A long time ago Iowa was going to be the first state that had a mobile ID. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen, but I suppose better late than never.
I have been patiently waiting for a long time for this. I’m a huge fan of technology making life easier and it’s been a pain that when (just to cite one example) leaving the house and really not needing my billfold (credit cards are in Apple Pay, which I use 80% of the time to pay for things), except I still need my drivers license in case of a traffic stop.
I know that we’re not able to leave our physical cards at home yet, but this is a huge step in the right direction! Next huge step will be integration into the Apple wallet, which Iowa (according to Apple) is working towards.
Personally I never leave home without my phone but I would love to leave the wallet home.
I agree that the set up for this was pretty straight forward and it never dawned on me that this really is better in a lot of ways. Not the least of which is that we will be able to only share the information that is needed.
There’s absolutely zero reason why anyone who is trying to verify age for alcohol purchases (as an example) needs your address for example.
I am really looking forward to being able to have my phone contain my ID for TSA purposes and for rental car purposes. I already have my boarding pass for airplanes on my phone, but currently still need my DL out for TSA, which seems antiquated.
Glad to see we’re moving past that finally!
