  • Does not work properly at all!

Maybe this app can recognize and properly create a midi file from a simple 4/4 song. But i tried to create midi files to two different pieces that were complex, with changing meters. The song also began with a pickup note, and that seemed to confuse this app, too. Didnt help me at all because the midi files sounded terrible when i opened them in my daw. I only spent $6.49, so i didnt waste a lot of money, but the worst part is that my email to tech support remains unanswered 3-4 days after i sent it and attached a pdf of the music, like they suggest. They promise a turnaround time/response that’s sometimes even quicker than 48 hours. No response. Unfortunately, i have experienced total failure with everything this app promises on every possible level.

Please see your email. We cannot trace an email from you with a pdf. We would be happy to look if you would send it. PlayScore handles time/clef/key changes, Grace notes, anacruses etc. the most likely cause is that the original resolution has been loose during image conversion; but we can see when we get your music. PlayScore expects around 300DPI
  • Absolutely Love It

Scanning through all my loose sheet music that got mixed up so that I can Re-Organize them in proper order.

    Loving the app.

  • Helpful developer

After searching around for a while, Play Score2 stood out from the crowd. A few issues such as not recognising multibar rests and sometimes a bar will play faster than it should. As a clarinet player it was good to be able to hear other instruments, clarinet in App sounds a tad too synthesiser for my liking, especially in upper register. Emails to developer are quickly answered. Helpfully community feedback will be taken onboard as this has potential to be an even better App. It is pricier than competition but seems worth it, an free version can be used by most.

Thanks! Please see the troubleshooting section if mistakes. Because you play a transposing instrument you will need to turn on auto-transposition when playing accompanied music. Support@organumconsulting.com
  • Great for practising new pieces

Works pretty well using good scans or images, following most time signature changes. (Even worked moderately well on a grainy image with bad trapezoidal distortion.) with good scans, there are no problems with multiple parts on different staves, can split parts on the same stave except unison parts are only given to the highest part if the tails are not doubled (up/down) and both parts share the same midi voice.
Animation is great - follows the bars, but unsurprisingly assumes the beats in a bar are equally spaced on the score.

Support was overnight and very helpful. (Pro version at least)

Some problems can be fixed by simple pdf edits -e.g deleting an expression symbol mis-interpreted as 8va.

More choices for the metronome function would be useful, e.g at twice, 3 or 4 times the time signature, with emphasis on the whole beats and it’s own volume control.

You can change the metronome volume. App should follow uneven bars. Try sampling slider to fix any errors. Thanks for reviewing. Support@organumconsulting.com
  • The best. Worth the money

I’ve tried many different music score scanners and this is the only one that I have found that does what it says it does. Complex, multi-page, multi-staff choral and instrumental scores are converted into music xml files in a jiffy, which I can then import into my Finale software to produce computer readable scores (and audio files).

  • Excellent. Some issues.

I’m using version 3.1 on an iPad Pro (iPadOS 16.4.1) for learning the drums. I signed up for the Professional subscription for one month.

I import a clear 2-page PDF file of drum music (drum clef) from iCloud. The notes on the staff are for snare, bass drum, tom and high-hat.

    A few things:
    - When adjusting the playback speed slider, the sound gets adjusted, but the moving red cursor line seems to be out of sync and way ahead of the sound
    - Sometimes, for multiple bars that have even just a single drum (eg. snare) in the bar (eighth notes), a tom or bass drum is heard, even though it’s not in the score.
    - Sometimes, if two drum note are to be played simultaneously in the score (ex. snare and bass), one doesn’t get played.

    Otherwise, very good.

  • Worth every penny!

If you work with a lot of sheet music, and especially if you use XML/MIDI files, this app is excellent. Perfect for singers + musicians who need to learn music but aren’t great with sight reading, or just need to hear a quick melody line, and perfect for anyone who edits sheet music on Sibelius/Musescore etc. I’d recommend it to anyone!!

  • So good

I lost the first page of my music piece and didn’t know what piece it was. Thanks to this app, I was able to find out the song name!! It’s super user friendly to use and accurate.

  • Don’t use it to learn

The UI is utterly confusing for a person who just got put in a musical and downloaded the app because they can’t read sheet music. I’m trying to learn my ensemble parts and the app will randomly speed up certain notes, skip notes, etc. and I assume it’s because of poor image quality, but that comes at the fault of the app. I take a picture on my phone and it comes out clear as day, but taking a picture on this app pixelates everything, and even when it’s comprehensible, it’s making the music sound cluttered and distorted because it’s not reading it correctly. As a test, I used it on Karen’s introductory part in mean girls. It couldn’t even get that right. It’s an impressive, cute little thing, but it doesn’t do its task.

please stand the music up and take the picture with the camera right in the middle of the page. Use lots of light and unsure sharp focus. Results depend entirely on the photo. With a square-on well lit and sharp photo filling most of the screen results will be accurate for printed music. Support@organumconsulting.com
