Absolutely worthwhile prioritising your time to work through book summaries that’s provides insights to topics that can grow your knowledge base. Quite inspiring. An awesome way to get the gist of books and discovering ones actually worth reading in full. Well done Headway in getting me to invest in myself.

Decent choice of books, poor usability

Despite the good number of book summaries and generally understandable content, the app still has significant areas in need of improvement. One major issue is its inability to sync across all devices, leading to a frustrating series of parallel flows. Additionally, while the app is accessible on the iPad, it does not function correctly; users can read content, but they are unable to share highlights or save their progress for continuation on another device. Furthermore, the customer service experience is exceptionally disappointing. Responses are often generic and seem to lack any personal touch. Even with a premium subscription, it felt as though I had to prove my status as a legitimate customer, which is quite frustrating. The only reason I'm giving the app three stars is my desire to continue supporting Ukrainian-related businesses.

Terrible

Advertisement for this app is terrible. I wanted to find out what I was getting into first to see if I actually wanted to pay for this app. I got charged for an infographics aswell as a monthly subscription. After pressing the button ‘add infographics’ I thought it would take me to a page that told me more about it but it charged me and took money straight out of my account, I asked for a refund and they said no. Terrible customer service as customers should definitely be treated fairly, I didn’t even have the app for 5 minutes before I canceled the subscription. I was also charged for more that what was stated I was being charged as it didn’t say it was usd until after I make the ‘purchase.’ Not happy.

Beware of Deceptive Hidden Charges and Shady Practices

I am extremely disappointed with the deceptive practices of this company. After paying for the main service by double-clicking on the side of my phone, I clicked the blue button on the screen, assuming it was necessary to access the app. Unbeknownst to me, this action authorized additional charges for two services I neither wanted nor understood.

Unlike the initial purchase, these charges did not require me to double-click the side of my phone for confirmation, which made it easy for the company to take my money without my explicit consent. To make matters worse, the option to skip these additional payments was presented in a faint grey color that was easy to overlook - clearly an intentional design choice to mislead customers.

The company has refused to issue a refund, forcing me to dispute the payment through my bank. This practice seems deliberately exploitative, as there are numerous complaints from others about similar hidden charges. It’s clear they’re using this as a money-making scheme at the expense of unsuspecting customers.

I strongly advise everyone to steer clear of this company. Their tactics are fraudulent, and they have no interest in resolving customer grievances fairly. Save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere.

Not for me, no refund

I tried the app for a couple of days and decided it wasn’t for me. There wasn’t enough depth for the content to be meaningful and the books the app “selected” for me based on my preferences were not a good fit. The first one was very male focussed and felt like a Joe Rogan podcast (not a compliment from me - but fine I guess if you’re a 30 year old man). The second book was uninteresting and seemed like just catch phrases being thrown at me. If I was to summarise the summary it’d go like this - “just do the thing”. I got more motivation from a Nike commercial.

I had issues subscribing through the App Store, so subscribed through the website. When I tried the app and decided it wasn’t for me, I could not get a refund, even though the website says try the app for free for 7 days. Because I purchased it through the website and not the App Store- I do not qualify for a refund. So using my motivation from the Nike ad - I’m just going to do it and leave this bad review here. I don’t usually complain, but it’s really misleading and I’m annoyed. I wanted to feel better after using the app and now I’m just let down. One positive is - when I needed support - I got replies from the company within a day.

Terrible customer support and good luck unsubscribing

It’s not worth the absurd cost. Any app with a secondary subscription (why not just use Apple’s in-app subscription like everyone else?) seems shady. They notify you after the payment goes through, three months later, without any warning. A reminder email 24 hours before the renewal would have been helpful, but instead, I was charged after. Considering I used the app once on the day I subscribed, that’s a very expensive 15min (which I don’t remember, so obviously wasn’t memorable). I emailed Julia in customer service - apparantley, the auto-renewal was hidden in the fine print, silly me. The irony is, I downloaded the app because I’m pressed for time, yet they expect me to comb through the terms and conditions. Don’t waste your time—services like this shouldn’t exist. You are most welcome.

Deceitful, be weary of “Free Trial”

Feel like I’ve just been completely scammed. Downloaded the app via instagram ad offering free 1 week trial before purchase. Followed the prompts to create an account for 7 day trial.

Authorised card for subscription after trial. Noticed after money had already been removed from my account and subscription activated without any trial. I only authorised on the basis I could cancel if I didn’t like it or the money would come out of my account in 7 days. This has left me short on cash. Disappointing as first impressions of the app are very good but I feel like I’ve been totally deceived which makes me weary to deal with this company at all. Highly disappointed

Disappointed

The concept is a great idea — summarize popular books into the essential nuggets to help you be better in multiple disciplines. Unfortunately, this app falls short on multiple levels.

I’ve had the app two months and this is the third time it has deleted all my finished book history and books saved for future reading.
To cancel this app is anything but simple. Tech support sends you a canned email to go within your apple account to unrenew the subscription. It wasn’t listed as a subscription! I had to click a link from an email on my desktop, then navigate to a page to unsubscribe. In the meantime, support marked my ticket as resolved without ever checking in with me to see if that was the case.
And most annoyingly, the summaries are varying degrees of WORD SALAD. For me, the app worked best as a screener tool. I listened to summaries, then decided if I wanted to read the entire book. For me, I found that about one in ten books were ones I wanted to read from cover to cover. It’s sad to think I could have missed out on books that the app didn’t summarize in a helpful, sensical way. (Note to book publishers — you might want to beat apps like this to the punch and write summaries that promise what this app did.)

Motivating

This app has helped me improve myself in so many ways. I was at a point in my life where I had no motivation to do anything. It felt like with every day that passed, I was falling deeper and deeper into this very depressing dark hole. And no matter what I did or how hard I tried I couldn’t seem to even attempt to pull myself out. The worst part was I didn’t know what the cause of all these life destructing problems were. It showed me exactly what was causing all of this turmoil and why. And started helping me slowly recover from it. Now I am my old self again. So happy with my life and where things are going. I am no longer depressed or having negative thoughts constantly. I can’t even picture my life being the way it had got before. I still use this app for inspiration on a daily basis. And I plan to continue doing so bc the positivity doesn’t end, it keeps getting better with time! I’m so regretful that I didn’t try this sooner but I’m beyond proud and thankful now that I finally decided to make that step to helping myself for me and my family’s sake.

Scam - buyer beware

I wish I’d read the reviews first because I see that others have had the same problem I had. Headway have designed a predatory user journey that scams users into accidentally adding on expensive extras immediately after purchasing the main app, without any kind of confirmation/approval screen before they take the money for these extras. The buy button is extremely easily misinterpreted as a continue button after your main purchase - one accidental tap and before you know it you’ve literally doubled the amount you intended to spend. They refuse to issue refunds, hiding behind their T&Cs that state a no refunds policy, but users aren’t actually prominently given the opportunity to read these before purchasing these extras because it’s a blink-and-you-miss-it user journey. It’s such a shame because the main app is actually quite good but overall it just seems scammy.
