Stopped playing at level 4 👎🏻
I much preferred the first Alphabears game. What annoys me about this second one and why I stopped playing it is that they disallow you from bingeing on the game. You can kind of binge for the first few levels, but they’ve created ways to slow and stop your progress starting at level 4 so it takes much longer for you to get through it. It’s probably a financial reason, so they get more longevity (ad views and such) out of each player or something like that. But I went from super excited to frustrated to “meh, never mind.” I don’t have the desire to check in on a game daily for months so I can play the few boards they dole out that day. I even looked at purchasing the game ($10 ain’t cheap) but you still can’t binge—no infinite honey. So why the heck would I buy the game??? I’ll be honest, I’m bummed—I was looking forward to this. But I’ve deleted it off my phone and iPad because it feels like an obligation—one more task I have to do for the day. And when I do want to sit down and do something mindless for a few hours, I get to play a handful of boards and I’m forced to be done. Lame. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

Good F2P Game
Though this game has some of the typical F2P elements, like an energy system, it has many opportunities within the game to obtain the same currencies obtainable via real, hard cash.
Plus, it doesn’t force advertisements onto you; rather, adverts serve as one potential opportunity for added rates on obtaining rare bears, or giving more currency.
The core gameplay loop is also quite enjoyable thus far (Chapter 3).

Best game ever but with one problem
I love this game and it is literally the best game I have ever played but the big problem is IT TAKES TOO LONG TO GET HONEY. I love this game but unfortunately can’t play it very often as the honey takes to long to generate. I would recommend either of 3 things: honey takes less time to generate, missions cost less honey, or some small mini game or something to earn honey. Just not so that it’s too easy and just pointless. I know this is a very long review but I just wanted to get my point across. Please read!

Prefer the original
“Normal” made is far too easy. Dislike that bears don’t level up as part of regular play - have to level them up in “school”. Lots of unnecessary fluff. Find the story aspect annoying - it seems to have a story for stories sake, ie the story doesn’t match the game (how does spelling words help mend time?), not to mention the story isn’t even original. The only thing I can say I like about Alphabear 2 is that it’s “pretty”, & some of the bears have cool abilities. Deleting this & going back to the original Alphabear.

Well designed and a relaxing challenge. :)
If you’re a fan of word puzzles/games, and have a broad vocabulary, you’ll probably enjoy Alphabear. It’s got a well-designed user interface, uses multiple dictionaries to check your answers (which means that slang terms you use may be recognized as correct), and it won’t cost you an arm and a leg to play. Ads do play in the free version, but game play itself isn’t interrupted by the ads. They play between rounds, and you can opt to watch extra ads for bonuses.
There are both timed and untimed challenges. Time provided is generous and there are several ways to extend the time provided in timed challenges. All in all, it’s a good game!

Ok game. Offline mode sucks.
The game itself plays pretty good, but if you are offline for more than 24 hours, the game is disabled completely, stating that it needs to talk to the internet at least once a day. This can be super annoying if you don’t always have internet access, like if you want to play at the cabin, on a road trip, or while camping. I personally play in offline mode to preserve battery life, and being forced to connect to the internet (most likely to play an ad) is not something I want to do. I played through the first chapter and a half before uninstalling.

Unlimited honey please
I much prefer Alphabear 1 as you can purchase infinite honey. At least when I run out of honey for this game I get off my iPad and do other things. Other than this I am enjoying the game.
Good, but my progress disappeared
This game is really fun and cute but... I just opened it and it’s forgotten half my progress?? Sad I have to repeat so many levels and build up the collectibles again, since they’ve disappeared too. If there’s some way you have to actively save the game it needs to be clearer!
Great word game.
Very high quality, beautiful art and well written. Recommended.
Incredible
This is one of the most highly polished and feature rich games on the iOS store. This game is free, which is ridiculous as there’s no intrusive ads or forced video watching. Instead they gamify the ad experience with some hilariously meta commentary that has me actually watching ads because I want to contribute to “TV time!” I’m going to “purchase” this game (disabling ads is a little steep at $9.99) but I want to really help this developer be successful. It’s great to learn new words too, which this game has helped me do.
The only negative I’ve found so far is that with someone who has a larger (more verbose!) vocabulary, the game doesn’t really reward you for going way above the required score at the beginning. I’ll sometimes end up with a few thousand points over the limit and a fully completed tile (the largest “biggest bear award”) but I don’t really get rewarded for it aside from some cloth. Would be nice to have the game acknowledge more power players in the early stages and perhaps unlock the medium and difficult modes a little earlier (I’m still on easy as I haven’t progressed to the later chapters yet despite nearly always acing each stage).
Aside from that—this is one of the best and most polished apps on the iOS store and I'm very happy to support it!
