Unusable unless paid

You ran as a free app for years getting all your data from users like me- now there’s no thanks for users creating that data - just a 60$ slap in the face. I get that the app might work better now but there was a lot of loyal users who helped share their spots who can’t afford the extra cost. This hurt to see. With all that said the paid version works well

Where’s the value add here?

Can someone explain what the upside of this app is now? Other than selling me the data I contributed to it?

Don’t upgrade

Super aggressive ads plus no lifetime unlock, it looks like folks will need to get another source for off grid camping again as this direction for iOverlander is a bad omen

Response from developer

Thank you for your feedback. The decision to offer a paid subscription was out of necessity to sustain iOverlander. We wish we could remain completely free forever, but after 10 years of attempting to run iOverlander that way, we know it is not possible.

Corruption

There is absolutely no way the app has to be this expensive

Response from developer

Other camping apps have a different subscription model. They restrict more and use a low price expecting everyone to upgrade. iOverlander wanted to build a free version that had fewer restrictions, and so fewer people would need to upgrade. In other words, you can’t accurately compare our subscriptions on price alone. Read more here: https://ioverlander.com/whats_coming

Way too expensive

$99 a year is simply too expensive. Make it a lifetime purchase and people will happily recommend the app.

Response from developer

Thanks for the feedback. Our paid subscription is a bit different and costs a bit more than other travel apps. Check out this article for more details on why:https://ioverlander.com/whats_coming

Saved our tails!

Recently did a 4800 mile overland trip with my 3 kids and wife. This app was amazing. We found so many good sites. Many times struggling to find somewhere when plans didn’t go as planned, every time iOverlander came in to save the day.

Response from developer

Thank you so much! We are happy that you had a wonderful trip!

Great but very expensive

I have downloaded the app, it has a good look and feel, I would really purchase a subscription, but it is way too expensive. It is a database filled by users, using the old and new app. With the quantity of people using this app, a cheaper price will still make you rich. Please consider this, or offer discount.

Thousands of free upgrades have been given to our top contributors, and we hope to continue this program to give free upgrades to our top contributors every year. But please know that 97% of our users contribute nothing. And, a lot more goes into keeping our app alive then just points and check-ins, which unfortunately cannot be sustained on donations alone. Not Ready for Release

I'm trying to give this new version of iOverlander the benefit of the doubt, but it's too buggy to get a good read on it. I consistently have problems syncing my data and I've yet to be able to upload a picture. At least they have done away with the very obtrusive full screen animated advertisements that would take over your phone.

Thanks for your feedback. We’d love some more details about the problem you mentioned, so we can resolve it. Please send the details or screenshots to support@ioverlander.com.

Not up to snuff

There’s still no support for a location search feature other than the web browser version and you still have to scroll all over to find a location in the app. There is also no way to select your preferred map app. Camping locations take forever to appear on the map and now you have to download areas individually by state as opposed to it already being there. Oh and now it’s cluttered with pop up ads unless you want to pay a ridiculous amount for a subscription. I’d be willing to pay a small amount if the app was more useful.

Response from developer

Thanks for your feedback. Yes, Search is at the top of our features list now. But we needed to get some income to pay for the development of it. The open in mapping app function is on the place details page (top right next to the heart) and Yes we will make that a little more obvious in a upcoming version. And we just released monthly subscriptions. Feel free to email us at support@ioverlander.com if you need more info :)

No ipad

Interface needs to be fully functional on an ipad, NOT just the iPhone interface on an iPad. Also needs map access to Gaia and google in addition to Apple maps.
