Best App I’ve Downloaded This Year

I previously had Opal, which I liked but it cost too much. This app is $10 for a lifetime subscription, and has even better features. This app has allowed me to become more productive by blocking certain apps during certain time periods. My sleep has also improved as well. You don’t realize how addicted to your screen you are until you try this app. In all seriousness this app has bettered my life.

Glitchy

I finally gave up on this app and downloaded another. For a couple months now I’ve been struggling with the app not working. I have it scheduled to block apps during my work hours, but it was not kicking on. I’d have to open the app and toggle my work hours on and off to get it to work. Even more frustrating, it then would not turn off when my work hours were over unless I toggled it on and off again. I contacted customer support about this and didn’t receive much help. After a few updates and the problem not being fixed, I finally gave up and downloaded one that works.

Response from developer

Hi there, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the issue you encountered with the OFF Time feature. We understand how frustrating it must have been for you. The behavior you described is not the experience we aim to provide. If possible, we would greatly appreciate it if you could contact us again at feedback@md.studio with more details so we can investigate further and work on improving our app. Thank you for sharing your feedback with us, and we hope to have the opportunity to serve you better in the future.

Reassuringly irritating

I use WhatsApp for business. And I have a Dexcom G7 app for medical reasons. My pick up rate is off the charts. What I want to isolate is social media only, not the device in its entirety. People who monitor investments, and use their device for work apps like Teams will also be told consistently that they fail. And that’s not what I want. I have tried to edit the social apps but can’t. Also that keeps crashing. I’m a product manager and love this idea so got the lifetime membership and now feel like it’s not fit for purpose.

Unnecessary Data Gathering

Love this app for it's hard blocking but am absolutely annoyed at the unnecessary data required for functions. There is no reason Location data should be required to block an app during a focus timer when it can work perfectly to block apps WITHOUT location data on scheduled OFF times.

Response from developer

Thank you for your feedback. We understand your concerns regarding location data. Due to system restrictions on iOS, OffScreen requires location permission to provide the feature of recording screen usage time accurately. We assure you that your privacy is extremely important to us, and we only request permissions necessary to deliver the app's functionality. If you have any further concerns or suggestions, please feel free to contact us at feedback@md.studio. We appreciate your support and understanding.

SKETCHY

Location needed to calculate screen time? Doesn’t sound right at all. They could just ask access to IOS screen time instead. Not recommended

Response from developer

Thank you very much for your feedback, and I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused. Due to limitations of the iOS system, OffScreen requires location permission to stay active in the background and accurately track screen usage time. Please rest assured that the location permission is only used for background activity and does not record or upload any location information.

Chews battery

11% of my battery drain is from this app alone.

UX could be better but it works pretty well.

Response from developer

Thank you for your feedback! We're sorry to hear about the battery drain issue. Under normal circumstances, OffScreen should not consume a significant amount of power. Please contact us at feedback@md.studio so we can assist you in resolving this issue. We're glad to know that the app is working well for you, and we appreciate your input on improving the user experience!

Handy

Pros: user interface is great. Prompts are encouraging and not too overbearing. Overall, a very good app.
Cons: Apps like these really need a way to distinguish between different uses of screen time. For instance, a two hour phone call is counted as two hours of screen time. Language learning apps, emails etc. Are all counted as screen time.
There needs to be a way to omit certain useful apps so you can see how much of your phone time is actually useless scrolling.
Or select the apps you want to cut down usage of so that these apps can be monitored for usage time.

Response from developer

Thank you for your feedback. Due to iOS restrictions that prevent OffScreen from knowing which specific app you are currently using, we are unable to provide targeted exclusion of screen time for navigation, audiobooks, and similar apps. However, we have specifically designed a Focus Mode feature in OffScreen. When you activate Focus Mode, OffScreen will no longer track screen time. For example, you can try creating a Focus category named "Driving" or "Studying" and select this focus when engaging in related tasks. This may help you address this issue. Thank you!

Exclude these!

It would be helpful if OffScreen has the ability to not count navigation in my car and listening to audiobooks as “screen time”. At the moment I’m not paying attention to my numbers because I listen to audiobooks while working so now it looks like I’m spending 11 hours a day on my phone which is only technically correct.

Location Tracking?

Why does this app needs location tracking?

Response from developer

Hello, thank you for your feedback on OffScreen! Due to restrictions in the iOS system, we need to obtain location permissions to accurately record screen usage time. Please rest assured, OffScreen will only use this permission to help you control screen usage time and will not collect or share your location information. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact our support team at feedback@md.studio. Thank you for your understanding and support!

Worst app - buggy do not buy

Response from developer

Thank you for your feedback. We apologize for any inconvenience caused to you. The maximum limit of 50 apps is determined by the iOS system. Would you mind contacting us at feedback@md.studio regarding this issue? We will assist you promptly to ensure that the app functions correctly.
