  • Excellent sudoku app

This app has brought a whole new level of joy to sudoku solving. I gravitate to the most challenging puzzles I can find, but usually, while solving, I have to spend some time eliminating the trivial cases. What makes this app stand out is the visual cues it gives. This takes the drudgery out of solving and has given me fresh insights into the patterns one finds.
Also it offers different modes, arcade etc, for some different play, and though I do not use them, it has hints for the novice.
Also it will sync across devices, was quite impressed with that.

    Well done Zach and friends!

  • Glitches often

I have an iPad eight and my iOS is updated. This game is mostly fun but after a while the glitches really get to you. Sometimes if you push the red pencil to delete options it doesn’t work. Sometimes you can push square after square and it will still be red and sometimes it just goes back to normal. Then you push theNumber you mean to delete and the system thinks you are trying to enter that has the answer and bleeps the error noise. There seems to be no rhyme and reason to the scoring. As you play there is a score recorded in the upper right hand corner. But it seems to have nothing to do with the score that happens at the end. They never match up and don’t seem related at all. I really wish that function keys worked correctly all the time. They just don’t and then it becomes frustrating. I’m taking this off my device for now and maybe I’ll try again one day. They have some good ideas in teaching you how to play sudoku and I do like that it fills in all of your options so you can figure it out.

  • I never thought I could be good at sudoku

This game is one of my favorite things I have ever installed on my iphone. I play it all the time, and it has proven to me that I can learn to do things I never thought I could (like being an English student who is suddenly capable of doing sudoku).

The only bug that I have found is sometimes when you are on daily classic and you go too fast (or something) and you finish it all correctly, the puzzle doesn’t register as “done” and nothing I do seems to fix it (which of course messes up the finish time and your streak).

    Bless you all!

  • Great sudoku, minor flaws

There’s no better Sudoku app on the App Store — of that I’m convinced. After months of play, however, I have to admit that I’m frustrated with its minor flaws and daily annoyances.

First, it’s great that there’s a leaderboard for the daily sudoku, but I have not and will not ever place on it, and the effect is that the app mildly negs me every single day. I didn’t place in the global top 250! I get it! I’m just a guy doing a sudoku.

Next, I love the idea of a daily challenge, but wish it was approached more like the solitaire app I play where I can go back and fill in a missed day. I had a huge sudoku streak going but had a bad reaction to my COVID vaccine and missed a day and broke my streak. Now my motivation is tanked.

What it boils down to for me is that sudoku is extremely relaxing and improving my game is extremely satisfying, but I’m gradually starting to resent the low-level anxiety this app is producing. In the big scheme of things it’s super minor! But it’s something that has become a part of my day so worth speaking up.

Thanks for an otherwise insanely fantastic app that has genuinely made me a better player.

  • Best way to improve at sudoku

At first I felt like some of the features of Good Sudoku was cheating... But I can see now how it eliminates the tedious parts of a puzzle in order to get me to the more challenging parts of a puzzle much more quickly, which helps me learn more advanced techniques much more easily. Plus, when I’m stuck, the tips give really good context for the hint it provides, so I can go back to the training mode and practice.

  • Great Notes

This is a great application. The ability to keep track of and eliminate the numbers is a fantastic addition. I use this feature constantly.

I would change the order of the buttons, as I find myself accidentally pressing UNDO. Otherwise, I would give this 5 stars.

It would be nice if there was a REDO button, based on the location of the UNDO button. However, there’s not much screen space for it, so I’m not sure how that might be accomplished.

  • Bugs bugs bugs

My prior review seems to have vanished for some reason. This is a good app but the bugs are driving me bonkers. The AI that attempts to guess when you’re done eliminating candidates has been extremely flawed from day one and has literally always been more of an annoyance than a help. There is an option to turn it off in settings but the app ignores it. The developers response to my previous review about the setting being ignored? “If you don’t like that feature you can turn it off.” GEE THAT WOULD BE SWELL, MAYBE YOUR APP CAN LISTEN TO ITS OWN SETTINGS.

This current release not only STILL doesn’t fix this, it’s now worse. Now not only does the AI still randomly stop selecting a cell/group of cells when attempting to eliminate multiple candidates, it now also randomly switched modes to entering numbers. So in the middle of eliminating candidates it now, without warning, enters the number I’m trying to eliminate.

This has caused the app to register multiple “errors” in arcade mode and is really making me angry. Seriously, no one asked for this candidate AI “feature” and it has never worked. It is so buggy that even turning it off doesn’t work. This one thing is completely ruining the experience of an otherwise excellent app and I seriously cannot understand why getting the app to listen when I turn it off in its own settings is apparently so hard for the dev to accomplish.

  • Absolutely fantastic sudoku app

Really love this app. Easy to use and the techniques teacher is amazing. One nitpick: if I explicitly mark a naked pair in a house, I would prefer not to have a hint pop up that tells me to cross out the other that pair in the other boxes. Either having an option to automatically cross out those numbers elsewhere or just treating the other boxes as not having those numbers as options would be great. Not sure how feasible this is with your hint logic but it would be the only thing I would change!

  • Great game with catchy design

Good sudoku is really very good! The only features I feel could improve are the processing of daily contests. It appears that people are using the raw API to achieve high scores rather than playing by hand. Even were it not the case: I’m a player that can complete basic and even expert puzzles in a little over 2 minutes, up to 5. I have a pro puzzle in under 9 and several under 12: all without hints. and I don’t get any recognition. I know I may not be in the top 250, but you’d be hard pressed to find someone within a mile of here who performs better. I feel that if I don’t merit recognition, too much of their audience also must fail to see any reward in their daily challenges gamification.

  • The only game I play on my iPad at this point

See title. It’s really, really great. Thanks so much for making it! Sometimes it’s a bit laggy when I’m waking up my iPad from sleep but it works its way out after a few seconds every time, and I’m sure that will be resolved (... if it isn’t from the last update ...) ... regardless, that’s the type of bug you find after playing a game for days on end. I’ve learned more about sudoku playing this than anything else I’ve done with the game
