  • The robotic voice will give you a headache

The voice is robotic and one of the worst I’ve tested. I wanted to use it as a PDF reader. I’ve found NaturalReader, great voice much smoother and free. That’s the app to choose!

You are mischaracterizing my app. You are not limited to one robotic voice. You can choose from any of the voices that are already available on your iOS device (of which there are many) with the option to download more in settings. Those voices are unlimited and free. Additionally, if you choose, you can purchase a premium subscription which gives you access to more high quality voices. The competing app you mentioned imposes a time limit unless you pay. That’s not free.
  • Top resource

Very helpful in reading lots of materials, has made study and work easier. Interface is easy to work with and like the drag and drop feature when uploading file. Would be nice to have a mobile friendly version as well - if possible.

There is an iOS version of the app. All of your content will be available there via iCloud sync.
  • Beware of Extra Charges with This App's Premium Plan!

I started out really satisfied with the textbooks for my final exams using this app. But then, after already paying for an expensive premium plan, I was blindsided by a message stating I had exceeded the monthly character limit and needed to fork over another $49.99 to continue using the premium voice. This is ridiculous! If you're a heavy reader, I definitely do not recommend this app. They seem to penalize you for using their service too much.

Hello. Thanks for the feedback. FYI, our character limit is far more generous than competitors, like Speechify which give you less than half as much. Also, I should mention, all of the voices in the Free category are unlimited (which corresponds to any voice you have installed on your Mac).
  • Easy to use, and very accurate.

Amazing app as it has a lot of customisable settings for the reader, and a relatively clear voice (non premium).
  • A very helpful app and developer!

I’m using the app to help me learn French and find (at least) one voice to be very suitable with natural sounding intonation. It's an excellent feature to be able to slow down the reading speed.

However, the word tracking wasn’t keeping up with the voice when reading documents scanned to PDFs. I found the word tracking distracting in any case. I contacted Bret, the developer, and received a swift response asking for details. Just a couple of days later Bret added an option to disable real-time word highlighting. (Press the button with the 3 horizontal dots. You should see an option to toggle word highlighting on or off.) Well done!

I very much like that I can store documents in folders, I can use it on both my Mac and iPad and a subscription doesn’t cost an arm and a leg as with some TTS readers.

  • Saving my life

I am not a great reader and I have to take my time for a college course. This is used to help as a lecture type reading and I can take notes. I just have to figure how to slow it down a bit because I am older returning to school after over 30 years. LOL but I will get the hang of this. Thank you for creating something I could use without asking my children for help!!! lol

Hello. Thanks for the feedback! There is a button on the bottom bar of the pdf reader for controlling the voice speed. It looks like a speedometer.
