Needs work

This app, generally, doesn’t feel like a native iOS app built by apple. Nevermind the awful icon - the UI is terribly confusing. There aren’t enough languages and it doesn’t fit in with the design language of any other app.

I’m glad they are Atleast going after google, but this isn’t quite enough to hold a torch to it

Needs improved usability and translations

Some things aren’t very obvious how to do in the app. For example, everyone saying there’s no way to swap the langurs: there is, it’s just not remotely obvious. When the text box is selected there will be a small circular indicator next to the language that you’re translating from, and to switch just tap the other language.

This works and is clean from a UI standpoint, but from a UX standpoint it’s not clear to users (most of whom are coming from Google Translate and expecting a similar UX).

Useless

It’s amazing to me that a company so dedicated to ensure all the little details are taken care of, such as Apple, would allow such a bad version of a translation app to be part of the Apple apps. Not only is it impossible to copy and paste text, but the translation is just plain bad. It’s like going back to Google translator back in 2006 when it was considered great for survival, but incredibly subpar for any type of correct translation. It’s incredible to think that the reason we don’t have a calculator app for the iPad is because they haven’t come up with a “transformational and elegant” version of it that Apple deems worthy of bearing the Apple name for the iPad, yet Apple is totally fine with releasing a mediocre version of a translator app.

It needs more languages

This is a great and accurate translator app and I am glad that Apple finally got on board in creating one, but it needs more languages including language variations. In case you're not aware - Spanish (Spain) is NOT the same as Spanish (Mexico) and can often differentiate depending on what the translation is. Please get up to date in regards to this and other similar issues plus the confusing difference between how the app works when On-Device mode is “on” and/or “off”. As I mentioned before; Translate is a great, necessary, and needed addition to Apple’s many apps and has amazing potential but until these mentioned and other bugs within the app are fixed then it will never be able to compete with and/or let alone be on the same level as/with Google Translate. Thank you tremendously in advance!

Major Oversight, In Spite of Customer Feedback

Apple has put some interesting and useful features into this app, and I do use it from time to time for that reason. I would prefer to use it every time, but unlike nearly every other translation utility available, there is no ability to directly swap the input and output languages. The user is forced to use four clicks to change the individual languages, which becomes so tedious when looking up more than one word as to make the app unusable.
Even more insulting, Apple has removed the ability to provide feedback for this app from their feedback page, so negative reviews on the App Store are the only option left.
