones and IOS and is not staying up with the newest so it is compatible for all.

We certainly understand and are looking into ways to speed up the process for updates. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us.

Your product isn’t only the sensor and transmitter is the app need improve

Medtronic invest a lot in develop sensor and transmitter but this app looks developed by third party Apple overseas developers, after 1 year waiting for an update the core of problems are not fixed. Bluetooth disconnects a lot and the annoying app beeps at every hour!!! Inclusive the notifications have non sense as keep the app open when is running in background. But the worst are the iOS versions compatibility, by example I bought a iPhone SE 2020 that is in the list of supported devices, it has iOS 13.7 not runs, in my old iPhone with the same iOS version run with a warning I realize the app only supports until version 13.5.1 and the 14, but I am fear of update because the last from Apple is 14.0.2 maybe won’t run or give a warning who knows?
Medtronic if I will find another product with a better app I swear I will change, but seems that your competitor doesn’t care too its app to more than 4 months without an update.

We appreciate the feedback. Whenever possible, we recommend postponing updates to your operating system until we have confirmed compatibility. At this time, both your device and iOS version should be compatible. If you are still having trouble, please give us a call at 800.646.4633, option 1.

Bugs Lead to Losing Sensor

Ever since the app updated, I’ve had an issue where I will calibrate the sensor, and while the new calibration is loading the app will send me a message telling me to calibrate it soon. Immediately after getting that message, the app will cease calibrating and tell me it failed. I’ve also had bugs where it will tell me the second calibration failed and I need to change the sensor... on the first calibration. Furthermore, after taking the sensor out today because of that very issue, it “connected” a new sensor about 10 minutes later, while I had not yet put a new one in. As you can’t even escape the new sensor calibration screen, I had to shut the whole thing down to get it to work again.

Also, I agree with everyone saying the app notifications now mute calls.

We appreciate the feedback. We did remove the Audio Override feature and replaced it with Audio Volume Slider. If you are stll having difficulty with notification volume or sensor connection, please give our technical support team a call at 800.646.4633, option 1.

Useless

I’ve been waiting years for this. I wanted to connect my sensor to my phone. Finally the day was here that I could do it …but no. I have the latest pump and the latest sensor and I’m using an iPhone XS with latest software , but no matter what I do, the phone can’t pair with the sensor, and there’s no workaround. It just tells you to do the same thing again. So if it doesn’t pair when you first try, don’t expect it to ever work. So disappointed.

Just got off the phone with Medtronic. They explained to me that the sensor can’t pair with the phone because it is, in fact, NOT the latest sensor. Even though they continue to call it by the same name (Guardian sensor). It might confuse consumers if you call it by the same name and declare that now you can connect to IOS devices, but never explain that it requires a new transmitter! Try harder Medtronic.

I'm sorry for any confusion our naming has caused. Our Guardian Connect is a CGM only system and has the letters "GC" printed on the front. It is correct that this app is not compatible with our insulin pump systems. We hope you'll stay tuned for information about our MiniMed 770G system which does include smartphone connectivity.

Disappointed!

I , too, just upgraded my phone because this app was depleting my battery so quickly, but it doesn’t work with my new iPhone SE 2020. I was using an iPhone 6s, but had updated the operating system and noticed that the transmitter and the phone didn’t stay connected. About 5 days AFTER I had updated my operating system, I got an email telling me NOT to update my operating system. Just so disappointed! Seriously! With the speed at which operating systems are updating and technology is progressing, one would think you would have your finger on that pulse and have a crew working on this with the same fervor. Maybe Medtronic will let me return the new boxes of sensors I just got that are completely useless to me now??? Just really disappointed!

Alarms are all set at maximum volume and audio alerts won’t shut off

System works great to manage my diabetes my only complaint is the alert volumes are not controllable and are set for maximum volume. It’s very annoying to be listening to music or even a quiet moment in a movie and get blasted with a alert. I forgot to mention when the alert goes off at maximum volume it also changes the volume of whatever you were doing (music, movie...) to maximum volume for a few seconds too. Also it does not work with CarPlay, which I would consider a very smart feature to have.

Now a new issue appeared where my audio alerts are disabled in the guardian connect app but THE AUDIO OUTPUT IS NOT! The Audio Override button is switched off in the app. I’ve resorted to shutting off all notifications to silence it.
