  • Great App!

I really enjoyed using Strava with all its capabilities and nice interface. However, the terrible thing about it is its lack of privacy. You can set your own privacy settings of course, but Strava has access to all your information. I thought, “Oh no! I’m going to lose stats, and have to go old school and log it all manually!” But Outrun has been a great replacement. Been walking and hiking so far and will add cycling in the summer. Outrun is totally privacy focused with a slick interface and it works really well. No crashes so far. I haven’t really tried the export feature yet so I can log my workouts in an external application but I’ll try that soon.

  • Almost perfect, but…

I previously gave this app a 5-star review for being an easy-to-use and privacy-respecting fitness tracker. Generally speaking, it does what it should well and with a slick interface to boot.
However, I just had the app crash on me while saving the results of a 10-hour hike through the mountains. I ended up losing the recording so I was pretty bummed. Looking at other reviews, it seems this isn’t a completely one-off occurrence.
So, as much as I love the app and what it stands for in the midst of the pseudo-social media platforms that mainstream fitness trackers, I’ll likely be switching back to Strava myself to avoid running the risk of losing another big hike or run.

  • A sane offline runtracker

OutRun is a fully offline, privacy-respecting, free run tracker on iOS. For some reason every mainstream alternative has tacked-on social media elements, requires an account, and/or shoves paid “features” in your face incessantly. OutRun has none of these anti-features, and I really appreciate that. It also has a very clean and interface, something I usually don’t expect in open source apps, and it’s very simple and easy to use.
I’m using a 2016 iPhone SE running iOS 15 and have had no issues with crashes or instability after a month of using the app. Can recommend whole-heartedly.

  • A sane offline runtracker

Part of me wants to leave 5 stars for the fact that it is a truly offline, privacy-respecting, free run tracker on iOS. Because for some reason every mainstream alternative has tacked-on social media elements, requires an account, and shoves paid “features” in your face incessantly.
OutRun has none of these anti-features, and I really appreciate that. It also has a very clean and interface, something I usually don’t expect in open source apps, and it’s very simple and easy to use.

My only negative is that average pace is not displayed on the run summary page. Oddly enough, there is a toggle in settings that explicitly enables pace display as you are recording. That works great, but once you save your workout you are suddenly locked out from that data and instead can only view speed. It seems like such an odd oversight that I’m partially convinced I’m missing something, but I have done a whole lot of digging to no avail. I see this app hasn’t been updated in a hot minute but I figure it’s worth a shot to leave my feedback.

  • This was all I needed - perfect app

I didn’t want a profile, I didn’t want to publish to Facebook or socials to show off, I didn’t want ads , I just wanted to track my runs, for me, no one else
Well, thank you Tim, there are a few good impassioned devs out there like you, and I’m glad they exist
  • Privacy respecting, great UI

The app does exactly what it should do, not more, not less. Highly recommended.
  • TOTALLY FREE

Great app for the basics. How far have you walked, with a map showing your route. How many calories have you burned.

No adds and no in app purchases.
    Well worth a look.
  • FREE AND OPEN SOURCE

No ads. No data collection. Author doesn’t even accept donations.

Absolute champ. Amazing app. Use it every single day. Can’t beat it.
  • EXCELLENT private running tracking!

Finally thankful to have my data to myself and myself alone. The breakdown of runs is way better than the Workouts in the Apple Activity app. However, I was looking for something to show aggregate over time.

    - All runs over a week, month, or all time
    - Show best times, pace, highest altitude gain, all time etc.

Would pay for this to support app development! Thank you for making this!!

  • The simplest, most professional privacy-focused running app

Fantastic app. Route mapping is brilliant, metrics provided are useful, functionality is awesome.

Far and away one of the most impressive features is that this is ad-free, easy to use, and damn nice-looking. Tim has done a great job and should be commended on creating a Strava (etc.) alternative that has all the functionality with none of the tracking, logins, or annoying social features.

A few extra features (notifying at km/mile with a pace readout, elevation-distance graphing, custom workout names) could really round out the functionality, but overall it does almost all of what you want it to. The rest is probably only an update or two away anyway.
