  • Really hit and miss

Have tried over 100 scores now, all of them imported scores that were made using Sibelius. Most of The scores are 1 instrument, bass guitar, very simple for the most part. Every single one has been a failure. Missing out entire rows of bars, getting notes wrong, rhythms wrong and fluctuating in tempo. I have tried various other scores as well, all of them are clean pdfs that have been created using Sibelius or similar. String quartets, piano etc. This app does not work.

Using an iPad Pro 3rd gen.

This is not most peoples' experience. PlayScore 2 is very accurate with Sibelius scores as long as they are in high resolution. Could that be the problem? Would you be kind enough to send us one so we can spot the problem? We feel sure we can resolve whatever the problem is. Thanks support@playscore.co
  • very good app

I could rely on this app to quickly read my sheet music when I needed and it was, as well, surprisingly accurate. It could read my sheets from photograph and play it back to me. There were some sharp notes it did not read but this was still really good when you think about it. Either way, this app was very smart and i’m so happy I found it when I did.

PlayScore 2 should not miss sharps. Try more light, flatter page. Always photo from centre so you get a square image. Thanks for your review. Support@playscore.co
  • Very effective overall

A great app. Great for quick scanning of sheet music for practice .
Does a surprisingly accurate job. Improvements could be better recognition of in line clef changes and also the ability to have a count in when you are using to play. Maybe the ability to manual set clefs / dynamics in the score would be good. Impressed though so far!

Many thanks. You can adjust dynamic range in the control panel. You can set it anywhere between full and none at all. Support@playscore.co
  • Great but...

I enjoy the app a lot and as a teacher it helps students when they need to learn parts quickly. Unfortunately sometimes when you take a picture of the sheet music is will quickly read and skip the first staffs of the page and read the second or vice versa. I try to retake the image multiple times but it still does not work properly. Even with the light perfect or making sure it’s on a flat even surface. Any suggestions? Otherwise, I love this application. If those get fixed I would gladly give it a 5 star.

  • Very good app for piano accompaniments

I teach at a musical theater school and some of the piano accompaniments go beyond my playing skills. This app did a pretty good job of scanning the scores for playback. It sometimes missed ties so I had to make corrections but it definitely saved me having to put the whole thing into Finale. It did less well when I tried to scan choral music of 4 or more parts because I had to go back and fix too things. So if the accuracy of the notation is important it’s less reliable, but it’s great for making audio files.

  • Odd.

Now, this app is fine. Just fine. It can actually scan sheet music (I’m impressed) however it doesn’t do it very well. For example instead of having the Treble and Bass clef play at the same time it just makes it do a line of Treble clef, then a line of Bass clef. And since the piece I’m trying to scan sometimes has notes in the Bass clef play first you just get a weird silent space between notes in Treble clef. Also, it completely misses a bunch of notes. I don’t really know why, as the lighting is even throughout the picture and none of the notes are faded or anything. The angle’s also fine. So I don’t really understand, why is it missing notes? But anyway, yeah. I really don’t want to be rude but it just doesn’t work well. Have a great day ✌️

You probably have shadow over the left edge so that PlayScore can't see the line joining the staves. Look at the examples - your pictures should look like that. Tap the '?' And then the camera button. Then review the help screens on taking close-up pictures of music. If you follow the instructions will play any music correctly. Always pleased to help support@playscore.co.
  • 3 stars

I just scanned in an entire book of fiddle tunes. Most of the songs are 16 measures, repeating each 8 bars. I’ve not looked at all 400 songs, but of the dozens I’ve perused, it rarely catches the repeat, drops a few notes in almost every scan, occasionally drops an entire measure, inserts repeats where there are none, and does not capture the chord symbols. OCR is difficult, but I expected OMR to be an easier task. Still, it probably saved me some time over entering notes, although not even sure of that because it is necessary to so closely examine each scan.

  • Great App

It really helped with my music, being able to listen to what the music should send like really helped me.
  • Where has this been my whole life?

Holy moly this app is slick! Just snap a photo and then it will play the sheet music. It’s not 100% accurate, but it is pretty dang, darn good!!! I can’t believe it’s free. I’d pay $20 for this thing. I’ve been looking for something like this for the past...20 years. I tried other ORC notation software that sucked, bigly. In fact, all of it has been pretty rubbish. This only messed up part of one measure in two pages of music, the rest was 100% accurate, and even had dynamics. Plus you can slow it down to play along and work on intonation and perfect rhythm. Simply amazing!

  • Almost 100% perfect!

This app, is perfect for my needs (amateur choir) to get the music and practise a specific part. The play line really helps for practising phrasing and you get the benefit of having the lyrics, which you wouldn’t get if you export to a musicxml app.

It has been accurate in reading the notes, which is amazing it has also saved me hours and hours compared with the last app which I needed to capture a page, export it into MuseScore to join the pages (and the musescore mobile app seems to want a subscription to play it back). I also tried using musescore’s pdf scanner which you have to wait for (it does it on the website) and it had a lot of mistakes, and that was from a scan instead of a photo, with this app I am finding no errors from scans and very few from phone camera (usually my fault with lighting)

It is well worth reading the how to use page on their web site (which didn’t do initially), sometimes there may be a problem with a poor image and the web site tells you how to deal with it.

The app developer is amazingly responsive and when you couple that with how inexpensive it is for a year it is pretty incredible. I probably didn’t need the £14 version as since I have got this I don’t need to export to midi of musicxml, but it is still great value.

I have had the odd quirk, but the app developer is so responsive that I am sure the app will get better and better rapidly.

It gets the job done and its pretty amazing how it can read everything..
