Change it back

This app is so good, it’s easy to use and can learn very quickly but you updated it and changed the structure and order of teaching and for a beginner it would be confusing and not make much sense.
Lesson 1 should start with these vouls again 이 μ•„ μ–΄ 으 였 우 and then add the consonants from there on
Not have it half way through..
I would give 5 stars review if you hadn’t changed it..
Please! You really need to change it back.

Response from developer

Sorry for this issue! Please try updating the app to version 1.3.2 and let me know if any issues remain. Edit: did that fix it?

My review

After I do the pronunciation of basic characters I can’t get to the next one.

Bug?

Did first two lessons, then as further lessons were locked i purchased full access to the rest of the lessons, only to find out that cannot get past the first letter of the 3rd lesson due to a bug. So brilliant , full access is no access? Annoying

Handy!

I had no idea where to start, so this app really helped me learn the basics of the basics when it comes to the alphabet, writing, typing and remembering letter combinations. You can simply tap on any lesson to repeat it as many times as you want, which is what I did. I repeated each lesson over and over again until I could simply breeze through without having to think. Well worth the price to access the full app, in my opinion, especially for beginners. Recommended to two other friends who also found it super useful. πŸ’•

my honest opinion

It’s a very good app only if you have full access otherwise you can only unlock certain lessons

Not recommended

The app uses inconsistent romanization and crappy computerized pronunciation audio, making it impossible to actually learn how the Hangul syllables should be romanized or pronounced. It doesn’t explain any of the rules around voiced and unvoiced consonants, aspiration, consonant doubling, or pronunciation changes in final consonants - the hard parts of learning Hangul. Sections 2 and 3, on final consonants and vowel combinations, have their labels swapped. The writing exercises sometimes reject correct input for no discernible reason. The timing of the spaced repetition system is not explained anywhere, so you just have to guess when new reviews are coming up. If a character is incorrectly recognized as correct, there is no way to mark it wrong. The exercises include pretending to input Hangul on a keyboard, but the app highlights the correct keyboard buttons, so you don’t have to actually internalize how a Hangul keyboard is laid out. Most of the multiple choice questions do not require you to decipher the entire Hangul syllable - they can be answered if you know only the initial consonant of the syllable. In conclusion: useless!

Response from developer

Thank you for your feedback! The audio files have been updated and the level descriptions have been fixed in the most recent update. The keyboard quizzes highlight the key to hit the first time you see it but after that they are not highlighted so that you need to pick them by memory. If you miss a key it will highlight it as a reminder. I am working on adding instructions for voices/unvoiced etc which will be out soon. I will add a description for the SRS system. That’s a good idea. I will work on making the multiple choice options trickier.

Very good app wish it would unlock sooner

This app is very good for learning write Korean however if i practise at night and then the next morning i’m not able to continue unless i pay

Very good, needs tweaking

I’m learning Hangul for the first time, having already studied Japanese and Chinese writing systems, which helps understand things like stroke order, etc. This app does a good job of starting with simple characters and character combinations, and slowly building on that base. One thing that needs improvement is the audio prompts which seem to too brief and/or abruptly cut off. Also, as a non-native learner, there are sounds that sound exactly alike. It would be good to be able to create customized pairings in order to compare what sounds similar to the user, and thus be able to review them. Lastly, the app only teaches the characters in isolation, and not in word context. It would be awesome if some of the review options could be common words or place names. Otherwise, thus is a great app for motivated beginners.
