Great App, Helps well for school( especially for procrastinators!)
I got Opal sometime last year and it completely changed my perspective on my screen time. I realized with their summary that I would be spending many years of my life in front the screen, and there is so much time I spend on socials that I don't need to. After downloading, I've cut my screen time to half and I always reconsider how much time I spend on my phone, evaluating the time for if it's necessary or if there are better things to do with my time. I locked my most distracting apps to a certain time of nice during the week so I will be forced to focus on school. Since doing so it has been much easier to stop me from going on socials in the middle of my homework. It is also very difficult to turn off the screen time or screen schedule that you set up so it literally forced me to follow it no matter how difficult. The last time I tried to remove the screen time schedule I ended up deleting the app all together 😭. That just proves that the app makes you more disciplined. In conclusion, I would recommend Opal for anyone struggling with getting distracted by their phone, especially procrastinators!! It helps manage your screen time and reevaluate how much time you spend on your phone.Show lessSurprisingly Amazing
I never do well with apps similar to this. I always end up forgetting about them or turning them off so I can do my own thing. But this app has a perfect balance and is so good at managing itself. At first I wasn’t going to use it when I saw the payment options, but then I realized you can actually use it for free, those are just extra options. The app still has all its base important features for free. I love that you can set different times for when everything gets turned off, which means there are still times you can use your apps, and if you really need to they have a snooze option that lets you use your apps for a certain amount of time during one of your focus sessions. You can also choose which apps get shut off, and even have an option to turn off adult content if you’re prone to watching that stuff when you’re bored or at certain times of the day. It’s not over the top, it’s simple and easy to use, and it’s actually helping me stay off my phone. Highly recommend, hope they don’t change a thing because how they have it now works!!!Show lessUseful til it’s not
I’ve used this app for two months now and it works great if you want to add an extra barrier to your social media consumption but for me personally it has not worked how I hoped. I don’t like that it notifies me 5 mins before my app limits is about to hit because I just go in and change the time from 1 hour to 2 hours and so on. I also struggle a lot with breaking the habit of mindless scrolling when I have some free time and I get sucked it and that’s when I start to change the opal settings. I would like if they could have the option to turn off the notifications when they tell your snooze session is going to end or when the app limit will hit. I would also like to choose a level weekly or daily. Maybe have like a limited snooze time for example in a day you can only snooze for 20 mins total etc. or you can only change the settings 1-2 times per week. Make it a little harder for those who struggle the most.
Also, I would like to get a notification or something while I am in certain apps. For example after 3 mins of being on the app you can send a notification for me to be aware that I’ve spent too much time or that im wasting my time. Or something that can help stop the mindless scrolling even when it’s during the permitted period. Not so much avoid it (like blocking the app) but to minimize itShow less
