  • RPG Comfort Food

This is a fun old-fashioned RPG that you should be able to knock out in 6-8 hours. It’s free, it’s fun, and it’s worth your time.

The game is straightforward - you’re a hero who has to go get the mcguffins and then beat up the big bad threatening the kingdom. Get exp, level up, get slightly better gear over and over, and so on. It’s simple and it works. The writing in the game is light and funny, both while talking with NPCs (and wells!) in towns and while reading combat text in battles. My only real complaint is that enemies can feel like damage sponges, but that’s a nit pick when the game nails 8-bit RPG fun so well.

I kept waiting for this game to rook me by luring me in with a fun free title and then sucker punching me with in-app purchases, but it never happens. It’s remarkable that the dev put up this game for free, and if you like old school RPGs like Dragons Quest, you’ll enjoy this game.

  • Dragon Quest 1 Again!

There’s something so charming about how simple Dragon Quest 1 was, and this nails it pretty well. I like that the battle text is more than just “hit for X damage” etc., and have enjoyed some of the extra lines you get from talking to npcs more than once. There are some minor-ish issues, like the notch on iPhone X+ phones covering up some UI elements, not being able to turn down the volume for the music (can only turn it off entirely), and the on screen dpad not being great.

  • Back to my nes days

Not a lot of depth in story or character build, but it’s fun for a simple old school RPG style game. The quest progression is a bit confusing and I wasn’t always sure what to do, but figured it out eventually by exploring. A map would be nice. Doesn’t even need to show your location, just something to show where towns/towers are located in the world. Overall it was enjoyable and loved the no ads thing. You don’t see that much. Thanks for making it!

  • Fun but with some issues

I think this game is fun. I’ve put about two hours into the game and feel that the story is good. The overall gameplay can definitely be improved.

Not being able to see the enemies health is bad design and just plain annoying because at that point it’s just luck to see if you could kill any new enemy encounters. I can meet a new enemy while having the best current items, crit them multiple times, and somehow still lose the fight? How many hours of grinding do I have to do?

It’s VERY grind heavy. You most certainly need to have the most powerful equipment from each town to basically progress.

The chances of running away I feel are super slim. Maybe it’s just my luck, but why do I have to constantly die to try to run away.

Also, maybe slight minor quality of life improvement would be to increase the player speed overall. Feels much needed with the constant grinding and exploring.

  • Classic NES vibe

I love, love, love this title. Scratched the FF and DQ itch for sure. It’s like a time machine to a simpler time where rpgs kicked your butt but kept you coming back.
  • Would be great, but I can’t get far

Hey, so I’ve now been like searching all the walls, looking for a secret way to move forward, but I seem to be stuck? The last quest thing I did was talk to the wizard, but my quest log still says “the king has told you to talk to the wizard.” So I’ve been searching everywhere I can reach, 2 caves (although one leads out and then into another one), both towns, everywhere, but I can’t seem to progress. And I tried to look up a walkthrough but they all end there. Is this just a beta version of the game, or am I missing something?

  • HIGHLY recommend this for RPG-adventure lovers

I have never written a review for a game before, but I thought this definitely deserved my thoughts.

The writing is fantastic, I’m a sucker for funny dialogue and the story is simpler and makes sense unlike other RPGs I’ve played that have a big history/plot line with a complex array of characters and places, etc.

The gameplay mechanics make sense and the battles gradually get harder the same time as you get stronger. Though, my one suggestion is for a health bar on enemies so I can see my process. The boss fights feel like forever, like an endurance race to see how long I can stretch my health.

Had a hard time putting this one down! Anyone who likes 2D classic RPG games should give this one a go.

  • No ads, no mtx

Doesn’t have to be perfect so long as they’re not messing with me trying to get mtx.

    Five stars.
  • Fun!

It’s a cute retro indie game. I just wish that the quest bar in the menu updated more frequently instead to show what specifically you’re meant to do, & that the characters names appeared above their text when you spoke to them.
  • Having a lot of fun

I haven’t gotten too far yet, but it’s a lot of fun for a mobile game. No ads, no microtransactions. Something I like is that it’s not too easy, although I feel it could be balanced just a little better. I think the spells are a little too weak for the mp costs to be worth using, so for most battles magic isn’t worth it. So a lot of fights mostly consist of mashing attack. Another more minor complaint is that the splash screens should be able to be skipped by tapping. Or at least tapping should make them pass by faster. Nonetheless if you like retro RPGs, I recommend this. The music is pretty catchy as well, and the exploration is fun.

PS: I see the bits of EarthBound inspiration in here! I love it. Also, that skeleton enemy referencing Papyrus made me lose it.
