Great App To Study But Have Some Changing Feedback

I love this app. The only thing is that you should not have to buy words because this app should all be free due to kids not being able to have parents buy the coins. I for example, have parents who are not going to waste their money for words. You can use the money for the champion words but for the type of difficulty, all the word should be free. And the reason for this app is so you can become a future spelling champion as you said in the description and this feedback will really have great chances for future spellers. I really hope you pay attention to this comment because my school has a lot of great spellers and I want to know the words so I can learn about them and how to spell that words. Thank you and this is a 12 year old typing this.

Overall this is a great app to app to study for the 2020 Spelling Bee. Thank National Spelling Bee.🥳

I will now be able to study well and I will study better if you listen. I am very grateful for this!

Finally here but needs improvement

After waiting months since the “old” browser based study tool was discontinued, the new app version is finally here.

Two major issues I have with the new app, that impede its effectiveness especially compared to the prior browser version:

First, the pronunciation guide is shown on the screen during spelling quizzes. So, the student gets visual hints they will not get in the live spelling bee. That develops bad habits. For example, one of the words is “film”. The pronunciation guide is “film”. How effective is that to test the students spelling knowledge??
Make the pronunciation guide hidden by default. Maybe an option to display it, but I suggest not. Don’t give the students a crutch they won’t have in the Bee.

Second, after completing a 50 word quiz, you get a score, but it does not give a recap of what words you got wrong and what the correct answers were. There is also no way to just repeat the words you got wrong. You have to repeat the whole lesson. These are both features the browser version had that are lacking in the app.

Overall, I am really disappointed. It is still a useful tool because you get the words and the official definitions but definitely a step down from the prior tool.

I have no issue with the $25 cost. It would be well worth it if the above issues were fixed.

Response from developer

Thank you for your feedback regarding our Word Club app. We just released an update to the app that will allow you to hide each word's written pronunciation within the quizzes. The toggle button for this feature is available within Settings. Also, with an early January update of the app we will add a feature allowing users to add words to their Bookmarks from the results screen for a quiz. Users will then be able to review the missed words using the Flashcards quiz type.
