  • Great app, great developer

This is a no-nonsense read-later app! Does what I want it to do without unnecessary fluff, tracking, or invasions of privacy. Developer was very responsive about future updates and enhancements. Looking forward to seeing more from them!

Update: still 5 stars! The developer continues to add requested features! Most recently, the ability to save offline. This elevates this app to the premier ‘read later’ app.

  • Simple elegant read-it-later app ❤️❤️❤️

I’m really enjoying this new app. It’s great as-is, even better with the optional in-app purchase. I’ve switched from Pocket. This is definitely cleaner, simple UI. It’s easy to become a fan of this app.

    Wishlist:
    - Selective offline saving (e.g. just save everything with a particular tag for offline reading)
    - Grid view with thumbnails, like Pocket has

Hi bripirie! Offline saving is coming in the next release, stay tuned! As for grid view, I'm going to do a big UI change for iPad on iOS 14, I'll consider your suggestion! 🙌
  • Great app!

Much better interface Instapaper and Pocket, and the unread, archive, and favourite features make the list of articles much more manageable and easy to keep track of!

One suggestion would be to add an option for image previews alongside the saved pages to make it easier to see what each page is at a glance.

    Fantastic work!

  • Great app

UPDATE: Love the new add a note feature! So cool! Happy to support development on this app. They fixed the one issue I had of not auto opening in reader mode. Happily using this over the competition.

Love the app and being able to control my own data.

Hi Rickreiko! The Reader View feature that you're requesting is already implemented, make sure to update the app to have it available! ✌🏼
  • Getting better, wishing for a few key features

I really like the idea behind Abyss. It's great for capturing links on mobile to review later on the Mac. One of my primary use cases is saving Tweets from Tweetbot that I don't have time to look at right then. Unfortunately Abyss just saves "Ars Technica on Twitter" and "arstechnica.com". There's no context. It would be so much more useful if Abyss "special cased" some URLs (like Twitter!) and pulled in the tweet as the "title" (while expanding t.co links at the same time). Github.com is another example, where Abyss just shows "ajusa/lit" and "github.com" in the list... it would be great if it was "smart" enough to pull in the project's tagline ("World's smallest responsive css framework") instead. I realize I could "tap through" from Tweetbot and then send the link to Abyss, but that loses the source context, and requires even more taps, which can be challenging when you're running on the treadmill...

I'd also like a setting to show the the full URL (the list shows just the domain name) to provide additional context. I'm also frequently opening URLs unintentionally because a single-click immediately opens it. I'd prefer (a setting?) where a single-click just highlights the entry and a double-click opens it.

It would also be nice to display the date/time (as an absolute, like "5/11/2020 10:20am" or "2 hours ago") on the right-hand side of each entry in the list.

All in all, the idea behind this app is great, I love that it uses iCloud and isn't dependent on a "service", and with a few more improvements it will be a five-star app!

  • Great read it later app

It’s new and still not feature complete but it’s good enough to use on a daily basis for me.

It covers the basics and work very well.

Active developer makes the future of this app exciting.

I replaced my old read later service by Abyss couple of weeks ago and it’s awesome. I love that my links are private and not stored by a 3rd party.

  • Smart Solution for Common Problem

    What a clever idea!
Each day I'm churning through a lot of webpages --articles, interesting sites, cool links-- but I don't have enough time to go through them all. They end up accumulating so that I lose track of them, while my browser gets choked up...

But then I discovered this gem of an app --so simple, yet so smart!
I've gone through and cleaned up my browsers (yes! on all devices!) and it's down to only a few tabs. When I come across a webpage I want to come back to later, I simply use the share feature and "Save to Abyss" to return another time.

Soon as I downloaded and started to use it, I could see it's worth paying for.
I love finding apps which come up with a clever solution for a nagging problem.
This is one of them. Love it!

  • What I needed!

    Love. Love. Love!
It’s just what I needed: a simple app which stores my URLs across all devices. 👌 Simple idea done well.

My problem = too many tabs in my browser as I want to save them but
    (1) they get “buried” because they are difficult to search;
    (2) they don’t need to be bookmarked because they are just waiting to be read/viewed; and
    (3) they slow down my web experience. :/

    My solution = Abyss.
On all devices I simply use the share feature of safari and “Save to Abyss”. It saves the URL to Abyss for later.

    Love. Love. Love.
    Worth paying for!!!

  • Refreshingly simple

Great app. Simple, fast, reliable. Love that it doesn't rely on a 3rd party for syncing.

  • Just what I was looking for

Abyss is a great little 'Read it later' app. It does one thing and does it perfectly. Also it can sync with it's iOS counterpart all via iCloud, so no reliance on a third party service.
