Really Like It, But…

A couple things:
1. Please allow the ability to swipe left and right to open different files, instead of having to exit each one and go into the next.
2. When I navigate to a new folder, the “loading” wheel turns at the top for a couple seconds, which is fine, but the entire window shifts up when it’s done. This is annoying because I frequently am navigating thru folders quickly, and I tap another folder and right when I tap, the window shifts up and the folder *under* the one I tapped is opened. Is there maybe a way to put the “loading” wheel toward the side or maybe just in the center of the screen on top of everything so that the folders/files don’t shift?

Other than that, the app is great! 4 stars right now, but when these two get fixed, 5 stars!!

Can’t access folders

Could be good, but it’s created a duplicate of a folder and won’t let me access either the original or the duplicate. The folder is fine on the Mac and website, just the iOS app with the problem. If this is fixed it would have more stars.

Response from developer

Hi! Please report this to us via the in-app 'Report a problem' option, so we can further investigate. Make sure to let us know if you receive any errors when trying to open/delete either of these folders. Thank you in advance.

It’s ok

I can’t be more generous. As a whole, this is just ‘ok’
I couldn’t decide between 2 and 3 stars, but ultimately settled on 3 as it is just ‘ok’.
It just seems barebones. 500gb and I use about 10 because uploading seems like a pain…

Almost perfect but

A few things that can be improved. First, in the photos tab, let users upload pictures individually instead of only allowing backup. Also it be great if pictures were uploaded as they are, instead it uploads the original and the modified version which takes up more space.

Still needs basic features

Can’t pause photo backups once started and still can’t access files backed up from my computer.

An option to switch account!

Hi Proton community, I would appreciate an option for switching accounts right from the app as people with multiple accounts need it! I would definitely sign up for lite package if the storage space was at least 30GB. 20GB for £0.99 a month is not enough!

Missing some key features

The main one is an inability for me to upload to Proton Drive from the Files app. Dropbox supported this but Proton seems not to. I can download things from Proton into Files, but not send things the other way.

Response from developer

Hi! You can indeed upload to Proton Drive via the Files app too. To achieve this, follow these steps: 1. Locate the file you wish to upload 2. Click on the Share button → select Save to Files 3. Locate the Proton Drive entry under Browse 4. Click on Proton Drive and then click on the Save button located in the top right corner. Thank you for your 4-star review!

So far so good

It acts like you'd expect; I've not come across any bugs. Anyone that wants a not self-hosted yet still privacy respecting alternative to Google Drive would be happy with this, and I recommend people try it if they're on the edge of getting it or not. Proton's a good company too, so paying for this supports a good cause.

One feature that would be nice, however, is to allow file compression on/pre upload. Matrix should have a lossless, stealable compression algorithm.

And I had one bug that resolved itself within 10 minutes of installing the app: being unable to save images/files from iOS.

Anyways, I'm glad to see Proton's trying to make somewhat of an ecosystem. If I get money to spare I plan to support them. I can't wait to see the Proton computer and Proton car next (have to beat Apple to the iCar).

Worked until endless crashing

Seriously? I paid all this money for a year premium for all services thinking this is better than Microsoft and after working ok and taking forever to work on 65k photos to backup, it was down to the last 1k and started over ? Meaning I had all the photos just the count reset and then it stopped working before last weeks update. Just starts, shows 3 weeks ago photos, says loading and crashes out. Restarting phone, app, clearing cache does nothing. iPhone 13 Pro Max 1 tb. With 500gb free so it’s not my memory. At least its encrypted although I can’t even load to view since it just quits out.

That doesn't sound right! Please report this to us via the in-app 'Report a bug' option and make sure to include your app logs, so we can look into it. Thank you in advance.

Slow and Half-Baked

Proton Drive is great from a security perspective, but as per usual, Proton releases incomplete products that are missing basic features and run poorly. Proton Drive has been out for a while now, and I can still only upload ONE FILE at a time. Is this some kind of joke? Additionally, the speed of upload/download is incredibly slow.

Oh and I almost forgot to mention - uploads have recently been failing all the time. The app has almost become unusable.

It seems like Proton just has a couple devs who work on all the mobile stuff, and they end up neglecting certain apps/devices for months or years on end with zero progress because they are caught up with other things. Either that, or all the employees have 100 committee meetings before they change anything. Either way, as a Proton user for multiple years, I’m very disappointed in this app. Do better.

Thank you for your feedback! The current limit on the number of files you can upload simultaneously is 10 and we're working on increasing it in future. In the meantime, however, you can upload more than 10 files via the Files app (opt to 'Save to Files' and browse for Proton Drive in the offered Locations). Please report the failed uploads and the issue you are experiencing with speed via the in-app 'Report a bug' option, so we can further investigate. Thank you in advance.
