Best Sports Community App

Super-user friendly app. Great App Support as well. Literally downloaded the app and was able to find a pick-up game 2 miles away from my condo same day. There were also several other pick up games within a 10 mile radius. Great choice of field and skill levels.
My first run was with Base Athletics— Host was attentive and friendly. The facility was clean and equipped with a plethora of pennys and balls. The Players were of all competitive skill levels. Will be integrating GoodRec in my daily workout!!!

Hey Martin! This is the best news, nothing beats a great game and more if that is close. We love Base Athletics as one of our new fields. We're glad you're joining our community of players that is growing around it. Plus we feel you, games are also the way we stay fit, hands down the best way to do so. Thank you so much for sharing.

Overbooked - Didnt even bother finishing the game

Apparently booked 22 people for a 20 person booking according to the body count at the court - no refs or anyone who worked there to figure out who was who and organize the games, therefore the games just devolved into full court 1 on 1, and 35 foot 3 pointers - didn't even both playing more than 3 games before I went home lol.

If you're telling people to pay for a product, it has to be upkept, or else it just devolves into, frankly something not worth paying for.

Also if you have 20 people, You HAVE to have refs, if you gave a ref that can call 5 seconds or can break up a fight, that's huge. No excuse for no refs.

Hey fklnj, thank you so much for your input. You are absolutely right and this is a role that the host should've played. We reviewed what happened at your match and made sure to address it with the person who should've been in charge. We changed the way we managed our hosts as leaders of the game and have brought the coverage rate up to 99%. The hosts control the quality of games when it comes to things starting on time, making sure to call attendance and gather everyone to explain rules very clearly. We will keep working so this is the case for every game and this doesn't happen again. What you describe is not the standard of the experience we hold ourselves accountable for and we'd love to make it up to you with a game for free on us and a refund for what you paid at this session. Reach out to customersupport@goodrec.com so we can make this happen.

Organized pick up games!

I always had trouble finding good pick up games, but not anymore with this app!

The games hosted via this app are always organized — Pinnies are provided, everyone shows up, nice field, good goals, starts on time. The support team are also there to make sure you will smoothly join the games.

This is the to-go app for finding soccer games in your area!

Hey おーせーよー , we feel you because we had it to. The idea behind the app was born from our own team's need to find a great community to play with as internationals in a new city. We thought we should all be able to play as adults like we did as kids, with no hassle and no commitment. We try to make them great games that we as players would enjoy. Thank you for sharing your journey on the app! It means the world to us.

NYC Volleyball is Awful - Go somewhere else

Where do I even start? The quality of open plays is abysmal - imagine going to an “advanced” session just to find out that not even half of the players can hit a ball over the net. There is no policing, so multiple times I’ve just left the game because it was a WASTE OF TIME. The people running NY volleyball are literally in a different country, so there’s a massive disconnect and complete sense of apathy. The worst example of this is when they organized a 50+ person tournament and DIDN’T RESERVE THE COURTS. Literally had 50+ people from all across tri-state come to this place just to turn them all away at the door, and this was after I SPECIFICALLY MESSAGED TO ASK IF THE TOURNAMENT WAS STILL HAPPENING. Regardless of what happened behind the scenes, this shows that nobody bothered to call and confirm courts the day before a massive tourney. The worst part is the amount they offered as consolation: $50 in app credit PER TEAM. Yep, just about $7 per person for wasting countless hours of time, when a typical session is $23. Absolutely disgusting. Other cities might have it better, but if you’re in NYC then do yourself a favor and play volleyball somewhere else. These people don’t deserve a single cent.

Hey Dabeast144, this is so tough to read especially because you're right on so many points. It was unacceptable what happened in this NYC tournament. It was a massive miscommunication and we've since completely changed the way we confirm with courts about rentals. We definitely hear you and understand how frustrating this experience was. We have also worked on a new strategy to better allocate players in the right level of play, where hosts and players provide feedback that is shared with users who must adjust the level they are signing up to. We agree this compensation wasn't fair and would love to be able to offer a better experience. We would like to get in touch with you in order to get to the bottom of this and make things right. Would you mind sharing your email? Alternatively, please email us at customersupport@goodrec.com. We look forward to hearing from you!

A burden on my local soccer community. Shady outsiders.

Used to be cool. Quality dropped for who the opponents are with the price going way up. 15 min for 50 min. Have had last minute cancellations within 20 min of start time and the money is stuck as “credit” and I was already there and still saw the field get used in a shady way. They also lie about how many players are in I have had several times where I pay and join a session because it looks almost full and then once I join the true number is lower than what was there before. They took over our my cities local pick up groups with ads of paid pickup and got kicked out of the Facebook groups with rule changes made to keep just play out. I can back all this up not just being tilted in writing a review. All in all I have had fun but there is a lot of shady stuff when sports are a beautiful game and it could be way simplified.

Hey Quentin, we really appreciate you sharing this journey. We understand how these issues may seem and we'd love to be super transparent, sharing and filling you in on a little behind the scenes to understand what has been done and why this happens. Regarding the negative experience with our shortest game format that goes for 60 minutes, we realized many delays by the facility or players who are late could were eating into the playing time and many were experiencing shorter games. In order to fix this we've edited the times games are posted on the app and worked together with our hosts to make sure the operation is smooth and starting on time with players who are there and this way make the most out of the game and make sure all players get the time they signed up for and deserve. When it comes to the spots that are shown on the app, we know it is the absolute worst to look forward to a game all day and then to have players drop last minute. We are working on ways of limiting this as much as possible and also making it so your app is always showing the correct number of people. We want more than anything for every game to be full and for you to always have a great experience Our goal is to continue simplifying the beautiful game and make it accessible for anyone, anytime, anywhere. Your feedback allows us to come closer to our goal and becauase of this we would love to have you back for a game, on us! We'd want to send you a PROMO CODE you can apply at check out to get any game for free no matter the cost, this way you can get the true GoodRec experience you deserve.

They don’t care about players

This was a great app for a while until not once, but twice without warning it suddenly shut down the volleyball drop ins in Denver CO. I’ve been a host since May and worked really hard to create a community of people who played several times a week and have become friends, and had no prior knowledge of them shutting down and had to field dozens of phone calls and text messages from people who were upset. This is not how you do business. They also only hire girls who live in South America because they can pay them less than Americans but they never have any employees working in America or showing up to the games which I think is very unprofessional. You need to have your employees showing up to the games not just spamming people on social media. They also don’t pay the hosts for their time they just give them a free game.

Hey Bseal, we are very sorry you had to go through this. As we spoke together, we should've done a better job communicating to the our hosts and players that our sessions in Denver, specifically for Volleyball would come to a stop while we went through a proper restructuring to bring better quality. This was all due to the disconnect we realized we had with the games on the ground and we wanted to do better for our community. We know it wasn't fair for you to face these questions, we encouraged players to contact us directly through our different email and in-app channels. Our team has grown to include old hosts who know the local community and what the best experience looks like and from a diversity of backgrounds and nationalities that reflect our player community. Feedback like this is what has allowed us to grow in all these areas and allows us to deliver a better experience. We hope we can soon come back to Denver with the true great experience you deserve and we can honor all the help you've offered us. Thank you for all you've done.

I’m locked out of my account

So today I got a new phone I try to log into my account and I’ve forgot my password so when I try to reset my password I put my email, they couldn’t verify my account or recognize my email. I had $1 credit in my account now I can’t log in. Is there anyone can help me 😭?

Poor experiences - poor communication - unfortunate circumstances

This app was extremely promising when I first downloaded it, and I was able to play some great sessions with great players. However, on multiple occasions I would go to fields/facilities expecting a full session, and the facilities would be closed and/or not expecting us.

In every instance that this has occurred, I have never received a refund or any type of updates from “just play”, and the hosts have limited sightline, if any at all, in regards to how to best move forward, or why we couldn’t access the field.

Getting answers is extremely difficult and, as you can imagine, extremely frustrating, considering 16 people have traveled to a field expecting to play, all to be left standing outside of the facility.

Hey Madi, we are very sorry to hear about your experience at these sessions. We realized players were running into issues due to miscommunications with the facilities and given this we completely restructured our relationship with the fields to make sure and bring the cancellation down by more than 60% and eliminate 95% of all booking errors as of this year. We will continue working on these but we know these situations might still come up and be out of our control if a facility double book us, but to make sure we can be there to support users through any situation we have added a series of channels for players to reach our support team that is focused on making sure all users get the true GoodRec Experience. You can find us in the app's direct messages as Player Support, through our email customersupport@goodrec.com and you can message any game chat and hear from us live. We would love to have you back for a game, on us so you can see the implemented changes! We'd want to send you a PROMO CODE you can apply at check out to get any game for free no matter the cost, this way you can get the true GoodRec experience you deserve.

Banned

I went to the gym with my boyfriend in Bedstuy to watch him play. As a visitor the staff yelled at me and was extremely harsh when I was in no way a threat to her or the facility. They say I can’t stay with my dog. No problem I left. But then they said he couldn’t play.

The service was overall very horrible. They were very unclear as to the reason why he was not allowed to play when he was in fact asked to be the host. From that encounter I left so that my boyfriend could play since we traveled. The lady threatened to call the cops while noting they had a great relationship when really I was just trying to understand why he could no longer play. Now Just Play has banned him without reason. Hes booked the app over 20 times in four months with no issues. Bad experience (referring to NY)

Response from developer

Hey Torridanielle, we are very sorry you had this encounter with the staff at the venue. Unfortunately we have to follow the facility's rules regarding visitors, guests and pets. We should do a better job at sharing each venue's policies to avoid these miscommunications, we are happy we were able to speak directly to you and your boyfriend to understand what happened and share our point of view and our duty as an intermediary of the field and you as a player. We hope we can move forward making sure this doesn't ever happen again.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE in Las Vegas

Signed up for two people for a volleyball game. 14 people signed up on the app so I was expecting a good turnout. Showed up and only 7 people came, which isn’t the app/team fault. Where it went wrong was the Host, Jorge Saucedo, did not show up to the game at all for the ENTIRE night. We had no liaison and no one to talk to to ask questions as to what will happen now since only half the people showed up. I ended up talking to the facility people to ask how we could solve it, but they couldn’t do anything about it because the Host, Jorge, wasn’t there.

This happened June 30. I’ve been following up with Jorge still to this day and he only responded once. He did apologize, but left me on seen and hasn’t done anything about it.

Horrible customer service and experience. It was my first time using the app and I will never use it again

Hey Calvin, We are very sorry to hear about this experience, it is definitely not to the standard we commit to at GoodRec. We try to remind players to remove their spot if they won't be able to make it! and agree that the host should always be there to mediate and mitigate a situation like this. We would love to refund you for the game and make it up to you beyond this. Let us know if there is a preferred email we could reach out to or alternatively you can also find us at customersupport@goodrec.com.
