First-class product for Simplified Mandarin Chinese

To learn to read and write Mandarin Chinese (Simplified), including listening and repeating the proper pronunciation of the characters, bigrams etc., the key is to do it every day, vary the exercises as much as possible and practice, practice, practice. Scripts, a logical “by-product” of the developers’ wonderful Drops app, succeeds in keeping you focused, with solid material and well-managed repetitions.

The graphics are clean, beautiful to look at, and efficient for memorization. The app is a pleasure to use.

When paired with other tools to maintain and increase your knowledge of Mandarin Chinese, I highly recommend the user puts “Scripts” on a daily reminder.

This is a classy product I hope will be around for ever! Thank you!

Some of the tones spoken don’t seem to match the written tone

It’s more frequent in their other app Drops. If I could hear it in a couple different ways, or hear it in a sentence, it would help distinguish what’s just someone’s voice and what’s the correct pronunciation. Also, I have romanization turned on not just the adaptive, so it should be giving me the proper written tone; I’d like to not sound like an idiot if I try to say “cao” to say grass and actually heard “cào” when I was learning it (something you don’t want to say.) That isn’t really the word for grass anyway and it’d be nice if that was clarified since some of the radicals are and some aren’t. It’s teaching you from nothing which is nice, but it would be helpful if the app explained what radicals are and how their meanings change. I dunno, I’ve only used it three days so maybe there’s a master plan I don’t understand. I’ll update this review when I get more information/ the audible portion is updated to be more varied and more like the speech I’m used to hearing.

Best Language app right now

So I was given a challenge by my friends to try this app. I speak fluent Chinese so they wanted me to authenticate it. When i tried it it was great. You don’t even need to sign up for anything to. It starts you off at the basics and then progressively gets more harder. I also like how they teach you how to write the Kangxi. That is the one part of these apps that they miss out on. Speaking is one part and then writing and understanding what it says is the other. Great app would recommend to anyone looking to learn Chinese or any other language for that matter.

Fun and Functional

Very nifty! I’m learning Japanese, and was looking for an app that would let me practice writing the characters. The app is very responsive and drawing the characters out is smooth and buttery.

I really like how it alternates between the guided practice (which is where it has you trace out the character along the guidelines and makes it pretty), and freehanding, where it shows where your own strokes would have fit within the lines.

Great

Fun and easy to use.

Very excited to explore this further

Beautiful app. The progressions to learn each character are very well thought out, great work folks.

As an English speaker

As an english speaker it is very important to learn the alphabet of your target language. We do not have an alphabet where every letter is the same sound and never changes. I love the way scripts teaches! Not only does it have japanese, my target language, it also has Korean and Chinese which I decided I might as well learn. I hope to get there and Scripts is definitely going to help! 5/5

Very slow so great for beginners

And you can skip the letters you already know

I don’t recommend this if you took it in a class and already know how to write the letters. Then it gets boring. Otherwise it’s great!

Also it’s only 5 minutes so you can do it whenever and you have enforced breaks. Can be a good thing, especially if you’re busy and prone to procrastination. I recommend it.

I HaVe To pAY??

I downloaded the app because I thought it would be a good way to help me learn the Korean symbols. It really helped me in those 5 minutes. And I was like “ Wow- this is so cool! I can it will really help me!” But when I found out you have to pay I was like- ohhhhhh it’s one of THOSE apps. Like other than Duolingo you have to pay for everything. I was just so excited that this was the one- then it wasn’t. I still like the app, other than waiting 10 hours for my next five minutes smh. I just wish it was free since this app really does help me.😪

Nice

I’ve been learning korean for a while and my handwriting has been atrocious but scripts makes it a bit easier even though you can get it on drops (but I want my 5 minutes on each so..).
