2.3.0

January 28, 2024

Version 2.3.0 – “Divinyls“ This update adds the ability to copy a card number to the clipboard. • Copy is now available when long-pressing a card number Also, we did a pass on the widgets to make them work nicer on iOS 17. • Minor improvement to widget layouts Embarrassingly, Rhyno had 1 (one) bug. We found it, and fixed it. Now, the app is entirely bug free. It is perfect software. Enjoy. • Bug fix

Version 2.0.1 – “Head Injuries” This update optimises Rhyno with a few fixes when running on macOS. • Fixed a janky toolbar animation on macOS • Fixed some selectable text that shouldn’t be selectable on macOS • Fixed location permission being requested immediately when opening the top-up map on macOS • Optimises the add-card flow for devices (and Macs) that don’t support scanning If you have been enjoying these features we added in 2.0, please tell your mates about Rhyno and consider adding a review. • We removed needing an account to make Rhyno work The days of accounts are behind us. To add cards now, you simply need to…

• Add cards using your device’s NFC reader
This is lightning fast and will get you up and tramming/training/bussing/vlining(!??) asap. You can also type a number in manually like an animal.

• Added a card overview screen where you can see all of your saved cards at the same time Glance over all your cards at once. Arrange them however suits you using drag & drop.
• Reorganised the app’s navigation Settings is now in the lower right, with the map always in the lower left.

1.2.0

Please keep wearing your mask on public transport. We’d like to Notify you of a new feature… Version 1.2.0 – “The Saints” • Top up reminders. Rhyno will inform you via notification when your main card’s balance or pass is in the orange or red. You can choose which notifications Rhyno sends on the settings page inside the app. Notifications are processed 100% on-device, so for best results we recommend using a widget and keeping background app refresh enabled. • Background Refreshes are significantly faster and should be more reliable.

If you have Blocked or Expired cards, Rhyno will correctly report them as such. • Handles things better if PTV sends a card without a number (thanks so much for helping us with this Mario!). • Handles sign in failures and other username/password shenanigans a little more gracefully in general. AND, we added some notable things in version 1.1.1. Check them out in the version history.

1.1.1

February 1, 2021

In addition to some neat updates to the app, we added a privacy nutrition label to the Rhyno App Store page. Rhyno collects absolutely no information of any kind. We are privacy fanatics, and we love shipping apps like this. Please keep wearing a mask on public transport. Version 1.1.1 – “Easy” • Rhyno connects to PTV using an entirely new method(!!) (Hopefully you don't notice this at all) (Well done, Vlas.) • Widgets update more reliably, especially for passes • Restored the default app icon (the masked variant is still an option) • Some deep nerdery that sets up some things for a future release • Optionally, you can enable diagnostic information to look at locally by long-pressing on the “last updated” timestamp beneath a card

Description of Rhyno

Rhyno is a simple app for checking whether or not your Myki card will allow you to travel on public transport in Melbourne. It's easy to understand and delightful to use. Checking your balance has never been this straightforward or fun! Rhyno is laser-focused on the offline traveller’s experience. When your balance is low, use Rhyno’s map of every top-up location in Victoria to find places to top up in person. Rhyno can even suggest the closest one. If your card is about to expire, Rhyno will let you know. Add your Myki card using NFC, and Rhyno will show its status, be it Myki money or Myki pass. If you add multiple cards, you can assign each one a coloured label to help understand which one is which. Order your cards however you choose, and remove them when they’re no longer needed. Widgets enable you to glance at your cards’ balances at any moment. If you really want to up the game, you can build your own shortcut in the Shortcuts app using Rhyno's actions. Rhyno will show a reminder to top up in Notification Centre when your main card’s balance or pass is running out and also when your main card is about to expire. Robust VoiceOver and Dynamic Type support makes Rhyno a fully accessible member of the odd-toed ungulate order of mammals. Rhyno proudly boasts: • no ads, • no creepy tracking or analytics, • no back-end server as a middle-man (all processing and logic is run on-device), • no imported code. Rhyno is lovingly coded by hand in Melbourne.
