  • Bug Fix & Feature Request

Love this App!! It’s exactly what I need and my files belong to me…unlike with many other Notetaking apps.

That said, there’s a bug that’s been going on for months; changing from day to night mode. It just doesn’t do it without lots of flipping between notes. There’s helpful ways you could fix it. First is to change the text to background ratio to a higher contrast color pairing so I could at least read my notes until the app decides to swap color modes. The second half of the fix is to fix the bug so the app will swap efficiently at the correct time.

My feature request is OCR and some integrations. It would be incredibly helpful to not have to cobble OCR before dropping something into Agenda. Frankly, it would make this app nearly perfect. Perfection would be one click integrations with Readwise, Instapaper, Google Drive, Perplexity, Wordpress, Scrivener and Notebook LM. These apps aren’t as popular as many tools, but they are workhorses that writers find ideal and crucial to creating content. There’s no tension in their use, as is true with Agenda…and I own my files in each of these other apps. That’s crucial for writers. I can’t have an app holding my writing hostage, which is why I love Agenda. Especially since it has productivity features with Reminders!

    Thanks folks!

  • Love it but slow syncing

Absolutely love the app functionality but it seems to take a while to sync across devices.

Today I made some changes on my Mac. It’s been at least 15 minutes and the changes haven’t appeared on my iPad after opening the app. My iPhone was much quicker about syncing. There’s no background app refresh syncing so won’t start until I open the app.

This makes the widget pretty much useless since it won’t automatically update. This normally isn’t an issue since I’m normally creating notes on my phone but when I move to any other device, this shortcoming becomes much more apparent.

Speaking of widgets, I would love a large one with relevant notes that shows not just the titles but also some of the content of the note itself.

Great job with the subscription model that lets you keep features. It definitely creates an incentive to subscribe at a later date without the fear of losing current functionality

  • Brilliant Powerhouse In Place of the Calendar Note field

I have always used the note field of calendar entries in Outlook and iCal to keep items that I want to cover in a meeting or critical info for an appointment. The trouble is, this gets a bit buried and is very limited. Agenda adds this capability and much more with every version release. Some use Agenda for note taking, but I use Devonthink and Typora for that, with Agenda filling this wonderful spot of being my ‘agenda’ for meetings. Great app and the free version will even meet most people’s needs. Five stars!

  • Seriously lacking a key functionality

This app needs templates for projects. It has templates for notes which for me is useless but templates for projects would be priceless. The first request for this functionality on the devs website for Agenda was in 2018 and several others followed. All such requests have been commented on by several users stating how much they desire this functionality. Based on how nice this app looks & functions (this one critical issue aside), I doubt that it can’t be done and I don’t understand why it hasn’t with so many requests. This app is not cheap. I use it for several tasks but one is for planning woodworking projects. I have a project I would like to use as a template as I have notes within it that apply to all of my woodworking projects (Materials, cut list, joinery by part, machining by part, assembly instructions/order). For each project, each note is different (thus a template for notes to me is useless) but I need the same notes in each project (thus the need for templates for projects). I understand not all requests for update can be done or are feasible (I think this can be done and is feasible) but what is frustrating is the number of customers requesting the functionality and it not being implemented in the 4+ years since it was first requested.

    Developer Response

Frankly, I would not call project templates “key functionality”. I would estimate probably less than 5% of our customers would have much interest in it. I understand that if it is a feature you yourself would like, it is frustrating, but we have to choose between many projects, and decide what to tackle next. We introduced the app in 2018. Within about a month we had heard virtually all possible feature requests — all of them. It is rare now that we hear a new request. Each year we choose a bunch to implement, and so it goes. That is how every software company works. It is simply not the case that building a feature is as easy as asking for it. The good news is that now that templates are setup, we are thinking about how to make groups of them, so you could make a new project. This is a continuous process. First we needed to be able to make note templates. Now we can build on that to see if we can offer some grouping options.
  • A real agenda

This thing actually works like an agenda. It’s not just a calendar but it combines the power of reminders, notes and all sorts of other powerful stuff. Did I mention that the search engine rocks, the interface is very well thought out considering how many features there are and that the developers seem lovely?

For some people this may be overwhelming but for me it is absolutely awesome. I can just shove everything into what feels like a good old notebook. And then search for it, or browse it chronologically.

  • The best native app for journaling!

Agenda is not just another note-taking app. It’s a purpose-built journaling app for people who go places, meet people, and get things done. In Agenda, dates, events, and people are first-class concepts (meaning the app understands and integrates with them). Its lightweight note “card” format is very practical for day journaling vs. the classic “document” style format. Cards can collapsed and expanded, marked as active, completed, or even split and merged. Keep up the great work Agenda team, this app is one of my favorites!

  • Does not follow Privacy practices

Update: I swear there are only 2 apps on my phone that have asked for calendar access, and neither one was Agenda. But maybe it is an Apple problem, maybe Settings/Privacy doesn’t update immediately, maybe it takes awhile. And I have removed the app now so I can’t check. Sorry if I jumped the gun.

I installed this app and it asked for access to my calendar. I permitted it and when I saw it brought up all the calendars shared with me, I wanted to rescind that decision. But when I went into Settings to turn sharing off, it was not listed as an app that had requested access to my Calendars! Bad behavior

  • Notebook and Daily Planner had a child.

I love Agenda because not only does it have all of the appropriate features to be a Daily Planner…such as adding events or written plans to your calendar, sync feature with your other calendars, sorting by date—but it also has the proper features for a notebook. The ability to have Headings, paragraph formatting, lists or outlines, and tagging keywords or topics for school. I like the category feature…I can sort by category and subcategory which I love. Suggestions: more personalization options such as colored font and other fun features! But I love Agenda, thank you!

  • Lovin’ it

I downloaded Agenda a while back, played with it for a little and thought: this is really great, I just wish it fit my needs. I took another look tonight and decided my earlier self had it all wrong. I came back to look at Agenda because it’s beautiful. I spent longer looking at the capabilities and realized I hadn’t spent near enough time with the app earlier. I could say I’m impressed, but the truth is, I’m excited about using it. I did buy the premium features and I think it represents a good value. But the real kicker—the thing that let me know I had made the right decision, was the music that plays when you get the premium features—literally felt like a party. Awesome job, guys. Don’t ever take that music away! Thanks for a great app!

  • The simplicity is incredible

I’m coming from Awesome Note. I’ve used it since the iPhone 1. It’s great, but it lacks work flow capabilities. Agenda slipped right in and was perfect! Just the right amount of things you need. Nothing extra, nothing fancy. The syncing isn’t something I even think about. It’s. Just. Amazing. My only request to the developers is maybe adding swipe to delete notes in projects instead of dragging over to the trash can. It makes single hand use a little difficult.
