Version History of Link HUB Lock Screen Widgets

2.2

October 17, 2022

Thank you so much for welcoming Link HUB 2 with such amazing warmth, and special thanks to the team at MacStories for featuring the app and helping thousands of people discovering the power of links with Link HUB! This update adds the ability to share QR codes of your URLs: tap and hold on a link and select "Share QR code" to generate a 300x300 image and share it. There are also a couple new keyboard shortcuts: CMD+S saves the link you're editing or adding, and Esc cancels. In previous versions you could already add links with CMD+N, open additional dashboards with CMD+ALT+N and navigate your collection of links with the arrow keys, launching them by hitting the Spacebar, but now the interaction is even quicker with the new key combinations. Thanks again to Jay for the great ideas! If you enjoy using Link HUB, a 5 star review would mean the world to me and to other Users searching for the perfect Lock screen app... Ciao e grazie! –Cesare

Link HUB 2 is here with Lock Screen Widgets for iOS 16, to let you unlock a level of speed and productivity unimaginable before! Just a few examples of what you can do directly from your iPhone’s lock screen with Link HUB’s superpowers: - Launch automations from Shortcuts… basically Link HUB is the shortcut to your Shortcuts’ shortcuts ;) - Start a FaceTime call to your special someone - Jump directly into a conversation in Messages - Open any app you want, and in some of them – with the right URL – navigate to specific sections - Open any website With lock-screen widgets, the apps and Shortcuts you rely upon the most are only one tap away, in any moment; and all formats of lock-screen widgets are supported, so you can customize your iPhone to serve exactly your needs! But widgets aren't only on your lock-screen... you can now add as many super-high density widgets as you like on your home screens! While the small widget is a big convenient button for just one link, a medium widget can contain up to 8 links, a large one 16 and the extra-large widget on iPads makes 32 links available to you... that's double of what most alternatives offer! This version also includes a redesigned, clean and easy to use screen to add and edit links, the ability to select custom icons for every link, and improved speed and reliability. I hope you'll love Link HUB 2.0! If you do, please take the time to leave a 5 star review (it helps a lot indie developers like myself!), recommend the app to a friend and consider subscribing to Link HUB Pro, to keep great updates like this one coming!

Link HUB 1.5 is ready for iOS 14 and iPadOS 14, but there's more: Link HUB now works on macOS too! Download Link HUB on the Mac App Store for free and your links will automatically sync between all your devices, via iCloud; you can also edit specific links to only appear on your Mac, your iPhone, your iPad or even on all your mobile devices but not on the Mac. Oh, and if you're a Link HUB Pro User on iOS - and you should - you're already a Pro on the Mac too! I'm very happy that Link HUB is now on all your devices, and I hope you'll love it; if you do, please tell your friends and give it 5 stars in the App Store, it helps so much Indie developers like myself! This is the biggest update to Link HUB yet, and actually the feature the app was built for from the beginning: you can now use NFC tags to trigger the launch of URLs you saved in Link HUB. This enables all kinds of automations: Link HUB can write cheap NFC tags for you, to associate them to specific links (one for sending an SMS, another to trigger a Shortcut automation, and so on...).  After Link HUB writes a tag with the specific informations it needs to recognise it later (and this procedure is very easy and completely automatic!), scanning it from inside the app will immediately launch the link; even better, tag reading even works when the app is not running, if your iPhone supports background NFC reading: for the latest iPhone models you'll receive a notification and, as soon as you'll tap it, your link will be immediately launched. NFC tag support is a really cool feature, implemented for the easiest and fastest usage possible, and requires the inexpensive Link HUB Pro subscription (and, obviously, some writable NFC tags). Please read the Frequently Asked Questions inside the app's Settings: I provide some human-understandable and not-too-nerdy informations to get you started with NFC... I really hope you'll love using NFC tags as much as I do! Please, don't hesitate to contact me at support@cdf1982.com and, if you like the app, please subscribe and leave a 5 star review! Ciao! -Cesare

You can now manually reorder Links instead of keeping them in strict alphabetical order: long-tap a Link and move it around to rearrange the cells to your preference. If you like Link HUB, please consider supporting its development with a subscription and a 5 star review, and don't hesitate getting in touch at support@cdf1982.com if you need anything. -Cesare

By default, Link HUB launches Safari when you tap a website link, but now you can optionally set a preference to show http and https links inside an in-app browser. Thank you for the suggestion, Matt! If you like the app, please consider supporting its development with a subscription and a 5 star review, and don't hesitate getting in touch at support@cdf1982.com if you need anything. -Cesare

Thank you for the warm welcome you reserved to Link HUB! This version fixes a minor bug and an embarrassing typo (that feeling when your launch screen, literally the first thing you show the world, has a typing error in it...) and introduces the ability to duplicate Links from the menu that appears when you long-tap on a link. Some Users experienced difficulties activating the subscription for version 1.0 due, most likely, to propagation delays. Now everything should work properly, but please let me know if you have issues with this at support@cdf1982.com. Ciao! -Cesare

Description of Link HUB Lock Screen Widgets

Links are powerful: they open websites, allow to launch apps and Shortcuts, call friends and trigger any kind of automation. If something has a URL, Link HUB can give you a button, widget or lock-screen widget to launch it at the speed of light: just set a name, paste a valid address, pick an icon and color and you're done! Link HUB is your dashboard to quickly launch links on iPhone, iPad and Mac: visit websites, run specific Shortcuts, deep-link into apps, execute web-based automations, open pages you visit often in Safari instead of native apps such as YouTube, Instagram of Facebook... Link HUB widgets are super-high density: while the small widget is a big convenient button for just one link, a medium widget can contain up to 8 links, a large one 16 and the extra-large widget on iPads makes 32 links available to you... that's double of what most alternatives offer! And with lock-screen widgets, the apps and Shortcuts you rely upon the most are only one tap away, in any moment. Unlock a level of speed and productivity that couldn't even be imagined before! The only requirement is for you to have important links, automations, apps and web hooks you want to access quickly and to know their specific URLs: with infinite websites and apps providing a URL scheme out there, Link HUB cannot provide a list for you to pick from, and lets you type in anything you want instead. Searching for URL schemes online is usually pretty effective, and most web-services automations like IFTTT or Zapier let you copy fully functional URLs and web hook links. You can also configure Link HUB for people you love who are less familiar with technology than yourself, and give them a single place, with easy to tap buttons, to execute multiple operations, including non-trivial ones. Another cool feature of Link HUB is the ability to open a specific URL when you interact with a NFC tag that the app previously encoded, allowing any kind of automation you can imagine. You can find out more informations about this amazing capability in the Link HUB NFC Frequently Asked Questions available inside the app's Preferences. Please be advised that NFC support is currently available only on iPhones, due to the need of hardware not included in Macs and iPads. Finally, and getting even nerdier, not only can Link HUB launch your URLs, but it can also perform HTTP GET calls... great for executing home automations such as triggering an Ethernet relay that opens a gate! Link HUB is a modern macOS, iOS and iPad OS app free to use for up to 4 links. Thanks to iCloud, your links sync automatically between devices while staying 100% private. And you can decide that some links must be visible only on specific devices! Link HUB is secure: no analytics or prying access to your data, this indie app's sustainability and future development come exclusively from an optional and very inexpensive subscription, when you decide you want unlimited buttons and NFC support; and the single small annual fee includes all your devices: iOS, Macs and iPadOS.

  • Misleading - Waste of money

App does not allow you to write to even 1 NFC tag to try unless paid for. So I updated to Pro thinking it would offer me a certain type of “GET URL” option to write, but it does not. All the writing features which was my main reason to use this app do not offer anything more than what all the other FREE apps do. Was a waste of money for me.

Hello, I am deeply sorry you had a poor experience with my app and that the kind of option you wanted was not among those supported. Please, contact me at support@cdf1982.com and I will send you instructions to get a refund for your purchase! My best, Cesare - Update: Happy I could help you in getting the refund, I strive to make people happy with my apps and if it was not for you, it wasn't fair for you to pay. Ciao!
  • Requires subscription

It’s not possible to actually purchase the app; you have to keep paying for it (a detail that is conveniently omitted from the in-app payment section). That’s not reasonable, since many developers and companies do quite well by the one-time-purchase model. Charging for updates is fine, but software tools are meant to be owned. Demanding continual payment is greedy.

    Developer Response

Hi and thank you for trying Link HUB. Not liking subscription is certainly a legitimate personal opinion (another, mine, is believing that the expectation of people working without ongoing remuneration is actually greedy), but you're very wrong when you say the app hides that it offers a subscription: Link HUB is free for up to 4 links, as clearly stated in the App Store description; then, the upgrade screen that Users access by tapping "Link HUB Subscription" has the title "Subscribe to Pro", the button says "4,99 $ 1 year" (very greedy indeed for a niche app kept updated that works on iOS, iPad and Mac and has cloud sync) and below there's a detailed, plain English explanation of how the subscription works (renewal deadline, and even a link for canceling it). How you could say the fact the app offers (NOT requires) a subscription is deceitfully hidden baffles me. One thing is not to like subscriptions, which a lot of people do but app developers eat every day too, not once in their lifetime, the other is accusing someone to hide things because you just didn't read. I'm honestly happy to have only people that appreciate this reality of app development sustainability use my apps, but thank you for trying Link HUB nevertheless. Ciao from Italy, Cesare
  • Wonderful for college & Zoom!!!!

During COVID-19, I was tryng to find something that could stay on my desktop and I could access links quickly. I couldn't be any more happier with this. It would be nice if this could sync with icloud/back up services. Thanks for such a nifty app!
