All Versions of Jomo

1.8.15

June 29, 2024

New in this version: ◆ SET HOW LONG APPS WILL BE BLOCKED ONCE YOUR TIME LIMIT IS REACHED [JOMO PLUS] ◆ In this new version, we are releasing the most requested feature for the iOS app by the Jomo community. You can now configure your app limit as follows: "After X minutes of app usage time, block app for Y minutes." For instance, if you’ve allocated 15 minutes for Instagram followed by a 2-hour block, you can use Instagram for 5 minutes, set your phone aside, return later for another 5 minutes, and so forth until you’ve used up the 15 minutes. Then Instagram will be blocked for 2 hours. We believe this setting will help you create more sustainable time limits. We look forward to hearing your feedback! ◆ IMPROVEMENTS ◆ * If you encounter stability issues with time limits, you can turn off real-time monitoring for your limit. Open the detail screen for your limit and go to More > Monitor usage in real time. Turning this off improves tracking reliability but disables the usage duration progress bar and reminders. * We’ve fixed the “Complete Habit” shortcut. * We’ve added a warning message when selecting blocked apps for the “Good Apps First” condition to help you avoid mistakes. * Adjusted height for the “Trends” section on iPhone 12/13 mini for better readability. * The strict mode confirmation alert is clearer and the strict mode password is no longer shown. * You can now block app installations. Open your rule and go to Apps & Websites > Additional options & websites > App installations.
 * A memory leak that could cause blocking screens to malfunction has been fixed. Thanks to Chris for reporting this problem. * Blocking rules should work again for beta users. Enjoying Jomo? Rate the app 5 stars and tell us what you like about it :) Take care, Laureline & Thomas

New in this version: ◆ MEDITATE TO UNLOCK APPS (WITH APPLE HEALTH) ◆ A new Health Goal (highly requested!) is now available: Mindful Minutes. Health Goals are Jomo's brand-new feature that encourages you to reach a specific activity goal to unlock apps. You can now create a rule that says: "If I spend 10 mindful minutes, unlock Instagram" (100% customizable). Most meditation apps (Petit Bambou, Calm, Headspace, etc.) automatically add mindful minutes to Apple Health after each session. Mindfulness invites you to live in the moment and experience the present. A great addition to Jomo! Go to Rules > Conditions > + > To Unblock > Health Goals to try it out. ◆ IMPROVEMENTS ◆ * We have added three more health goals: water consumed, exercise minutes, and time spent in daylight. * Open limits could reset to zero during the day without reason. This issue has been fixed.

For example, run 5 km to unlock your favorite mobile game. Go to Rules > Conditions > + > To Unblock > Health Goals to try it out. Enjoying Jomo? New in this version: ◆ NEW CONDITIONS POWERED BY APPLE HEALTH (JOMO PLUS) ◆ 150 minutes of exercise per week, or two and a half hours—that’s the official recommendation from the World Health Organization. Yet 1.4 billion people fall short. Worse still, according to CDC, three out of four American adults are not getting enough exercise. Two and a half hours a week may sound like a lot, but when compared to the 35 hours a week the average person spends on their phone, it's easy to see why we've become so sedentary. It's time to restore the balance! In this new version, we're excited to announce the release of the most requested feature ever on Jomo: screen time rules linked to your physical activity. You read that right—we're introducing two brand-new types of conditions that integrate with Apple Health: * Health Goals: Reach a certain health goal to unlock apps. For example, walk 5000 steps to unlock your favorite mobile game. Go to Rules > Conditions > + > To Unblock > Health Goals to try them. * Dynamic Limits: It's simple — The more you exercise, the more time you unlock on certain apps. For example, you can start your day with 10 minutes of Instagram. Every 500 steps you walk earns you an extra minute. This is 100% customizable. Go to Rules > Conditions > + > To Block > Dynamic Limits to try them. We're supporting two health metrics in this initial release: steps and pushes (for wheelchair users). Many more are coming in the future! If there is a specific metric you want to be added, contact us at hello@jomo.so. ◆ IMPROVEMENTS ◆ * You can now use an “All except…” blocklist or an app group in a “Good Apps First” condition. * To avoid confusion, whitespaces are now trimmed for passwords protecting strict mode. * We've fixed an issue that could cause the app to freeze when the "Rules" tab was opened. Many thanks to MH and Gabriel for reporting this! * We've corrected a bug where the specified interval was not correctly taken into account when scheduling a condition. Enjoying Jomo? New in this version: ◆ “UNTIL DATE” OPTION FOR STRICT MODE, RULE STREAK AND CUSTOM SNOOZE LIMIT ◆ In this new version, we've added several upgrades to our blocking rules. **Strict Mode “Until Date“** You can now lock your rule with Strict Mode until a specified time in the future. Simply select the new "Until Date" option when enabling Strict Mode and select the date and time of your choice. Thanks so much to Hermann, Philippe, Linden, and Mate for suggesting this. **Rule Streak** We are now keeping track of how long a rule is held. As you may know, our goal with Jomo is to help you create resilient screen time rules that you can maintain in the long term. By showing that you've committed to a rule for 7, 30, 60, or even 365 days, we want to celebrate lasting screen time habits! You can check your streak for a given rule by opening its detail screen. You can also show the streak directly in the rule card by going to Rules > Rule Settings > Display streak in rule card. **Custom Snooze Limits (Jomo Plus)** You can customize the number of times you can snooze a rule or refresh a condition. To do this, go to Rules > Rule Settings > Quotas. You can update limits once per week. In the latest version, we limited the number of snoozes to twice per week by default. We've removed this as you can now customize it to your liking. ◆ IMPROVEMENTS ◆ * We've fixed an issue with the "Habit" conditions where the checkbox would not appear until you force-restarted the app. Thanks to Hunter and Bridget for reporting this. * We've fixed an issue where a "Habit" condition would reset on timezone change. Many thanks to Tristan for his feedback! * We've revamped the screen time settings and the rule settings screens. They are still quickly accessible from the "Home" tab (for screen time settings) and from the "Rules" tab (for rule settings). You can also access both by going to Profile > Settings. Enjoying Jomo? New in this version: ◆ NEW CONDITIONS, LIMIT REMINDERS, STRICT MODE IMPROVEMENTS, AND MORE ◆ In this version, we've made many updates to our blocking rules based on hundreds of feedback from the Jomo community! Our goal? To help you set up smart screen time rules that stick in the long run. Thank you again to everyone for helping us shape the most advanced app blocking system on iPhone/iPad; this version is **MADE BY YOU**. ||| 3 NEW CONDITIONS
 ||| * Good Apps First: Prioritize the use of "good" apps before others. For example, spend 15 minutes reading on Books to unlock YouTube. * Screen Time Limit: Block time-heavy apps after you've used your phone for a set period. For example, blocking social media or using it more intentionally after 1 hour of screen time. * App Opens Limit: Block apps after opening them a specific number of times, such as blocking Mail after 5 opens daily. ||| GENERAL ENHANCEMENTS FOR CONDITIONS ||| * Breaks are now available on conditions! For example, you can allow yourself a few extra unlocks after you've reached your limit. Unlike native limits, it's 100% customizable! * Reminders on Limits: Receive notifications before you reach your limit, or at regular intervals, to better manage your time. * App groups are now available for conditions. * You can now create reusable condition templates. ||| STRICT MODE IMPROVEMENTS ||| You can now choose when strict mode will be active. Three modes are available: * While Blocking: Strict mode is active only during blocking. This is the default behaviour that you already know. * Always On (Password): Strict mode remains active at all times until you enter a set password. This password can be configured by a friend or family member to keep you accountable, for example. * Always On (Random Code): Strict mode remains active at all times until you enter a random code. You can choose the length of the code. * You can now set the emergency mode code length, and snoozing is limited to twice every 7 days. ||| UI IMPROVEMENTS ||| * A new design for the rule card. * A simplified breaks configuration screen with helpful visuals. * A completely redesigned "Templates" section in the "Rules" tab. We can't wait for you to try out all these improvements! And it doesn't stop there - we'll be continuing to publish major updates to blocking rules over the coming weeks! As always, please keep the feedback coming by reaching out through the app (Profile > Messages > Chat with us) or at hello@jomo.so. We've made major changes under the hood, so feel free to contact us if you encounter any issues. Enjoying Jomo? New in this version: ◆ IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR IOS 16 USERS ◆ Due to technical reasons beyond our control, Jomo can no longer display detailed activity data (such as used applications) on iOS 16. We have updated the "Home" tab for iOS 16 users to accommodate these limitations. You can still view your total screen time for today, as well as access your average weekly screen time and new statistics about time saved with Jomo. **For an optimal experience on Jomo, we advise iOS 16 users to update their device to iOS 17. App blocking will continue to function correctly on iOS 16.** ◆ IMPROVEMENTS ◆ * We have fixed a bug that prevented app limits and estimated screen time from functioning correctly on iOS 17.4. * A new "Quick Sessions" widget is now available and it is interactive. You will be able to start a blocking session right from your home screen. * We've simplified the process of upgrading from a subscription to the lifetime plan. If you are interested in purchasing the lifetime plan, go to Profile > Settings > Manage Your Jomo Plus Plan > Upgrade to Lifetime. Enjoying Jomo? New in this version: ◆ SAVE TIME WITH APP GROUPS ◆ In this new version, we've added one of your most-requested features: APP GROUPS. With App Groups, you can create reusable lists of apps and websites to block. You can easily use these groups in your sessions. When configuring a session, navigate to “Blocked Content” and then select “Link App Group”. The coolest part is that any changes made to a group, such as adding an app, will be updated in all sessions using that group! You can create different groups for various needs, such as fun apps, work apps, or a detox mode that blocks almost everything. Currently, app groups are only available for sessions. ◆ IMPROVEMENTS ◆ * We have revamped our blocked content selection screen to improve legibility and reduce errors. * We have added quick access to the “Healthy Alternatives” screen in the “Rules” tab. * We have fixed a bug where multiple sessions with whitelists were not merging correctly (special thanks to Rayan for reporting this). * We have introduced a new “Is Session Active? (By Name)” shortcut, which allows you to check the status of a session by its name, rather than by an identifier. This is useful if the session whose status you want to know is not necessarily scheduled.
 * We have fixed an issue where the timer stayed stuck on the start break screen after going to the background. * Two new shortcuts were added: "RedirectIfSessionBlocking" and "RedirectIfConditionBlocking". Thanks to these new shortcuts, you can block any app using Apple's Shortcuts app and synchronize the blocking status with a specific session or condition. * We have improved troubleshooting in various scenarios (login, app picker issues, etc.). • Very Straightforward to Use and Excellent Support

Jomo is very straightforward to use. The app provides a number of customizable App Limit templates based on your specific goals. For me, I simply select the apps I would like to limit (Reddit, Instagram, Twitter) and set a time limit. I like Jomo a lot more than the default Apple App Limits setting because the interface is easier to use, and it does not allow you to easily extend or eliminate the limit you have set for yourself.

When I had a minor issue with the Reddit website not being picked up by Apple’s screen time logging (which Jomo uses to determine limits), the developers responded within 12 hours with a fix that worked (installing the Reddit app and adding it to the Block List).

I would highly recommend Jomo as a tool for eliminating distractions, boosting productivity, and ultimately spending less time on your phone.
  • Great app for iPhone management

This app has helped me significantly to be intentional with my device usage, especially when I’m working, and gain back hours of my day. Before, I was using my phone upwards of 5.5 hours a day, mostly on social media. This meant I wasn’t spending much quality time with people or getting tasks done. With about 20 minutes of setting this app up exactly the way I want it, I can now make sure that I have time to enjoy social media while also using my phone as a tool for work and experiencing the world. It’s reasonably priced, offers a student discount, has great support, and has been very effective. Already recommended it to multiple people, I love this app.
  • Very good app, with some requests for improvement

All in all, this is a very good app and generally does what it says it will do. It's one of those apps that requires willpower, but once you build it into your practice it becomes part of your daily flow.

    A few comments thus far:
    1. I have noticed that on my phone, triggering a break doesn't open apps back up nearly half the time I do it. This seems like a bug that should be addressed.
    2. Request: add calendar integration so that I can dynamically trigger sessions based on events.
    3. Request: Enable full size on Mac. When using the app on my main monitor, it is pretty small and the size cannot be adjusted.
    4. Request: enable sync between devices. Understand the limitations, but perhaps allow it for sessions that specifically filter webpages.

I do still recommend this app and look forward to its continued development. Thanks!
