Reliable free reader, no adds.

Great e-reader, free, no adds (yet, and I’ve been using it now for close to a year).
Most importantly, works with all my formats of documents, including comic books cbd and cbf, as well as pdfs.
Admittedly I haven’t tried it with regular books, but I’m very happy with this app.

Frustratingly still not what I need this to be

Panels 3 has iCloud sync excellent job works great for the most part. Able to connect to Komga server great job. Not able to sort library by release date. Unacceptable. I am able to do this when accessing komga from a web page. Should be able to do it here for both iCloud and OPDS servers. all I’m looking for, is for reader to be able to add a few comics to iCloud and be able to organize and read from oldest to newest. Being able to organize files by the metadata already in the comics would be ideal

Edit; after further usage perhaps I was a little harsh with my previous review and thank you for letting me vent. The reader and iCloud sync is very slick and I have come up with an alternative way of determining reading order until the metadata functionality has been added.

We don’t have support for metadata just yet. But its on the roadmap. Maybe the rating is a bit unfair. We would appreciate if you reconsider it.

Great app, when the reader isn’t bugging out…

I’ve been a big fan of this app. It’s one of the few iPhone supported readers. It’s got a steady flow of new features, some of which I’ve requested before in prior reviews! This made me buy panels 2 easily, with version 3 being strongly considered. Unfortunately, I’ve held off because of a glaring issue: The Reader portion of the app constantly has bugs. When I first used the app, it had an issue where it would jump back 2 pages for no reason. Then they had to fix a rotation bug, after that a memory leak; and now finally there’s a new issue where vertical scroll just gets stuck and you have to bring up the page scrubber and tap the page to reset it and continue scrolling. I’ve emailed support about this issue but it has yet to answered at all. The issue has really frustrated my while reading from my OPDS server. I would love if the reader could be refactored because it is far too fragile for a core component of the application.

I was trying to self host my own manga server using Jellyfin and once I got it working, I noticed that manga wouldn’t load to my phone using my reverse proxy. After many hours of troubleshooting, I downloaded Panels after reviewing some Reddit threads and figured it was worth a shot. I was a previous user of Chunky (another manga app that has been deleted I believe) and loved the OneDrive connection capability. I couldn’t find an app I liked since Chunky. Panels has easily taken that spot. I look forward to getting my Jellyfin server running and working properly but I think I’ll try the SMB connection first on Panel. If you are curious and want to try it out for a month, I’d say it’s worth the $2. At the moment, I’d probably pay the one time cost for a total unlock of the app just because of the convenience alone.

Possibly good

Price doesn’t seem to reflect what I would use it for. Might be better then just using safari to access my own server but safari is free to access self hosted media.
