Writing needs to be gone

Want to like this app but it suffers from something many apps suffer from. It wants me to draw a k in Russian. I do this. Yet it won’t accept it. You need to either have a bypass in which I override you and say it’s done, period, move on or have something which allows me to remove a section of your lessons, such as writing. I need to be able to say, I don’t care about part, do not include it period. Why? Because I’m right and you’re wasting my time because your app doesn’t see that I wrote the character well enough to move on. You instead make this a trap that the user gets stuck in. We need to just move on.

The app feels sluggish. And I’m on an iPhone 14 Pro Max. Come on.

I pronounced the word стоит again, good enough. Need to say, move on. My answer is good enough.

You need to be able to save the current text as a card in photos. That way I can read it later or use it with CHATGPT.

If this what you still can’t get right after 4 years, you’ll never get it right in 4 more. I doubt any improvement like I mentioned will occur in a timely manner.

Glitch

Hi guys. I’m planning to go Thailand soon and am trying to learn more Thai. However, there’s a bug or glitch in the app that doesn’t allow me to scroll down when I’m learning a lesson and it requires me to select an answer out of multiple options. Any way to fix this? Thanks!

Response from developer

Hi! Thanks for learning Thai with Ling. I am happy to hear that you are enjoying the process of learning a new language with us, even though you are experiencing a known bug. Please try to delete the app and reinstall it, so that you can force the App Store to give you the most recent version of Ling. If that doesn't work, try our "universal" app by Googling Ling App App Store, as that will have our most recent software available. If you have any suggestions or questions, email me anytime at support@ling-app.com, and we will get back to you within 24 hours. Cheers! Nick

Works for the first few modules

Starts out fine, you think wow, this works. And then as you progress and you start to see how one third of the “functionality” doesn’t function, and then they release a flashy new upgrade that is even worse. Avoid.

**The company released an update that is unusable on iPhone. They are well aware of this and refuse to refund or roll back. DO NOT BUY.

Hi! Thanks for writing a review of Ling, even if I wish that you had had a better experience with us. I would love to hear more details about what happened to try to help you in any way possible. Please email me as soon as possible at support@ling-app.com. Cheers! Nick

What happened to the sentences?

I just got the latest update. What happened to the sentences??? They should have never been a part of the grammar, but they should be included in the review. The vocab and dialogue is not enough. Need the sentences that used the vocab like the previous version.

Overall, I am very disappointed i with this app. The vocabulary given to learn, and the order doesn’t make sense to me. Why are we learning how to say German, Germany, Japan, Japanese, etc in the first lesson??? It is maddening how many lessons you have to go through to learn the word for today.

Many times words are presented as new vocab, when they were already used in previous lessons.

The review is very bad. Needs some sort of flash card UI. In the least, the English and Thai words should be separated. You don’t need pictures in the review. The point of the review is to try and memorize the words. Hard to practice when the English and Thai words are side by side.

Why can’t I, as a paying customer, use the app offline. Not being able to practice on a 15 hour flight is a bad user experience.

All in all, this is perhaps the best app for learning Thai, but it’s not very good.

Please work on improving it. It has gotten visually better in the last few updates. I’m counting on you. 🥺

Highly recommended

The only good comprehensive Thai language learning app I’ve found. Native Thai from the ground up, not fitting the language into an existing format.

Unstable

Offline warnings non stop. Doesn’t stay signed in. Good process for learning. But fix the connection issues.

Response from developer

Hi There, Thank you for the review and the kind words, it's great to hear that you enjoy how Ling teaches you languages The app requires a constant internet connection to stay active. If you could please mail me at support@ling-app.com I can investigate this issue further with you as I would love to help resolve it. Hoping to hear from you soon. Cheers, Rob!

Great so far!

I find it very beautiful for many people here to find study material for less “famous” languages
Came here to learn Thai, I find it very helpful with others apps for more reading, learning alphabet or simply translate things. Base for all of those.
I also starting Norwegian and I can see the same pattern of learning, don’t know yet if that’s gonna help or get my mind more messy than already with other three fluent languages. We’ll see! Thank you for this app :)

Language setting

Traditional Chinese (Mandarin) is used in Taiwan and Taiwan is not part of China. The app wrongly put the flag of China in front of traditional Chinese.

Response from developer

Hi Sanjio! Thank you for taking the time to write a review even though we wish we had received a higher rating. You're right, Mandarin is the most widely spoken Chinese dialect and is used across various regions, including mainland China, Taiwan, and Singapore. The written form of Mandarin can be in either Traditional or Simplified Chinese characters, depending on the region: Simplified Chinese is used in mainland China and Singapore while Traditional Chinese is used in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. I have brought the case with the Traditional Chinese course flag to my development team's attention. If you find anything else wrong, I'd love to hear from you at support@ling-app.com. Cheers! Nick

AI learning could be introduced but very good customer service

It’s good enough, it lets you speak, write as well.
However, we only learn what’s in it, and not focused on the questions I got wrong etc (like how Duolingo does), so this could be a good improvement if they could introduce AI into this app.

The reason why I dedided to leave a comment is, when I updated the app, it was reset, and although I’m a prescriber, I couldn’t access more than lesson 1, which is free.
I contacted the customer centre, I didn’t have to wait for even 12hrs to get a reply, they adjusted it so it was linked again.
What a smooth help I received!
Thanks Rob from the support centre :)

Response from developer

Hi Seata, Thank you for your thoughtful feedback and kind words! Your suggestion about introducing AI to focus on areas that need improvement is fantastic. We've discussed incorporating AI into the app and believe it's a promising direction. However, we want to ensure that any AI implementation is done correctly and ethically to enhance your learning experience without compromising quality or privacy. Regarding the issue you experienced after updating the app, I'm glad I could resolve it quickly for you. If you have any further suggestions or need assistance, please feel free to reach out. Thanks again for your feedback and support! Cheers! Rob
