Reviews of enbrighten

  • Excellent, but not quite perfect

I have 2 of these installed on my house. Installation is pretty straightforward if you’re comfortable doing electrical work. I really like the functionality of the product, but I have a couple minor complaints about the app/automation. First, I cannot change the profile name from the default one that was assigned to me. Second, for one of my lights I set up a schedule. I have the Accent light come on at dusk at 100%, then it switches to 50% brightness at 12:30am and goes off at dawn. But the time it comes on every day is much earlier than you’d expect, and much earlier than the Accent light comes on on the other unit, for which I DON’T have a schedule. It appears that it’s determining the time to come on by time zone rather than by sensing how dark it is. I am at the extreme western end of the eastern time zone, so if that’s what it’s doing, that would explain what I’m seeing.

These are really minor quibbles, though. Overall I really like the whole concept and what they do for us, from the security they provide to the convenience of not having to remember to turn on a light for someone who’s coming home after dark. I highly recommend them.
  • A dollar for every reset

If I had a dollar for every time I need to reset and reconnect the system, I’d have enough money to buy a different set up.

Every time the app updates, power goes, or just a few days pass, the whole things needs to be reconfigured. I wish there was a way for profiles to be saved and for firmware that just kept products from completely forgetting WiFi networks every other day. It works terrific - when it works. But having bought it for security reasons I’ve never had the plug work when I need it, only for leisure when I happen to have the time/ladder to deal with the reset and reconnection.
  • Liked at first, now it’s a hassle.

I was really excited to have the ability to control our lights like this at first. This is our first time trying WiFi managed outlets. Unfortunately, after a few days, the app stopped working correctly. Lights now show on even when they are flipped off (they’re not set up backwards, they just don’t change from the on symbol to the off symbol when they have legitimately been turned off in the room). This means, I can’t manage them from off site, because I have no idea what they are doing if I can’t see them with my eyes. Sometimes I have to push three or four times to get a light to come on. Over all, it’s more irritating than just walking over and pushing the button on the outlet. The automated times work fine, but if I want to go off schedule with the app, the results are random.

When I searched the app to find a solution, I found similar complaints with the warning that the company hasn’t ever fixed this issue with the app and doesn’t seem to want to try. If I had it to do over again, I would choose another brand.
